"No, you're right," Kitty said, standing up from her seat. "Things are pretty dead. I'll take over and you and Alex can go out." Any good employer would have squashed the idea of Jess leaving for the sake of romance, but Kitty saw it as a way of paying her back for all the help she'd received over the past few weeks. She deserved her time alone.
Kitty looked back at Sam and just smiled. He could do as he liked. She, however, was taking the register. "Just do me a favor and take a spare key with you, and lock up when you come home. I might go to bed early tonight..."

Jess gave Samson another look before nodding to Kitty. She came forward and gave her a big hug. "Thanks Kitty...." She gave her a big smile. Her friend didnt know how badly she needed this.
Since this disaster, Jess had put everything aside including some classes, to help her friend out. Though was starting to stress out since it was catching up to her. Not saying she wouldnt do it a thousand times over, it was just reality was starting to settle in again, and she needed her release from the world to help her make sense of it again.
"I'll be sure not to take terrible long...You call me if anything..." She glanced at Samson but furrowed her brow. "Just...call me...ok?" She smiled, giving her one more hug before heading out to smile at Alex.
"How about a late lunch instead?" She smiled brightly.

Alex grinned. "Let me grab my coat, and we're out of here." And just like that, Alex swept her out of the book store leaving Kitty sitting on the counter to overlook the shop.
Kitty greeted the single person walking through the shelves. But really, her thoughts were on Sam. She wasn't sure what he would do. He had been left alone in a room full of antiques and irreplaceables, but more importantly, with the book that could undo everything sitting near him. If that book was still where she'd left it the next time she went back there, she would have faith in Sam. If it was gone with him, then she wouldn't waste any more energy. A book worth thousands upon thousands... and a man worth only as much as his word. Kitty hoped one would outdo the other.

Sam had stayed pretty much silent as she left, leaving him alone with his thoughts.
And even though so many things ran thorugh his busting head, even thoughts pertaining to the book laying near him, all of them seemed to be pushed away in an instant. And he smiled. A slight, ever so faint smile, but it was there.
He stood, though felt a bit light headed, found his balance and headed out to the main shop.
He didnt really say anything but there was still that same smile on his face as he walked right past kitty, and on out the door without a word.
A few moments passed and he re entered, his hat off, hair tussled and carrying his jacket, changing his look entirely. He pretended to scan the shelves for a minute, as if never being there before.
Though he kept glancing Kitty's way, smiling a bit shyly before finally picking up a small book from the shelves and making his way to the counter. "Hi..." He smiled, placing the book in front of her. "I'd like to purchase this book..." He smiled extremely casually at her, reaching into his pocket to pull out a wallet, fishing out a couple of credits that he could scrape up. It was a rather random title, somehting frilly looking really he htought but it didnt really matter.
"...I'm sorry if this sounds forward....but you are very beautiful.... My Name's Samson. And I'd like to get to know you better....maybe take you out sometime...that is...if you're boyfriend doesnt mind..." He shrugged a little pathetically, though glanced up for her reaction, a tiny gleam glinting in his eye.

Kitty had watched him leave without a word. She would have liked a good-bye, and not getting one made her heart sink a bit. Maybe that was it, and she'd never see him again...
But then to her surprise, Sam came right back in again. He seemed up to something, just looking at her in a shy way but never saying anything. Something told her to stay quiet, and soon he presented her with a novel. And he introduced himself. Kitty couldn't quite communicate just what it was she was feeling to him. Her heart was swelling, her breath kept catching in laughter that wouldn't come out. And there he was, bruised up Sam giving her compliments like they'd never met before.
"Well, I'm Kitty, and afraid you're mistaken. I don't have a boyfriend," she said, smiling so much that her cheeks hurt. His pathetic smile made the giddiness in her well up even more. "Tomorrow I'm free, Sam. And this?" she said, picking up the book. "Is quite awful. Wouldn't recommend it if you have any taste."
Her eyes shimmered a bit as she looked up at him. She didn't notice the other customer giving her and Sam an odd look, or knew how awkward this was to anyone else watching. It felt wonderful to her, and the moment was hers.

He smiled a goofy grin at her as he pocketed the credits. "You dont? And Huh..." He looked down at his hand as if carrying a planner. "It looks like I'm free...and even if I wasnt I'd make myself free...." His smile softened at her.
He looked down at the book and laughed a bit shrugging. "And maybe you can give me some advice on some good reading since you do seem to be the expert..." Her smile intoxicated him. Ecspecially with those soft brown eyes sparkling the way they were.
"So....would it be alright if I met you here tomorrow Miss Kitty?" He asked with a little tilt of his head, his eyes smiling just as much as his mouth if not more.

"Tomorrow, before three. That sounds like a date." Kitty leaned forward to kiss his bruised and swollen cheek. Even ion his state, he was still handsome to her. Everything looked like it would turn out for the best. He was Sam, himself, instead of some other persona. He was genuine and so lovely to be with that she couldn't help but wish that it was tomorrow already.

He blushed a bit and nodded, fighting the urge to kiss her back. He was going ot make himself take it slow, almost as a punishment. But he knew it'd be better if he did.
"It's a date then..." His voice was so gentle as he smiled, and reached out to touch her cheek, his hand running down to under her chin.
"...It was lovely meeting you Kitty..." His eyes were happy and distant as they met her lovely brown ones.

Little did he know that she was keeping herself in check, too. They were starting over, she kept telling herself. You don't know him, but now is your chance to find out. "And it was wonderful meeting you, Sam." The shop, their relationship, their feelings... everything had been renewed. Kitty felt it practically running along her skin as she sat there in the shop.

Sam looked down a bit, rubbing the back of his neck before turning to Leave. "I'll ...jsut talk to you tomorrow then..." He shrugged a bit shyly, giving her a small wave before slipping his coat on. It was getting colder nad colder it felt every day but for soem reason, he felt after today, at least on the inside, he'd be getting warmer....

----
The next day came. Kitty was exhausted and didn't want to work at all, but she was fortunate enough to have the say in everything. It was her shop, her rules... but how she wished she could afford to have the day off.
Kitty sat on the counter with a mug of tea. Her feet swung to the beat of the soft music playing overhead, and she sung to it under her breath. Sam would be coming soon, she said to herself. He was why all this was worth it.

And almost as if on que, Samson entered, wearing a pair of jeans and a plain tshirt under his wool jacket. He held a small handful of what looked like daiseys. "Goodmorning!" He practically sang as he gave ehr a gentlemanly bow. "And how are you this glorious morning??" The swelling had gone down yet he was adorned with quite the shiner...all thanks to Alex.

Kitty jumped a mile, and nearly right off the counter when he made his grand entrance. "Gosh, are you happy!" she exclaimed, holding her arms out to him for a hug. "And your face looks better... and you have flowers?" This was so different from the downtrodden Sam she saw the other day. What had happened?

She had happened. Along with a few other htings he wasnt about to get into right now... "Yes I have flowers...ecspecially for you." He met her embrace, nearly picking her off the ground. "And I'm happy just for the sake of being happy...isn't that enough of a reason?" He smirked, setting her back down.

She laughed and giggled as he picked her up. "But yesterday you were so sad! I want to know what happened!" Kitty's mind reeled with all the possibilities. Maybe he had an epiphany, or perhaps he had some great stroke of luck. Whatever the case was, Kitty felt herself waking up just from his cheery presence. "But hold that thought and thank you for the daises... let me go get a vase, alright? So they don't wilt."
Kitty kissed his cheek and bounced up the stairs to her apartment, getting a simple glass vase to bring back down. Already this visit was lifting her spirits, and he'd only been there for a few minutes.
