Gaunt blinked when he was not introduced. Of course he didn't understand that Elrohir had a certain way he preferred things to be done when getting to know people, so he was a little slow on the uptake. Gaunt recovered the best he could, however, and got to his feet when it came to his turn to talk, grasping Elrohir's hand in a firm shake. "My name is Gaunt." He gestured with his head toward Prince. "And Prince is my son. I am Serenity's suitor." He smiles at Elrohir and he nods. "Serenity told me you will have a lot of questions for me. I am prepared to answer them all honestly."

A glint appeared in Elrohir's eye as he shook Gaunt's hand, and he motioned for the man to sit down again and continue eating.
"Well, now," he chuckled softly, sitting as well now, "it's always more fun when the questions aren't expected, but if you're ready for them I'll do what I can. Unfortunately for those looking for some amusement, I'm afraid I don't ask as many questions as I used to."
"It's probably safer that way," Serenity murmured, taking Gaunt's hand and holding it tightly once he was seated again.

Gaunt nods and he smiles softly as he gently squeezes Serenity's hand when she takes it. "I understand, Elrohir. I intended to answer you honestly anyway, but I thought it would be best that you knew my intentions before you got started." He eats as best as he could with his off-hand, since Serenity had a hold of his right.

Elrohir chuckled softly, his keen eyes seeing how quickly Serenity had captured Gaunt's hand the moment he had sat down again, and he knew that for her part, at least, things were quite serious.
"Well, then," he grinned at Gaunt, "since you suggested it, let's start with your intentions. Just what are your intentions concerning my niece?"

Gaunt nods slowly at the question and answers it without hesitation. "I am dating her seriously, sir. My goal is to see whether or not I will marry her, and be married to her for the rest of my life, or if it would be better if we would move on." His thumb softly caresses Serenity's knuckles as he spoke, a light blush rising on his cheek as he spoke the honest truth, but he spoke it anyway.

Elrohir nodded, quite pleased with that reply. He especially liked that there had been no hesitation at all, it meant that his words were true.
"Then my next question is, are you able to take care of her, in whichever world you will be living in?" he asked. "Provide for her as she needs, and for your family? Shelter, food?"

He shakes his head. Again, it was an honest answer, and it was an answer that made him pale. "I will be graduating from university in a few months in my time. I do not have a job lined up. I don't know what I will be doing, so I cannot guarantee that I will have the resources I will need."

Elrohir nodded. "Understandable. And if I were to get a job in Serenity's world, I'm not sure if you're from the same world or not ... would you be glad or humiliated to have a place in her own household?"
He knew that Gaunt would be more than welcome to live with Serenity (she did after all have her own house on the clan grounds) but he also knew that there were men who refused to have anything done for them, and who would demand to do everything themselves.

He nods slowly and he smiles gently as he takes a slow breath in. This wasn't something he was prepared for, so it took a moment of thought for him to get together. "As a man, my instinct is to want to provide for my family. But, I think, as a husband my primary responsibility is to look after the happiness and well-being of my wife and children. If I can best do that by moving in with Serenity and her family on their grounds, then that is what I will do."

Serenity blushed, but her smile was so wide it was almost hurting. She could not have been happier with any of his answers. She squeezed his hand tightly to let him know how happy she was making him.
Elrohir was pleased with this answer as well, but he simply nodded. "Then I am satisfied. If you do someday join the family, you will be an honourable addition to the Aldrich family."
He smiled and reached one hand across the table to shake once again. "Welcome."

He smiles and he drops the eating utinsil into the plate, not really willing to let go of Serenity's hand as he squeezed her hand in return. He grips Elrohir's hand in a firm shake and he smiles softly. "That makes me happy, that at least half of her family is looking forward to me joining the family."

Elrohir chuckled softly, obviously amused by Gaunt's comment.
"Half," he grinned. "If this is half the family, it would be a small family indeed."
As he began to eat, Serenity turned to Gaunt to explain, once again feeling sheepish that she hadn't explained earlier.
"Mama is the oldest of her family," she told him softly. "She has eight brothers ... plus their children, and then I have twelve siblings myself, some of which haves mates and children ... plus Grandma and Grandpa Lau adopted twenty or so ..."
In other words, it was an enormous family, spread over three worlds.

He shakes his head and he chuckles softly. "I think I am misunderstood. I was talking about the Eldriches as being half of the family. The Winters being the other half." He smiles softly, his thumb going back to stroking the back of Serenity's hand.
Prince made an amazed sound, then turned to look at Ian. "It sounds like we're going to be in a big family, Ian!"
Gaunt smiles and he shakes his head. "My family is spread out. When I am not in school, I live with my parents, and we're removed from any other member of our extended family, the closest being some 700 miles away."

Serenity nodded. "Like the Aldrich half of our family," she agreed. "Aunt Haradhel and Uncle Elrohir are here, Ulani and Ulrich are in the valley with their family, probably what, five, six miles from here? The next closest are in ..."
She trailed off, uncertain as to distances.
"Chansond'eau," Arahad put in. "Probably close to four or five hundred miles as the phoenix flies, six or seven to travel it. That's to the northwest. North and east is our cousins Estel and Lothiriel, that's about a thousand miles as the phoenix flies. Southeast is where our greatgrandparents live, about eight hundred miles as the phoenix flies."

He nods and he smiles softly. "So we've found yet more commonalities about our families. It makes me feel a little more comfortable when i find out that we're not that much different, even if we do live in other worlds." And have different characteristics physically and possibly ideally, but that went on unsaid.
