Yes. There are a few like me that I've seen. But not as many as there were, once. Our kind are dying out, sadly. We recognize eachother by scent. Its vitally important that we hide our true nature from the world. People are afraid of what they don't understand.

:::She nods::: Well, your kind did a good job... even till my time, where it is thought that all such anthropological subjects are entirely known, we have no incling of your existance.

I suppose I wouldn't know if your kind existed in mine if you kept disguising yourselfs. But among only thousands of humans left on earth, with all the biotechnological involvment in everyday life, perhaps it would be difficult to hide. If your race is becoming scarce NOW, by the time humans have become rare I don't know if your kind still live.

:::She sips::: That... doesn't matter to me now though. I'm not from that time anymore.

Is it.. difficult for you to let go... To let go of your time?
PostPosted: Sun Sep 18, 2005 3:18 pm

Very much... :::she said factually::: Imagine if you yourself left here and were meant to never see it again, and what's more, that no one here even knew you were gone. And if you had to chose between that, or death? What would you pick? Would you mind if someone else picked for you?

I... I did not want to be a part of my time anymore. I wanted very much to stay in the brink as often as I could, because knowing what I'd learned and not being able to apply it in my livelihood was torment. And so, while I'm glad I no longer have to be there, it has made me who I am up till when I arrived in the Brink. In a way, it's all I really know. How can one escape that?

:::She tried to look subjective about it when she spoke, but it was obviously a heavy topic:::

*Alex looked at his wine sullenly*

Cora... I..... I don't have to imagine. I know.

:::She looked at him quizically:::

How do you know...?

....Because I'm not originally from this time either. I was forced here. By someone we both know.

:::Her chin pressed backwards, causing her neck to retreat:::

What..? You're not? Wh- When...

:::She wasn't sure what to ask him first:::

I don't know when I was from, exactly. But my family has always been on the run, thanks to my father. When he disappeared, they came after us. Again and again. When I was eight, they found us again. We ran, desperately. But I was seperated from my father and sister, and they came after me. I don't remember much about what happened.... But they closed in on me, and there was a terrible howl. Flashes of black.. and a giant snake... And then a great popping sound... And here I was. In New York. In a completely different time. Practically a different world. And I was all alone.

*Alex's voice catches, and he stops*

:::Cora not knowing what a snake was, or recongizing the symbolism, couldn't pick it up:::

Who came after you...? Who attacked you and your family? :::But as the wheels began to turn, she rememberd again that Alex was Tavin's son...and she could only think of one person who would want to hurt Tavin:::

The Seraphim...

:::She nearly whispered as she stared at him wide-eyed:::

Ten of him. We never had even a chance. I don't know what happened to my mother or sister.... but TEN of those things. They couldn't have survived. They were looking for my father, and he wasn't there. He didn't save us. Its his fault. HIS FAULT!

*Alex wiped away the tears that were forming in his eyes*

I.. I'm sorry. Its just.. difficult...
PostPosted: Sun Sep 18, 2005 3:44 pm

:::Cora lept from her seat, and came to Alex when he called out. She knelt at his seat, and held him around the middle:::

Alex... Alex I'm sorry...I don't need to imagine how terrifying that must have been either. I've been there to revive more than one of my loved ones from his abuse... I don't know what I can say for the Captain... But we just said...we don't know how the Brink works. Maybe he couldn't? Perhaps if you're here, then your mother and sister appeared elsewhere as well..?

*With great difficulty, Alex forced a smile*

Cora, you're very sweet. I hate to see such a beautiful woman unhappy. I.. I'm sure that you're right. I mean.. there's always a chance, right? Always.

*Alex hugged Cora back*

Thank you... for hearing my story
PostPosted: Sun Sep 18, 2005 3:51 pm

:::She nodded:::

Of course...

:::She couldn't help but smirk through the drops forming at the edges of her eyes:::

We're both so tragic, aren't we? We can't even carry on conversation without doing this.

Without holding eachother? Even if tears and tragedy are the cause, having you close to me is worth it. Anything is worth feeling your warmth and compassion.

*Alex leans down to kiss Cora on the forehead*
