The feathers quickly caught fire and burned until they settled into ash, floating free from the ranger's fingers and settling somewhere on the basement floor.

As the last smolders faded, a boot ground down on what imagined remains were left.

Those same boots climbed the stairs, careful to keep a little more distance from the wall and rail so as not to catch her wings and trip. She remembered what clumbsiness she suffered a few month prior and so kept her wings pressed close. The gift had been for flying obviously and not walking around.

Pressing open the door, Jay entered the main room where Hanuvh and she had left the others.

Or at least she thought they had left them here. Now there was just Otiian.

"Where did the others go? Gather them if they are still present in the building," she asked, not caring that she had not seen him in the house when she had first arrived.

The merchant's eyes got round when he saw the wings protruding from her back and then shook his head. This woman was a Revenant without question now and she had given him an order. "Of course...I will find them." He then ventured forth to find whoever was left in the building.

Shutting the door behind her she paced until Otiian had found every last one of them that had been present earlier. In a half ring in front of her they stood, all with variations of the same look the merchant and Hanuvh had shown her, some more of fear, fewer other with hints of nervous excitement. She noticed they made sure to give her clearence, especially the the sides around her wings.

"I have unfortunate news to pass on," she started, trying to speak as she once did with regular townsfolk to avoid being pushed around as a just female ranger. "Hanuvh has been taken under the Swan's wing and has passed on. A new successor is to be chosen and I've been asked to name him or her. Hanuvh's quarters are to remain undisturbed while I see to his wishes. If I do find anything tampered with, that person better ask the Swan for blessings of a quick death." Cold eyes circled the lot of them as she was in no mood to argue this.

"For now, a proper burial is in order, both for Hanuvh and the sacrifice he had presented." Two of the men she directed to retrieve Hanuvh's body and have him laid out on the table. The two women she directed to both get one covering for the table and one for their former Lord as well as to remove the chairs from the room.

Then she turned to Otiian. "You can find a place to lay him to rest, right? I will need another for the man Hanuvh provided for sacrifice as well. You have your connections?"

"It will be taken care of withing two hours." Otiian said as he caught sight of one of the children peeking out of their hiding place. He beckoned the child close and gave them instructions in who to contact for a proper burial. After the youth was sent on his task Otiian shifted his gaze over the bodies of the dead and then to glance at the black wings on Galanmion. "Did he pass peacefully? I know it had always been a wish of his to meet the Swan before he passed."

"Good," Jay mumbled while watching the men return from the stairway with Hanuvh carried between them. She waited until they left the room before speaking to Otiian again.

"It was a quick parting. One that I could never hope for." Her eyes were unfocused until the two men who had carried Hanuvh up walked out of the dinning room. She quickly asked the other men to assist or comfort the women should they need it and to pay their respects before making a return trip to the basement and taking the other man to the kitchen.

Seeing a view of Hanuvh's body through the doorway made her gut sink and her wings press in again around her shoulders.

"Some things are never easy, no matter who it is," she commented aloud.

Otiaan's eyes had caught the fact that the Revenant's sleeves had blood on them yet it was clear the blood had not fallen from Lord Hanuvh's body. A small relief for some of them if they noticed. The other man however had ben soaked in blood. It wasn't the guard that they had planned to sacrifice either. That meant that a lot of things had changed while he was at his meeting. While observing things he put a arm around one of the ladies that was particularly shaken that was near him. "You couldn't be more correct Galanmion." The children would take it the worst. Hanuvh was very protective of them.

"So I saw tonight, in fact," Jay commented. "The rest know, but you were not present. An... aquaintence of mine accidentally caused a stir frightening a younger one. The rest could probably give what details they saw later." Already some were looking around at each other on that comment.

"No, I will not explain more about him," the Revenant stated, marking the topic off-limits.

When it was quiet long enough, the ranger turned to look at Otiian, "See to the others. The children, I shall see to. This cannot be hidden from them... if they haven't heard our words already."

Otiian nodded and then started to gather the rest of the group off to the side to give Galanmion some room. While some were upset at this turn of events the children would be much worse and the adults would have to be the ones to comfort them.

About to head up the stairs, a swing of her arm into her own view reminded her of the condition of her shirt. That would not do when speaking to the striplings about Hanuvh’s passing.

Jay turned back to quickly pass through the dinning room to the kitchen, averting her eyes from those in mourning. She slowed down when her eyes paused on the body that had been left in this room though.

"Prest" he'd called himself. There was nothing else to add. Family, home, job... all the information a mystery lost when his life was traded for hers. And yet…

She glanced back at the doorway that led to the dinning room.

Maybe it was the way Hanuvh had died. Or maybe it was because she had not a day to know the man who rested on the table beside the pots and ladles. She swallowed down the guilt that crept up as she stared at the hole in Prest's chest, guilt because she felt worse for the leader of the cult than this someone here.

She washed up her hands, splashing some on her face to help clear her mind, before hurrying back through the rooms to the basement for her coat to wear over her stained shirt. She undid the button at the back of the neck that opened up a place for the wings to go before sliding on the coat and going back upstairs to try and find the young ones.

---

Outside there was no one. Not on this side of the city at this time of the eve. Yet as she looked out the window of Hanuvh's study, her temporary quarters, weak tiny lights winked across the otherwise oblivious and darkened city, lights not lit by fire or magic.

A palm pressed to the shutter and pressed it outward, letting in the chilled air of the season.

"Roman," she whispered to the outside, cautious eyes flagging as they shifted over tiled rooftop to stone-patterned ground. She had no idea if he was still in the area after telling him to leave as she did. Lids lowered and she let the wind brush her face.

'Micheal' she called mentally, reaching out for him with what little feeling she had left that night. 'Can you come or is it getting too close to day?'

'Should only take me seconds majority of the town is sleep or suffering from hangovers.' -He open his eyes as they adjusted to the darkness like it was the daylight to the eyes of the human, It has been an interesting evening since the meet with the young girl B, to hearing "it" demand he stay out of what Jayara was to do. He hopped out the window with ease as he took off running chasing towards the pull that led him to Jayara.

-It was the long that even the red hair was distinct from the shadows and he still didn't look to happy about what happen earlier and how hit happen.- - He looked up at her and then gave a slight wave, as he knew he shouldn't be too upset at her at least she knew he was out there and he looked at the door then the window where she was at and wonder to himself which entrance what he allowed to come in.-

Her hand motioned for him to enter through the window and not the front door, her face much more sullen than he'd seen it last inside the building on the lower floors. Even though he'd been associated with her and could possibly take the front entrance now, with all that had happened it was probably best not to stir the pot with the rest of the cult even more.

She remembered something as soon as he took a step forward and had him pause. She looked down at her sleeve and then back at him. "My shirt... I probably smell of blood. Is it going to bother you?" The only pair of extra clothing she had was at the inn with Volpone.

'Instead of the front door, head for a second floor window on the south side,' she added to her words for Micheal thinking it would be best for him to remain unseen as well.

"Human blood still makes me ill thanks to you" - He truthfully stated and with a couple bounds he was on the window's edge.-

"Honestly I feel horrible for that girl, and less worried about how your clothes smell."
-He slowly walk through and kept an eye out for Micheal.-
