Don't say "Mika was bored." Say "Mika idly glanced at the clock while she impatiently tapped the desk."

Try to combine sentences as much as possible. Actions are not fragmented into separate lines but, in reality, are all blurred and mixed together.
Mika turned around and stared off into the distance. Was that Xumbra, riding on his bicycle in the distance? She held her hand up to shield the sun from her face. "That better be him," she thought, "Darn that sun! I can't see that well." It was a good two minutes before his shape firmly materialized: his bright bear suit, his gleaming kitana on his back, and the purple, noxious gas that expelled forth from the top of his head --
"Yes, that's him alright." Mika frantically waved her arm. "Xumbra, over here!"
Something like that.
