wow eek rabbits can swim??? i ges u really do learn somthing new evryday confused

i had somthing simular to that happen to me too lol! i used to have an Oscar (one of the most vicious yet legal fish you could own XD so cute tho whee ) he was my first pet and we got when he was like 3 4 inches long. they grow really fast so every few mounths we had to upgrade his tank. finally he had close to a 100 gal and we decided to move him to his own pound out front. my dad left the hose running and killed him with our suckish city water. that was like 9 years ago and i'm still mad at him...

any way, back to the bunnys. first i'll tell u the outcome of my problem: Betty is no missing 3 of her nails on her hind feet.
now the reason: i took her out for one of her twice weekly walks in the garden and decided to pick her up. i held her for a little longer than i ussually do so she was very exctited to get down. she started flailing and scratching the crap outta my hands with her hind legs. needless to say, she wont let me cut her nails so they got caught on somthing and 3 ripped out. ive been watching her paws tho and they dont seem to be swelling up or bothering her, so she should be alowd out and a few days. if they do get bad tho, i was thinking about filling the tub with a few inches of warm water and a little tiny bit of peroxcide. what do u guys think?

And that is why nail clipping is a MUST! especially if you handle the rabbit alot!

My rabbits like putting thier feet in the water... Our little bably vandy will come up to you and stand in his water bowl.... we are going to get a bottle for him tommarow or soon though so he will stop spilling it everywhere! EEEK! WATER!!

i KNOW i have to clip their nails... have you ever tried to clip an unsocialized 5-7 year old rabbit's nails? i just barely had some trust going with Betty, and now we're back to square one. confused we're getting back up there tho, just very, veeery slowly...

hahahaha yeah i kinda did that today with this new buck i got yesturday... man is he a handfull! also one of the biggest holland lops i've ever seen..... But anyways it is easy if you adjust your handling to suit that animal.... he didnt take to well to the trance so because he was so afraid and has new surroundings and is unsocialized i let him get as comfortable as possible first while still keeping him in my lap.... That allowed both of us to be comfy though i'd have to admit it is easier to clip with thim in a trance....

I tend to find it's easiest to clip my rabbits nails if I give her something to munch on. Then I can just pick up a leg at a time and get it done. It's amazing how much easier it is to do her nails than the dog.

lol well as soon i've rebuilt our trust, there isn't anything i can do about their nails. i'm warming Betty back up to me tho. today i gave her some oat meal and her favorite snack, 2 little carrots. she even ate one of them from my hand, so i ges it's working whee now Princess is getting jelous because Betty is getting more attention then she is lol

ya know wuts weird... my buns dont like carrots... they prefer celery....
But i made this cool toy for them yesturday... i got a toilet paper roll(ya know without the paper on it) and i got some hay i stuffed the roll so it was nice and tight and then i cut the straggly ends of the hay off till about half an inch on either side of the roll. thay way they can see the hay but it is a challenge to get the hay out. Therefore it entertaines them for a while and they get a tasty treat in the end!

that is a really good idea! i was thinking about saving up for one of those hay wheel things (its like a hampter wheel kinda but its a sphere) for each rabbit but i think i'll do that instead. u just saved me 30 bucks heart

as for the carrots: my rabbits loooove cellery, espetially the leaves whee but if its a treat, they'll eat it. except Betty wont eat the peas we grew.

update on Betty's paws: she's looking good, no infections or anything, so as soon as i have a few mins, i'll let them out in the garden to play. soon it'll have new plants in it for them to sniff arround at. rite now they arent as interested in the garden cuz we took all the plants out except the tomatoes, pepers and i think there may still be an onion or 2...?

DONT LET THEM EAT THE TOMATO LEAVES OR STICKS!!!! Peppers are ok i think.... onions are probably ok but i'll have to look into it....

Yeah those hay wheels are cool.... And i'm glad you liked mu idea... i was thrying to think of a toy for Muffin my rex all the others had toys... I dont know how i came up with the idea though.... But my rabbit Lola liked it! i havent been out to check lately but if my predictions are correct then most of the rabbits will need a refill... mrgreen mrgreen
