"... Still don't see why we need the prisoner on-site for the soul cannon to...." Ty heard as he listened. The voice was deep and had a sort of scratchy quality to it.

The surviving elementalist from Carlyle's pod shrugged. "I'm no necromancer. The Angels usually get pissy about them, we don't have many."

After relating what he had heard, Ty said, "Oh, no. I just mean if it's a fingerprint or retinal scan to get in, they might be able to give us a hand. Or eyeball it for us." He grinned at his own puns.

Carlyle passed on a message from the bridge: "Tyrgani security usually relies on subdermal implants on their people - but they're powered by the mana of the person. If you could find a way to fool the sensor into thinking it was the now-dead guy's mana, I suppose that might work."

"Their mana-checking is really terrible, isn't it?" Cassandra asked. "If we were just to dump some mana into him, it could potentially fool the door, we'd just need to pop the frags in right away."

"Or gun them down," Calyle suggested, hefting his enormous rifle. "If the mana scanner thing doesn't work, I have a few more feet of that wire, so... yeah."

He paused. "Wait, do they have a prisoner in there?" he asked, pressing his ear to the door.

The young werefox shifted his feet agitatedly. This waiting around and talking was boring him after the adrenaline rush. He was not usually a leader, but action needed to be taken, and more quickly than it was at the moment. He turned to the knight.
"Not to step on any toes, but I want to get in on the action again." He smiled congenially. "Isaac, could you run and grab a corpse, please? The blood mage is probably the best; you and your beastliness can bring him back here without breaking a sweat, I imagine. Cassandra, when he returns, would you mind pumping some mana through him? If the door opens, someone torch the room and the rest of us can ambush survivors. If not, Carlyle, sir, if you wouldn't mind treating us to some more blast action with that wire?" He remembered Carlyle's last question. "That is, assuming they don't have a prisoner."

"Is his blood going to stain the panel?" one voice asked as Carlyle listened. It was the scratchy voice again."

"No, it won't stain the panel. Look," another voice replied. There was a loud and indistinct noise of distress and/or surprise, almost certainly from a male, loud enough for all of them to hear. "See?" A pause, then: "No stain."

"All right. Get him ready, then."

"Forget the prisoner, blow the door and we'll decide who to shoot afterwards," Cassandra suggested. She prepped her rifle. "I can go with that plan, but I still would suggest the frags - we'll not just blow apart the initial ambush victims, we'll hit everyone who's in there, and the people in the next room will be disoriented, so it's a win-win. Well, but there is the prisoner... he could survive the door blasting but not the frags..." Cassandra fell into thought. "Let's just shoot 'em for now... don't want to lose anyone, but..."

"I can work with that. Since we don't have gravity on our side this time, we'll need a second charge to knock down the section we blow out. I have a couple of shaped concussive charges here, we'll use one to knock the middle part out," Caryle spoke quickly, pulling back from the door. He used duct tape to hold the wire in place as he made a large rectangle on the door. "I'll go through first, for I am loud and distracting," Carlyle declared, affixing the shaped charge to the wall to the right of the door, aimed right at it by a small mound of putty that hardened instantly with a small amount of mana poured into it. "Ready?" He hefted his rifle and tossed the detonator over his shoulder for whoever would catch it. "Count it down."

Cassandra caught it, lost it, caught it again, and repeated two or three times before dropping it six inches to the ground. She winced, picked it up, and began counting.

"Three... Two... One..." Her rifle was ready, if not her mind. Things slowed down as she prepared to hit the switch. Was there going to be some sort of punishment for this? Would they kill someone they didn't want to? Whose prisoner? A Coven prisoner? Or someone they didn't care about?

No more time for thinking. She pushed the detonator in.

Boom.

The middle of the door disconnected from what was around it; thousands, possibly millions of dollars of Tyrgani technology exploded in a burst of sparks and sound as the concussive blast launched the door into the room, striking a power armor, which stumbled backwards. The power armor threw the chunk of the door to the side and began to reorient himself.

Carlyle quickly recovered from his surprise and rushed in, firing at whatever he saw in bursts; Cassandra, Ty, Isaac, and the elementalist with them followed. Two men clad in all-black turned to them. One promptly revealed his nature by ghosting, sinking through the floor as he drew his knife. The other dove behind the control console for the ship's gun. Next to the panel, bound, blindfolded, gagged, on his knees, and bleeding from his cheek, was a very tall, heavily-muscled man with an eyepatch under the blindfold.

Cassandra jumped forward, pumping rounds out of her rifle, aiming for the man going behind the gun console. "Watch for the Ghoster!" she shouted, although it was plain - she just wasn't going to do it. She beelined for the gun console, her rifle still had maybe thirteen rounds in the magazine, so that would be good enough to finish off the man behind the console, she needed to make this kill so they could focus on the Ghoster - she reached the console and vaulted, started rolling - her hand had gotten stuck a moment too long, she was off balance, she was just going to... roll around?

She opened fired as she rolled over the console. With any luck, it would punch a hole through his forehead.

Isaac was about to go back for the body, though he did not at all believe Ty's compliment. They went with the other path, though, so Isaac slid into line second. Following behind Carlyle, Isaac hoped his REF could possibly cause more disorientation as they entered the room.

Upon entering, Isaac watched the Ghoster sink through the floor in front of them. Eyes widening, Issac remembered that his REF would grant him at least a level of safety, so he busied himself with staying out of the way. Eyes falling on the bound prisoner, Isaac made a dash for him.
Sliding across so that he was on his level, Isaac spent a Planning AP to do performed a neat series of slashes and freed the man completely.
Then, spinning while on the ground, Isaac pushed up and ran for the Power Armor. Activating all of his augs to max and cranking his REF up, Isaac slid between its legs and cut out the joints there, then popped up and slashed at its neck, even as Ty did the same.

Ty was quite effectively distracted from his corpse-gathering goal by the advent of something small and motile flying over Carlyle's shoulder. "Got it!" he said with quiet excitement, but immediately recoiled as Cassandra went for it, letting the woman take first shot. He winced as it bounced, but was bouncing soundlessly and happily on his clawed toes.
He whooped as the door blew open and followed the rest in. Swinging around the power armor's back, he latched onto its shoulders and neck with his knees, drew his gun, and holding it with both hands, fired as many shots as he could get in at point blank range into the back of the neck joint, then flipped off and landed in a feral stance, one hand holding the gun and the other's claws braced on the ground.
