Sokra rushed up the stairs, hearing the seizure from above. He paused a moment at the door, then rushed in. The seizure stopped and Lyu was staring at her hands. Grey hands. "It has you." Sokra whispered. "You look like my mom did after... she was infected. But that was before..." He fingered the golden magical band around his neck. "It was before I got the shield."

With wide, wounded eyes, Lyu stared sightlessly at her new appendages. She took in a deep, slow, rattly breath. "W...what do I do?" She let her hands fall in her lap, and looked up at Sokra, shaking. She did not want to add to her dark fate, but it looked like she had no choice.

"It was me. It... it was... me." Sokra's eyes gained moisture at the edges. He walked forward slowly, raising a hand and putting it on Lyu's shoulder. Tears streamed down his cheeks as the liquid flowed, and a golden light emanated from his hand. The gray started to recede, Lyu's normal skin tone replacing it, but at her neck a thin band of gray was left. "I linked us." Sokra said, struggling through the tears. "It didn't affect me that quickly, so I gave you my strength. The process will slow now, but will continue. If either of us succumbs, we both will." Sokra drew a long, rattling breath. "We have to find the cure now. We have to."

Lyu nodded, steeling herself for a torturous journey. She had been through (I almost wrote threw) a lot of hard times, and she had unwillingly forgotten most of them, but the feeling of strength from desperation remained. She could handle whatever he could.

Sokra took another deep breath, but this one made him stronger. "I think we need to go to the library, then my dad. My dad won't help us unless we know more about the curse. He's not a bad man, he just fears I will unleash it. If we know what we're doing, he will tells us what he knows and the books don't." Sokra grasped her hand. "let's go." He said quietly, looking at the gray lines on her neck. He slowly reached for his seal collar.

A solemn laugh. "At least now we share the same fashion." She accepted his hand, and they went, like the world was ending, to the library. As all the world must do in times of peril, they turned to the knowledge of the ancients, calling, screaming for the guidance of those who lived before.
(I'm feeling very creative and mystical right now. O_o)

Sokra unhinged the collar, slipping his hand from Lyu's to look at it. He steadied his hand, went behind Lyu, and put it around her neck. He traced his finger along the runes, then moved the same finger over the dark grey and green scars on his neck. Sokra hitched up his cloak so his neck wasn't visible, took Lyu's hand again, and entered the library. Bad version of Sokra's scars:

Lyu took the gift without a word, knowing that giving up such a precious shield was hard for Sokra. She followed him into the library, blinking in amazement at the walls lined with hundreds, thouands, of leather-bound tomes. She was in awe, had never seen such knowledge amassed in one room, let alone in one town. She broke free of his gentle hold, and ran to the nearest shelf, mumbling (I wrote mubling. Ha.) to herself as her wide eyes took in title upon title upon title.

Sokra started to the right, motioning Lyu to go to the left. "History and mythology are both towards the back." He said, and started moving quickly between rows. Sokra skidded on the floor, lowering his hood, and stared up at a towering shelf. He spied a book on the top, and leapt up, grabbing the shelf and book, dropping before the shelf could tip. He sat at a nearby table, lighting a candle, and opening 'The Gods and Worship', turning towards the god of Disease.

Lyu at frist peered over his shoulder but, realizing her breathing in his ear could be annoying him, sat down on the other side of the table. She stared in the candle flame, waiting for Sokra to speak. Suddenly she saw, or imagined she saw, a glaring pair of eyes. She leaned forward to see better, and as she did, the eyes winked. She flew backwards, chair tipping and crashing to the ground, spilling it's occupant.

"Hey, look here. First idea's a charm." He said, pointing towards the Disease god. (First idea, and about two months of not posting.) "The Kant are assassins of this God, and whoever he marks is going to die, one way or another." He said this with no fear, and turned to Lyu. "At this rate, we are going to die. Of old age. Talk about poor assassins."

Lyu stammered, then stood, pointedly not looking at the candle. She let out a weak, forced laugh, and gestured Sokra back to his reading as she wandered a little ways away, looking for a jar. Not likely to find one in library, but still. At her old home there had been...wait...she could almost see...shelves lined with jars and bottles...but it was gone and she was still looking.

Sokra looked at her, seeming to just have processed what had happened. "What...?" She pointed at the candle and Sokra nearly yelped, blowing it out and lighting a flame above his palm. "That was not good. He's watching us."
