((Can I stab it with the Obelisk?))

((I highly doubt that stabbing him with the obelisk would do little more than either break the obelisk or make him angry...probably both blaugh ))

((Pending anyone else's intervention I will go on...*wink**wink*))

--- Coralie, at Varnis' invitation, moved towards the whitewood door and prodded the painting's mouth with the obelisk, incessantly. Not with any particular malice, or any other feeling, except curiosity over the wood painting coming to life. But it was just a painting and it was in the way, "It is in the way, it needs to be removed," Coralie mentioned to the others.
---
((Otherwise go on, I'm just provoking the door in Coralie's own naive way. ;b ))

"You do realize that I cannot feel that, right?" The portrait asks Coralie, "And more importantly you're not making a very good case as to why I should let you defile my tomb..."

User Image [[Okay, okay, it is the bard's job to sweet talk people... So here I go! mrgreen *crosses fingers* Oh and the star part is part of Kary's family name. Varla is star in aeylid, the Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. It's part of her story which isn't quite finalized yet. wink ]]

As Coralie poked the portrait, Kary stood with one hand on her hip and another curled around her chin as she attempted to do some polite and gracious improv. The half elf nodded to herself, muttering something quietly. She strolled in to the portrait's view and winking at Varnis and Coralie.

"My sincerest apologies my Lord Varovich," the bard swept into the lantern-light elegantly,"But my companion is simply, (uh?), analyzing you with her magical obelisk. Please don't be offended if we seem rude and rough, I think my friends are just exhausted with the effort we made to find you and your families histories. We've battled through a forest road of corrupted horror and demonic creatures to stand before you."

She made a sweeping bow,"Ahhh, before I get ahead of myself. I am Karythelia de'Varlen, bard of star song. My companions are Varnis, a valiant warrior, and Coralie our mysterious healer and mage. "

She paused to see how Varovich would respond. Too much talky to a noble was usually bad because they preferred to do the talky talky themselves most of the time. Plus she wasn't the kind to ooze with flattery and honeyed words.

((Hmm...let's see if he'll take the bait...and...success!))

"My family histories, eh? Why would you want to do that? Well, other than how obviously important my family is." The portrait faces toward Kary now and seems to lean forward, dragging the wood with him and giving him an oddly-stretched look, "What is it about my family that interests you three so much that you would brave so many a danger to get here?"

"Well in all honesty m'lord," Kary grinned sheepishly," Earl Nikolas Strahn from the next tomb over was the one we were sent to investigate. His miser-dom is legendary, wouldn't you believe it? But we're only doing what's required of us. I don't think you'd be able to believe the kind of stories I'm being sent out to collect. Comedy is a strange art I suppose..."

She sighed rather dramatically. "I figured that after all the effort that was required of this journey, we'd find someone with more potential. The art of tragedy is becoming scarce these days."

"Hmph...Earl Strahn? Miserable old fart...Anyway, you'll find plenty of tragedy in here, that's for sure..." Lord Varovich comments rather dryly. "Fine, enter. But if you take anything from there, or disturb any of the coffins, I can't be held accountable for what will happen to you. And I can assure you nothing you say will convince me to let you out at that point."

Lord Varovich's painting moves inward, revealing an impressive burial chamber many dozen's of feet long and wide. All the coffins line the walls, standing upright and facing inward toward the chamber itself. Three doors, each made of polished oak and inlaid with golden leaf-patterns, sit one to a wall. Everything in here seems to have been kept surprisingly well cleaned and orderly. As you step into the room, the door shuts eerily behind you as Lord Varovich comments "Don't say I didn't warn you..."

"Ooo-ouuuh, this is pre-ttty," Kary exclaimed, pleased as punch with herself, as she strolled around the chamber. The half elf stood dwarfed by the large coffins. "These guys were tall..."

She walked towards one of the doors and began to examine it. "So what exactly are we hoping to discover?" the bard asked, tracing the intricate leafy swirls with her finger. "Would it be behind door number one, two or three?"

Jumping around, he almost drew his sword as the door closed behind them. Relaxing, Varnis decided to look about the room to see what could he could find as he looked at the doors. Brushing his hands against each one, he examined them. "They must really honor their dead." Varnis turned to the center of the room, and just wondered if the other tombs where like this.

((Internet's being sketchy lately ladies and gent. So if it takes a while for me to post I'm sorry.))

It seems that each door is inscribed with a portrait (non-living this time) of the same man. Though each time he is depicted with different clothing apparently common to the time period they died in. You notice that each of these men is the same person as the one on the entry door, though sadly you don't think he can hear you from this side. The western door seems to be from the later years of the BC era, dressed in a flowing robe and simple sandles. The northern door appears to be from early medieval years, and he's dressed in a set of impressive, if somewhat frightening spiked full-plate armor. Finally, the eastern door is of the previous century, with common, if not old-fashioned and simple, garments. Along with this information, you also know that despite the lack of decaying corpses, the scene of this massacre happened much earlier than the last century, meaning that at the very least the eastern door was completed and erected after the massacre.

The only door that seemed to be of interest to Varnis was, the newly erected door. Walking slowly to where the door was, he turned and looked at the group. "Well, which door do you want to open?" He wanted to know what everyone else had though for which door they should open.

--- Coralie turned her regard to Varnis at his question, "The one you are standing at will do."

"I second Coralie," Kary replied, as she strolled over towards the two of them. "That or we can just open them all of them..." She smiled a catlike grin.

"But let's get going, the painting might start getting suspicious if we take too long here."

"I wouldn't recommend opening them all... Could be something waiting behind them..." Varnis looked at her cat-like grin. "Curiosity killed the cat you know?" Walking over to the door, he placed his hand on it, and attempted to open it.

((Sorry for the wait))

The door slides open on well tended and oiled hinges, making not so much as a sound as it reveals the passage beyond. The corridor on the other side of this door leads on for about a dozen paces before splitting off into two paths. One seems to lead to a burial location, while the other very literally looks like a hole was punched in the wall, and is big enough to easily fit even the tallest of humans. This path descends into darkness, with only the occasional torch (you think) to light the way.
