morquarwen I love the HP books, cant wait for the 7th one. Though I have to question JK's sanity after what she did at the end of the 6th, and I have to wonder how many lynch mobs she started lol I know I cried for like 2 days, I was just shocked that she would do that. As for Snape I always knew he was a slimey git lol, and Fudge is just as bad. Then again I don't like Ron or Hermione much either.....go figure that stare She's following the traditional "hero / quest" ideology - so of course what happened in #6 had to happen! Just like other supports were systematically removed in #5 and even #4 (to a lesser degree). It's a literary process... usually done in a single book (various Greek mythologies come to mind, for example) - she's just taking 7 books to do it!

I went to a yard sale yesterday and found a Tolkien box set... the Hobbit, and LOTR 1-3. I tried looking it up on Amazon and Ebay just to see if I got a good deal on them, which I'm pretty sure I did considering I only paid $2 for the set. I'm kind of interested in finding out when this set was released, but they have different dates on the inside and I'm not sure which one is right. I've never read the LOTR books before, so I guess once Devan gets done, I'll start on them.
LOL, it's kinda funny... Devan called his friend to come down and look at them after school and the boy said 'How much did you pay for them?' When I told him $2, he offered me $10 for them.

You could probably sell them for a heck of a lot more than that! blaugh To know the actual printing date of the set you got, look for the most recent date (should be the first one?) and the other dates are just other previous printing dates of LOTR.

I'm looking for a couple good suggestions for books... something fun to read, but not entirely dull-witted, fantasy / sci-fi are fine... purely for enjoyment, and before I go off into reading a heap of philosophy books...
Thinking about: Grendel Wicked - will probably wait until the book is available in a smaller format: don't like holding large books while reading... Eragon (before the movie comes out) Mists of Avalon (I think I read this *years* ago, but can't recall) something I've not yet read by Phillip d**k, H. Hesse, G. Orwell, N. Gaimon, HG Wells, A. Huxley, W.Gibson, T. Pratchett...
Suggestions? Thanks!

WickedOrange Eragon (before the movie comes out) Mists of Avalon (I think I read this *years* ago, but can't recall)
*thumbs up to these* I really want to re-read Mists of Avalon, but maybe not before re-reading the half blood prince and lotr tril (already re-read the hobbit and the other potter ones recently.) I have yet to read Eragon, but WANT TO! And I wasn't sure if it was being made into a movie or not, but Jason asked if I knew after he saw a video game after it. Oh, and then he told me to get to it and write a book so they could make a movie and video game after it. lol Gosh, other suggestions? Have you read any of the dragonriders of pern series? Dragonflight is first, I think, and I actually like that one best of the 4 I've read so far. Followed by dragonquest, the white dragon, and moreta dragonlady of pern.

Thanks faWn!
Bought a few things at the bookstore!! I've let my husband take first-read priviledges at Eragon, since I picked up a Mercedes Lackey book that, from the description, piqued my interest a bit more than Eragon right now. The movie is being released next month, btw (at least around here; I've noticed over the years that movies often preview and are released on *very* different dates sometimes).
The Dragonriders of Pern! - that's actually a series I was trying to remember ... I read a bunch of them in Jr High, believe it or not, and was thinking it may be worth another look. Terry Brook(e)s was another author I was considering rereading... the Narnia series, of course (maybe Santa will bring them)... Hmmm....

Eragon is a really good book, as is the second book, Eldest. 3nodding From seeing the previews of the movie coming out next month, it looks as if they've combined both of the books to make one movie though.... I'm not for sure though, just that some parts in the trailers didn't happen until toward the end of Eldest. rolleyes
I don't think I can be much help on books lately... I seem to be leaning towards 'Women of Faith fiction', with Karen Kingsbury and Terri Blackstock.

Does that mean I need to read them both before the movie comes out? confused When does it come out in the US? I did see a trailer recently, so I'm guessing SOOOOON! I was thinking of buying Eragon today, depending on how much it is.

Yes, you're right. Dec 15. I saw the movie posters all around the mall when we went this weekend. I also bought the paperback of Eragon but not Eldest because they only had hardback and it was more than twice as much.

I also bought the paperback of Eragon but not Eldest because they only had hardback and it was more than twice as much. Seems hubby is nearly done reading Eragon, so I may snag it to read soon (not like I'm already reading at least 3 books, though! sweatdrop )... but if the movie combines the Eldest into it, then I doubt we'll be reading that one before the movie comes out (assuming of course we manage to get out to the theater to *see* it before it's released on DVD!) I don't like paying double the amount for the same book either, fawN 3nodding . I also find that the hardcovers are harder to hold while reading (but I do marathon reading sessions and that may have something to do with it). And somehow ending up with a mixed set (hardcover/softcover) from a series of books is irksome to me... I waited to read HP#6 until it was available in softcover, for example.

There is a new James Patterson book out, called Cross. I think its about Alex Cross, and I think its the same Alex Cross that is featured in the movies Along Came A Spider and Kiss The Girls (Morgan Freeman played him) I cant wait to read it, books like that are my favorite!
