Once again, Zulimar allowed the conversation to lull, enjoying the company. It wasn't often that she got to share such things with another who appreciated them as she did.
However, the peace was short lived as the storm grew wilder and whipped up some massive tidal waves. One of which towered over their rock. Before Zulimar could fully comprehend what was happening, the wave came down on them harshly.

Candramus was swept away, down into waters he was unable to fight against. "Zulimar!" He got out before being pulled down with the crashing of another wave.

Panic filled the mer as she saw her new companion dragged down. Even if he hadn't been an Earth pony, he probably wouldn't have been able to fight the tide's pull easily. She pushed away from the rocks she had been clinging to and dove into the thrashing waters, fighting against nature's pull as she searched for him. When she spoted the pale blue in the black sea, she struggled her way to him, reaching out and attempting to grab hold of him.

Candramus reached for her, his hoof inches from touching hers before another wave pulled him further away from her. He kicked harder, attempting to once again close the distance between the two of them.

Bubbles burst from her lips as she let out a cry of dismay and frustration. She gave a powerful thrust of her tail in an attempt to get closer to him, but the stormy seas seemed determined to keep them apart as a wave slammed into her side sending her spiraling off course.

Tired and losing energy, Candramus made one last attempt to reach her before being swept under the water for one last time. Too tired to fight anymore, he drifted down to the ocean's floor and lost consciousness.

Zulimar watched him sink out of view, horrified. She fought and struggled with the waves, knowing that he was running out of time. What idiot had decided that only Mers and Seaponies could breath under water, anyway? It seemed an eternity before she was finally able to reach his limp form. Praying it wasn't too late, she ignored her own burning muscles, and reached out for him, just barely managing to grasp his hoof in hers. She used that small hold to pull him close and wrap her arms around him tightly. Another wave knocked into her then, trying to rip her prize from her, but she gritted her teeth and refused to let him go. Instead, she swam for the surface, and from there, to the shore until she was able to drag both of them onto relatively dry land. Every inch was a struggle, and it felt like she would never reach a safe haven, but somehow, she succeeded.
"Candramus?" she panted, ignoring the rain that was still pelting her. She had dragged both of them up the shore, away from the edge of the water, just to avoid being swept back up again. She had never been so far inland before, but that was lost in her concern for the other pony.

He couldn't hear her, but the change in the motion jarred him awake, "Zul..."

"Candramus, thank the seas... er... or.... you know what I mean," she collapsed beside him, the adrenaline pouring out of her now that she knew he was... more or less alive.

"I'm not the one that almost drowned! Can you move? Breathe? Are you okay?" the questions came rapidly, though she didn't move much. She was just too sore and exhausted.
