After finishing his business with Charles Zaine bid the man farewell and left, back to do the myriad of duties he had back in his squad.

Reikai dragged William in from the 10th Squad training grounds. "'Scuse me? Is anyone there? We've got a bit a situation here." She called out. She wasn't sure if the 12th Squad could help with this...She had never heard of, nor seen, a Shinigami who could Animorph before. An Arrancar maybe. But never a Shinigami. She shook her head and called out again.

Zaine leaves without much fuss- apparently happy with the modded clasp. Charles wonders what might be coming of this, but as long as the 'customer' is happy, and he has his personal mod, who cares? In fact, all he had time to do was to clean up the few tools and spare parts left over before somebody else comes calling. Charles takes his sweet time while putting away his tools, not willing to gain the reputation of being a slob or have a messy workspace. Coming back downstairs with a genial smile, he clasps his hands loudly to ensure that his presence is known as he visually surveys the scene. One dragging another, and they come here? Why not the fourth squad? That curiosity, rather than some painfully noble ideology motivates him for the moment.
"Yes, I am here. Is there something I may aid you with?" In truth he could care less, but this is a puzzle to be solved . . .

"Hello," William said with a bow of respect before saying, "My name's William Stark and I'm sort of very new to the whole 'being dead' business. The problem that we've got for you is that I was recently training and I spontaneously change into a....a leopard. I don't know how it happened nor what may have caused it, but I think it might be a bad sign according to what the others in Squad Ten tell me. I didn't feel bad at all except for the slight disorientation of changing." William felt his wrists where the blades sat peacefully in their scabbards. Two thousand years worth of dealing with doctors had helped him to formulate how to deal with them: avoid as much as possible. Knives, needles, blood that wasn't yours, it all disgusted him beyond being slightly squeamish with his empathetic mind. Never the less, he held his facial expression of confusion despite the color leaving his face a little.
((For the purpose of making things easier, let's just assume that William saw himself in the leopard form or that Reikai described to him what had happened.))

Reikai nodded. "Yeah. Is it actually possible for him to be able to do that?" She asked. Even though she might've just freaked out on the inside a tiny little bit, she still thought it was cool. However, if there were consequences to it.....

Hearing a western name, rather than the typical oriental fare, perked his attention. What's more, the description of being 'new to the dead business' makes him think even more. They are hiding something big. To be a shimigami, and placed in a squad he has to have been through the academy for years. Lying outright means they have something they want quiet . . . Shortly thereafter they explain the morphing into a leopard, and his answer is found. The smile on his face becomes less genial and more genuine and excited at the prospect. A lycanthrope! Such creatures of legend actually exist, and what's more one just walked in for analysis!!!
Barely containing his glee, Charles' body language tells what he is trying to hide. Leaning forward, his hands fidgeting, and his eyes dart over his form for superficial clues. "Anything is possible, only limited to probability. Now, you say the change was spontanious, without direct causality? No trigger to the change? Curious . . . and the thought of such a change happening without pain . . . most layman accounts of altering shapes denote discomfort at the very least . . . " Charles is very cautious to avoid going too deep into terminology to confuse the pair, and is very interested in keeping them from the concept of pain. Testing often is . . . uncomfortable, but he need not scare them to other experimentation groups in squad 12. Without losing eye contact with William, he moves over to a terminal and begins a search for specific keywords, mumbling them under his breath softly.
"Lycanthrope . . . Shifter . . . animal mutation . . . alternate forms . . . " All his willpower is employed to keep him from visibly vibrating. Squad 10 likely panicked because of the animalistic nature of most hollows. His ability to change shape, if linked to that ability, may help his reiatsu rarification theory to bridge hollow and shimigami. If he can understand this change, help William control it, he may be one step closer to achieving power of his own in similar fashion. He already has one unorthodox weapon in place, why not another?

William followed the doctor carefully; not one sound, not one movement went unnoticed. His feline ears twitched at every sound while his tail twitched at every swift movement in anticipation of a spontaneous attack. To say the least, he felt uncomfortable. William thought back to the event and realized he had felt something similar back in the bar, "Well, I'm not sure, but I think I changed once already. And as far as causality goes, it might have been caused by one of the several actions that I had performed."
He thought back even harder to remember exactly what had happened; his hand covered his eyes and he swayed ever so slightly while he did this. Images flashed before his eyes over and over again until he recalled everything he could to the best of his ability. "I distinctly remember starting a small practice fight with Maikeru of Tenth Squad. Then, around the time of the incident I ran at him and had intended to say that I'd get a hit in on him. I only got to the word 'hit' before I sneezed. After that I went tumbling and couldn't really move because of disorientation." He was lost in thought about the matter for yet another few seconds while trying to recall the bar incident. "I....I don't remember much from the bar, not that I drank more than I could handle mind you, but I do remember a lot of pain just after.....just after.....I-I don't exactly remember what happened, but I bent forward for some reason."
His feline ears picked up the doctor's whispers, faint as they were. "You can't possibly think that I'm....no that wouldn't make any-" he had begun to question the doctor's hunch but stopped before saying the word sense. "With everything I've experienced today, that might not be the best sentence to use," he thought to himself. "N-never mind what I just said; anything's possible, just like you said."

