I somtimes like to play my bassoon without the bell biggrin

At Freshman UIL, we had some free time and I decided to try and play a Trombone. Everybody was playing each other's instruments and I had the crazy idea to try and birth a bassoon-o-bone. Yes, marry a trombone and bassoon. Amazingly, the resulting thing actually made a pretty nice sound. Of course the position was just weird!

My old band director was the greatest. He threatened our lives nearly every day. He threw his baton while conducting and also threw highlighters at people. There was also this time in Sightreading at Pre-UIL (Thank God) That he forgot the last page. He was explaining the piece and it seemed like it ended with a fermata. Well, it didn't, so when we were playing and hit the fermata and didn't put our instruments down, he decided to turn the page. His face was priceless, so we finished that piece solely by luck, no practice involoved biggrin

We have 8th position on our trombones! We peg the flutes in the back of there heads with out slides. To make it work make sure there is lots of oil on it

heh heh...my guy friend placed the bell of his clarinet between his legs and played a low (below the staff) E and said the vibrations felt cool. then proceeded to suggest myself and his girlfriend try it...

Well, as an earlier post said, don't twirl your flute. Especially if you plan on dropping it in front of your band director. Thank God it was my student flute... sweatdrop

I'm not sure if this has been said yet, but I'll say it anyway. When I was in middle school, my fellow trumpet players and myself (a trumpet player) would take our trumpets and put the bell on each other backs. Then we would blast real loud. Backs make a great mute. LOL, anyways the vibration would feel really weird. It's fun you should try it.
I also use that in marching band to sneek up on my fellow bandos, it scares them when you sneek up on them.

Back in middle school, my fellow trumpet players and myself discovered that if you put your trumpet bell on the seats of the metal folding chairs, and played, it sounded like a fart. We'd be sitting in class and doing then and the teacher would be like, ok who did that. We don't do it anymore though.

During marching band when our section (clarinets) wasn't working we would have fake light saber fight. Someone would play a low E on their clarinet while spining around or moving a lot and another person would like swing their clarinet like a light saber. Then we would have like major battle scenes. A bunch of clarinets playing Star Wars!

Hey. Here you can tell people the silliest or most interesting thing that you or someone else has ever done with an instrument! For instance, if your band director threw a drumstick at a lazy trombonist last year (he missed), post it here!

I've not done this yet, but I plan to take a picture of myself wearing a sousaphone... then animate it firing lasers like the Death Star. xp
Once my friend was twirling her flute and she dropped it and it broke.... she was punished for like.... long time... then one time... i was at band and my friend asked me 2 hold her oboe... and i dropped it by accident.... i dont think she knows about it even till this day....! biggrin smile 3nodding

one time earlier this year (marching season) my friend whose a sophomore he plays tuba and he used to always put his tuba over my head and say "ya head in my tuba!" in this hilarious voice...it was so funny you would have to b there to laugh and his name is Dwayne but when i first met him and asked his name i thought he said lorraine and to this day i call him that domokun

Our tubas are used as hoops in our band. Things are always winding up in them- like lead pipes and months old grilled cheeze sandwiches (both by the way have been found in our tubas)
Our trombone players also wear their mutes as jewelry- not intentionally, it was an , one of the freshmen got the mute stuck on his finger xp

I can get Clarinet reeds really really cheap and I buy like 3 boxes of 10, I go around the band room throwing them like ninja stars but I just throw them straight. This came in really good use one time, a trombone oil his slide so much while he was playing it went across the WHOLE ENTIRE BAND ROOM and hit me in the head. Imagine a Trombone slide at the very back of the room and hitting me, the first Clarinet in the front of the room... so I stood on my chair and held three reeds, and well lets just say one hit him in the eye and he has a scar on his right cheek stare stare stare stare
