~Fortune Nicholas nodded, wondering where the scientist could go with this line of work. But he was forgetting himself. "This is very interesting, Dr. Gordon." the mercenary replied. "I can tell you from past experience that the ignorant truly do fail to recognize the greater importance of some matters. I'm curious, however," he added, "do your zombies retain their souls?" Nicholas glanced over at Grey, standing up in the process. ((Nicholas can help you with your problem, later, Techni. He'll be very interesting in meeting you... with stake in hand. xd ))

Someone interested in our work? Grey replied, slightly surprised. That's rare around here.

~Fortune Nicholas smiled, holding out his hand. "I'm not from around here. Nicholas Fortune, that's me. Pleased to meet you."

Gordon smiled, "that is how I know it is a failure. I can't bring back the deceased and have them truly live. my zombies are soulless..." otherwise I'd have grandfathers rejoining their grandchildren days after they died, not lurching about in the nights when Ulric and I quarrel..."
He looked back at his assistant, "Grey, there is some tea ready, and I believe there is more bread as well..."

~Fortune Nicholas frowned inwardly. He believed that the dead should stay dead. Their bodies - well, they can be used, but that would be stretching it. To pull back people from their rightful rest, just seemed criminal. But of course the mercenary did not voice these thoughts. He also respected everyone's right of opinion, and of belief. He didn't need to seem hostile, either. "Ah, Ulric," Nicholas repeated, carrying their conversation on to the next topic. "Why do you fight with him? He raises the dead as well, does he not? I would think myself that the two of you would accomplish more together, than apart."

Gordon stopped smiling, his voice now tinged with annoyance, "Of course... the stage magician... His dumb legions of skeleton warriors... He's against me because he's the one that lives on the hill that can cure the villagers for a price. He opposes my clinic and my research, stating that what I do is abominable, and that if a villager is fated to die, than to let them die! That's against the oath I took when I became a doctor! I have to help the sick and heal the wounded... and he says that magic should be used instead of science! Magic! Ha! A load of bologna! If magic were real, we'd have castles floating in the sky! We'd be far more advanced than we are now, that's for sure!"

~Fortune Nicholas blinked, twice. The two were rivals - a pity, it was. However, the mercenary had silent doubts about true goals of the clinic. However, it would still need to be heard from the other side of the story - from Ulric. Nicholas wondered if Ulric would have the same story, or a somewhat different version. It was quite possible. "So, you're against magic. What about the supernatural creatures? Vampires, werewolves, and apparently the fact that Ulric does have reanimated skeletons, as well. I saw them last night, in fact."

"The supernatural? I don't like anything that hides from the gaze of science... Ulric included... But I don't believe in werewolves or vampires... You aren't telling me they exist, are you?" Dr. Gordon looked slightly unnerved at the possibility.

Star came awake suddenly and looked around her dark windowless room. She lite a candle and grab a book and began to read. My mind is troubled. I have to many questions. Why would the mayor call someone to the villiage. What is that man Nicholas's purpose here? All those thoughts were in her head as she read her book and waited for the sun to go down so she might do a little investigating.

~Fortune Nicholas raised an eyebrow. "Ulric has raised the dead, and you don't believe in the supernatural?" Things were getting stranger. "I won't tell you what to believe, Doctor. But I myself, do believe in supernatural beings. Even science, as brilliant as it is, doesn't know everything yet - that's why the field is pursued. To learn about that which we don't know. Am I not right?" ((Haven't forgotten....))

Grabbing a cup a tea, Grey sat down in a nearby chair to listen to Nicholas and the doctor's conversation.

"Quite so, but there is a scientific explanation for everything... There is nothing exempt from this rule. I believe he must have them strung like puppets, possibly with small joints embedded in the bones..." Dr. Gordon took a deep sip of his tea, "And I hope to one day crack the key to life itself. Then my homeland will regret forsaking me, and I may finally see my little Crystal's smiling young face again..."