Charles can't help but eye the more feline attributes on display, and remembering some cat psychology, he remembers what those postures might mean. William is agitated, but not furious. Disturbed, but not to the point of giving up and leaving. Dancing a dangerous line, Charles pushes onward as the system searches file after file for the keywords he put in. Unsurprisingly, his work is overheard. Then again, he never meant to hide them. The excitement of the moment ensures that he can't keep much hidden.
Charles' notebook almost seems to appear out of nowhere as he draws a rough sketch of William, the details growing clearer by the moment as he talks. "So, you tried to spar, were drinking, and took a tumble . . . too many causes to identify just one. Each however, would refer to some sort of increase in reiatsu. Drinking reduces inhibition, sparring requires energy, and sudden shocks adrenalize the body and spirit. In all cases a surge of energy is involved. It seems the last time you didn't make it all the way back, either. Interesting . . ." Charles pours over his near-perfect image of William, he makes notes in his coded language on color, size, patterns, and any other details he can pick up with his analysis.
Hearing the objection, he perks up again. "Oh of course not technically a lycanthrope. Such refers to werewolves, and you are most definitely not lupine! Still, the term blanket references any creature with that shifting state to humanoid." Charles approaches William with an excited smile, and looks in the eyes, half expecting to see vertical slits for pupils. With a smirk of curiosity, he continues in his best 'calm voice.'
"So, the questions become are you willing to find that causality, or merely ask if this is normal for you? Further, are you looking for a limiter on this change?" Secretly Charles wants to experiment on this thoroughly, and develop all manner of devices related to this shift . . . but even in his scientific fervor he understands that he doesn't have the authority to keep another shimigami for "observation," much less experimentation.

"It might be best to try and find the cause of my change before it happens again at such an inconvenient time. I had no control over the change at all, so no it was not normal for me. The fact that I've only been in Soul Society since today might be an indication of my knowledge here. If and when we find out what the cause of the change is, I'd like to find some way to better control it, not necessarily limit it." William watch uncomfortably while the doctor sketched his image onto his notebook. He knew he was setting himself up for experimentation, but he'd only let it go until he knew what triggered the changes and how to control them.

"Pity." The word is a barely spoken mumble, but being so close to William, he knows it was heard. Still, why be humble about it? One doesn't go to squad 11 hoping they will use restraint in training. Here in squad 12, William had to understand what he was headed for. Taking a polite step backward, Charles looks at his notes for a few moments considering the best course of action. Even more, he is pouring over what his 'patient' has said. He is more concerned with control that limitation, making the changes 'convenient.' He also continues to say he has only been in the . . . ah, that's it. He's been training for some time, but only recently was admitted to the Seireitei. That explains the 'newly dead' comment earlier. Still, perhaps this is his normality.
Bringing a hand up to his face in the 'thumbs up' position, he lightly taps his lips with that thumb in thought. Charles' eyes dart back and forth considering options. Ultimately he realizes that no conclusion can be made yet. Causality and normalcy must be established. Besides . . . this can be an interesting test of his toys! "Standing here will not solve the issue- so we must head outward. Please come with me." Closing his book and replacing it behind him somewhere, Charles heads for the door, smirking at the possibilities.

With one last doubtful look at Reikai, William said, "Thank you for bringing me here. I'll try not to be here for too long, so you can either come with or you can leave. If I'm not back at the Squad in a few days, then you'll know something went wrong."

Returning to his home, Charles moves through a few halls and finds the room that still houses his reiatsu rarification experiment. One of these days he will have to return to that. For now however, he has to tweak his working prototypes and replenish his supplies. Recreating the grenades he used already is a simple matter, though it does take a bit of time. All the while, his mind works on other applications and augmentations to his sonic weapon.
After a while a brainstorm hits him. True, the tethers worked well, thus the sonic disk will work . . . but he considers a secondary use. The disk can be armored on it's dorsal side to protect once set, but the tethers do not have that option. With renewed vigor, Charles begins to devise simple contacts for a minor current on the handle of the weapons. Yes, this should come as a nasty surprise! Based on a unique failing of the human body, Charles realizes that balance is controlled by the same body part that hears. The proper frequency should wreak havoc on a person's ability to balance and move on anything more than three limbs. With some contacts on the handle, the DARTs could quickly become vertigo-inducers. Yet another trap to be tested- something quickly becoming Charles' specialty . . .

Expanding the capability of each DART does not take long, though enhancing each of the eight does take time. By the time he is working on his third, Charles realizes a slight flaw in the process: himself. The vertigo system would affect him just as much as any other living being with balance as part of the ear. Not willing to give up on another trap to be placed in combat, he presses on with the augmentation. By the time he has modified his sixth DART, Charles has devised a simple filter. Based on a hearing aid, or a communications earpiece, he can slip them into his ears without much trouble- making them effectively invisible.
Finishing up with his final tether, Charles has the majority of his work planned out. Musing at how much hardware he is planning on wearing each day, he thinks of it as "strength training" as he begins work on some very small devices for his own ears. Programming them for the opposite wavelength for the vertigo siren, the hope is that they will not interfere with normal hearing while filtering out the boobytrap. Time will tell . . .
