The culprit is unmasked! If one has his preferences set to show "no images" or only "white-listed images" then the big banner will not be visible, tis true. But this section is a quote box with the header "Expired Items Wrote:" (which may serve as a hint that the items are indeed expired).

So i've read in another thread that the 40gc link is glitched. And wasn't intented to still be granting. So exploiting the glitch is against TOS. :/
