Kat pointed out the deli across the street as they approached it. "It's called 'Al's Deli' but it's actually run by his son Kevin now," she explained to Adrian. "They make everything that they sell - including the chips." She paused for a moment, then gave Adrian an inquisitive look. "Have you ever had chips?"

Kat laughed quietly at Adrian's expression. "Of course it's food, silly. And chips are potatoes that have been sliced really thin and baked until they turn crispy! They're very good. But you can also get fries here."

A young redhead behind the counter suddenly noticed Kat and smiled widely. "Hi Kat!," he chirped. "You want the usual?" He gave Adrian a curious look. There were only two other customers in the small deli.

"Of course!" She saw the look he was giving Adrian and said. "Oh! Adrian, this is David. He lives in the same apartment complex that I do. And David, this is Adrian. He's a teacher as well...." She kind of made an awkward face that was meant to hint that they were on a lunch date.

David blinked at her expression, obviously confused, but he didn't ask any questions and instead gave Adrian a friendly smile. "Nice to meet ya, Adrian. What would you like?"

Gavin pouted. Adrian and Kat had passed by him on their way to lunch nearly ten minutes ago, and he hadn't so much as flinched to follow them. Maybe it was the happy look on Kat's face that stopped him - or maybe it was just common decency. One couldn't be sure; but one thing was certain - Gavin was both very hungry and very unhappy. Not only was he not sure where he wanted to go to get lunch, but he had no one to eat with! In Gavin Kantor's eyes, very little was worse than having to eat a meal alone.

He glanced down the hall, his golden gaze falling on Ben. The human was standing at the end of the hallway, his arms folded over his chest with a very pissed expression. Gavin quickly averted his gaze, deciding to look elsewhere for a lunchmate. He pushed off the wall and sauntered down the hall towards the teachers' lounge. Surely he could find someone to eat with there.

Kat giggled, though she brought up a hand to her mouth to try to suppress it. She didn't want Adrian misunderstanding her and thinking she was making fun of him. Actually, she found his ignorance adorable.

David gave Adrian a confused look when he asked what fries were. However, once the elf ordered, the redhead quickly keyed it into the register. "What drink would you like with it?"

Kat paled. She'd forgotten to ask Adrian if he'd ever had a soda. She remembered the first time her uncle had tried a soda - and proceeded to spew it all over her aunt's face. Amazingly enough, they weren't married until after that happened. Needless to say, her aunt was a patient woman.

"Uh.... Adrian's not very familiar with American food." The statement was only partially true - but the realization on David's face was enough to prompt Kat to breathe a hardly noticeable sigh of relief. "Just make it two lemonades," she told David.

Adrian looked at Kat, and gave a slight frown. Was she making fun of him? He hoped not--it was always a bad sign to be made fun of on your first date. He couldn't help not knowing what fries were! He'd heard Thali ask her kids if they wanted them with their cheeseburgers. (He'd learned enough about the area to know about them.)

"Yeah, lemonade sounds nice." The elf said brightening. "We have that where I'm from."

Livvy's blush deepened as he spoke to her. "No, I'm not lost..." She managed. "Just looking for someone. She was supposed to meet me earlier.. She probably forgot." She sighed, and gave Gavin a shy smile. "Do you know anywhere I could get something to eat?" She asked. "I've never been in the area and..." She blushed again. "Are you a teacher?" She then seemed to consider her question. "Oh no, if you're a student, I'm sorry! I don't mean that you look old or anything! You.... Look nice." Her last statement was hardly more than a mumble.
