Wendy gave a dazzling smile and then, as though reading his mind, said, "Sorry if I seem a little... patronizing. Just trying to make you feel better." She held his gaze for a moment longer, then turned her attention to her mail, unable to resist any longer. She tore it open and was pleased to see a picture as well as a letter. She took the picture out and her smile widened.
"Wanna see my brothers?" she asked, thinking Remus looked in dire need of a distraction.

Aleria sighed, realizing she had been butted out of the conversation. That seemed to happen a lot lately. She was about to walk away, before she heard what Katherine said. "Who is that girl talking about? I wonder who fell..." She said, worried.

Remus looked over his shoulder at Aleria and shrugged, not entirely able to focus on other peoples' problems. But then he heard Wendy and felt curiosity well up. Had she mentioned brothers before? He nodded meekly and sat up a bit. "Yeah, okay."

Aleria shook it off. It was probably nothing. She headed off towards the Hufflepuff table without another word, taking a seat before she ate some food.

Wendy smiled as she showed him the picture: three young men playfully beating each other up.
"That's Sam, my oldest brother," she said, pointing at the tallest of the boys, who had the other two in headlocks. "And that's Jude, the next oldest," she moved her finger to a slim, sullen-looking boy who was rolling his eyes, "and the youngest of my older brothers is Finn." Her finger landed last on a gangly kid with a Cheshire cat's grin plastered across his face. She laughed a little. "They're crazy."

Not working!! He doesn't care about the boys, he's wallowing in despair right now!! Why are you such an oblivious dunce?! Wendy's mind screamed at her. She tried to ignore it.
Of course he's wallowing in despair - that's why I'm trying to distract him. He needs to cool off before he sees Sirius again, and he'll cool off faster if he's not dwelling on what a jerk he was. I'm not trying to convince him that my life is interesting or anything, I'm just trying to help.
"Yeah, they are," Wendy replied, purposely ignoring Remus's tormented eyes and trying to will his interest toward the rambunctious trio in the picture. "Well, Jude's going through a bit of a moody phase, but other than that, yeah, they're a trip. They weren't all that different from you and the lads when they were in school; always causing an uproar, those three. Sam, he's an Auror now. And Jude's in an apprenticeship in order to become an Auror. And right now Finn's trying to get a spot on a professional Quidditch team, but he says if that doesn't work out he'll try for Auror, too." Wendy knew she was rambling quite uncharacteristically for a girl as quiet as she, but she didn't care. She'd talk until she was hoarse if she had to.

Remus felt his eyebrows rise at the mention that all three of her brothers wanted to be Aurors. That could end very badly. How did they all decide to be Aurors anyway? "Family tradition, being Aurors?" he asked, this time a bit more interested.

Sirius walked back into the Great Hall, noticing that it was almost empty, as most of the students had already finished their breakfast. Briefly, he was worried that Remus had already left. That would make the job so much harder. But, luck was on his side, and he spotted his best friend in the same place Sirius had left him.
He slowly trotted over there, holding Mar's hand and trying to come up with things to say.

Marketa clung to Sirius's hand tightly, wondering if Remus would refuse to talk to Sirius if she was present. She really felt as if she were about to intrude on a very private moment. "Per'aps you should ask to talk to him somewhere else, just in case," she spoke up to Sirius quietly.

She nodded earnestly. "It would be better to discuss dis in private. In case certain tings have to come up in order to keep someone from being hexed," she said.

Wendy shrugged, not seeing the direction of Remus's thoughts, but glad to have procured his attention if only momentarily. "Well, not an official tradition, really, but I guess a few of my relatives were probably Aurors, too. They never told me why they wanted to be Aurors, but I think that it's most likely because it's the most exciting job out there, according to them. They're all about adventure and danger and all that. Like I said, they're crazy. My dad always says I'm the only one keeping them in line." She smiled ruefully.

"Must worry you," Remus said kindly, putting a hand on Wendy's arm for a moment and then quickly drawing back as if he were infectious. Which he sort of was, actually...
Mar took a steadying breath, and then nodded. "If you tink you can trust him, I do too. Besides, de trut' will come out eventually."
