Aura, having poked her head into the hall when she heard the door opening, came sprinting down the hallway and into her father's arms. "Where were you?" she demanded, echoing her brother without knowing it. She was quivering a little. It was a little embarrassing, behaving like a child who'd been scared by the dark at almost seventeen, but she had been frightened.
Engela smiled faintly at the twins, and just as suddenly frowned, her gaze sharpening on Aura. She thought she'd seen...? No. It must have just been a trick of the light. If she hadn't felt it before in the seventeen years she and Mathias had been raising the twins, it couldn't be there. Besides, where would Aura have learned power like that?
Still, the image haunted the back of her mind. For just a second - the smallest part of a second - she thought she'd felt the sparks of lightning magic in her daughter's power.

Kirra walked back onto Lexi's street, a backpack slung over her back, filled with supplies to get them to the town on the edge of the Eastern Desert. She stood in the street and leaned on her scythe as she waited for the girl to meet her.

Mathias hugged his daughter, a spliting image of Engela at her age. Not that Engela changed at all, that was the advantage of being near-immortals. But the care-freeness of youth was lost after facing a war, facing ..him. Oh well, peace was upon them now. "I'm sorry Aura. I had to take care of a group of Remnants that were threatening to rebuild the old Empire. I thought it best if I didn't involve the two of you. Not to keep it a secret, just a father wants better for his children. I don't want you to have to be killers yet." Kissing her cheek, Mathias smiled. "That was an impressive locking spell you used. You two are both so very strong. OH, speaking of strength, I was working with 'Uncle' Leon and Alex tonight. They brought a third person with them, a very strong Water Mage. I think you'd like him, Aura." Smiling and winking at his daughter playfully. He always liked trying to set her up with a boy, but she just never liked any of them.

Alexa spotted Kirra. With a pleased little cat-grin, she swung herself out her window and climbed down, loping up the street to meet her. "Hey," she said casually, shifting her own bag over her shoulder. "I was beginning to think you weren't coming."
~
Aura rolled her eyes and smiled a little. Her father never gave up. "You always think I will," she retorted. Then her face closed and she said thoughtfully, "Remnants? How many of them are there, Dad? I thought they were all gone."
Was this what her parents had been so worried about lately? If so, that would explain a lot. She couldn't help but shudder a little. The last thing she wanted was to see her parents plunged back into a war like the one they told her about. Those stories still left images in her head - images that were surprisingly clear and lifelike. Almost like she'd been there.
Engela smiled at her family, putting the disturbing image out of her mind. "Come on," she said lightly. "I want to hear what you kids were working on while we were away."

Einon laughed when his dad tried to set his sister up with a boy. But when he said Remnants, he shuddered too. He hated those stories, all the pain his parents told him about. That poor girl that died, the lightning user. It was all so tragic. He waited for his dad to answer, but when his mother asked what they did, he shrugged. "I did some of the sword training dad taught me with a couple trees out back. I...kinda cut one down. Sorry." He blushed slightly. He hadn't meant to do it, but he was so focused on the flow of the sword like his dad taught him that he put too much energy into the sword and it spiked out, blowing a tree apart.
Mathias sighed at Aura's questions. "There were about 60 soldiers in a camp about 100 miles north of here. I had thought they were gone too, Aura. Which is why I went to see to it that they stayed gone." Mathias stood up and walked with the rest of them towards the living room. He laughed when Einon told them he blew up a tree. "Well I'll have to go out and see what you did."

Alex took Mathias's advice to heart and then took his father's arm and placed it around his neck and smiled warmly and said "Mom is going to be mad huh? Mathias seemed happy to see you again though dad"
Leon nodded "yes Mathias and i haven't been together for quite awhile" he looked at Artemis he hoped war would never touch that boy and if it did he prayed that he had a much better fate than poor Siobhan

Gurrin was in a secluded little village on the edge of the country in the middle of the desert. They were bascally in thier own litle world and had no idea of happenings outside the five mile radius. "Urrragh!!" he shouted, as he threw a bandit from his sword, hitting him with a llightning bolt as he flew. "Stay out," he said, pointing his sword at the other bandits, "Unless you want to die." He made his way back to the village, putting his swords away as he walked. Once he returned to his house, he went upstairs to his father, who was in bed. "Father, the bandits set fire to the wheat harvest, there's nothing I can do." His father turned to him, explaining that he needed to stop taking responsibility for the harvest, the land would replenish itself eventually. "But Father, all we have is a few goats and a small corn harvest, and we're to far away for royal help!" "Son, just go fend off the bandits, avenge your sister, protect your mother." "Alright" Gurrin then walked out, and sat on the rock at the edge of the village, waiting for bandits.

Alexa's eyes sparkled with wicked laughter. "I knew there was a reason I liked you. Come on, let's get going." She winked. "I want to be out of here before the family gets to wondering where I am."
~
Aura nodded, too, at her father's words. A flash of one or two of the dreamlike images came back to her. Pictures from the stories. Pictures she could really, really do without. "Dad..." she began hesitantly. "If they come back, what are we going to do? Are we going to fight?"
Engela stepped in before Mathias could. "Don't worry about that, Aura, because they won't come back. There are people watching for it, I promise." She looked at Mathias over her shoulder. Her eyes were clear. Tell her, please. She - they - deserve to live a life with no fear.
But she felt there was something more that was troubling her daughter, and resolved to ask her once Mathias and Einon went out to see the damage to the tree.

"Aura, I'm seeing to it that they don't come back. I promise you that your mother and I and Leon and Vix will see to it that you kids don't have to go through what we went through." Kissing her forehead again, Mathias took the subtle hint from Engela that she wanted to be alone with Aura. "You know what, we'll talk about it tomorrow. Einon, let's go check that tree out and you and I will have a little chat about your powers." Einon nodded fast and followed his dad out of the back door of the house into the woods.

Kirra smiled and said, "Lets go then." She held her hand out to Alexa, prepared to take off, she moved faster than most other people and she wanted to make sure that Alexa wouldn't get lost if she couldn't move as fast.

((OOC: Oh my God. OH MY GOD. I just had the most amazing idea for Alexa. I probably won't be able to use it until way, way later, but GOD, it's amazing...*spazzes*))
Aura gave her father a little smile, stepping back. Once her father and brother were out the door, she turned to her mother inquiringly, one eyebrow raised.
Engela sat down and indicated that her daughter should, too. Once they were both mostly relaxed, Engela said quietly, "What is it, Aura? What's troubling you so? You know I can feel it."
Aura nodded briefly, not even trying to lie to her mother - it simply wasn't worth the headache. "I don't know, Mom," she said softly. "Something...it feels like something is getting ready to go wrong. The Remnants, and the way the power is shifting, and all of it. And I'm...scared."
~
Alexa grinned. "Let's," she agreed, taking Kirra's hand without questioning it. She figured there was a reason for it.
~
Vix came in, pale and quiet, just as Alex went upstairs to bed. There was a mixture of hope and fear in her grey eyes - weird. "Leon, did Alexa...?" Then she saw his wound, and her eyes darkened. "Leon?"

Kirra gripped Alexa's hand and then turned. She took off running and pulling Alexa behind, the buildings almost a blur as she ran past them, towards the east. She easily dodged buildings and people in her dash, avoiding hitting them with her body, scythe, and Alexa.
