((Okay, so just that you can see what the guy on the phone says, I wrote it but it's itlisized, which means that Gabriel can't actually hear it...))
Following his actions carefully, Nikki noted that he seemed to be a little scared that she had guessed something so secret. As he opened up a cabinet and grabbed the plates, she wondered what he would think if he knew the only reason she had been able to tell was because she had been hurt before too. Funny that. Sighing, Nikki reached over to set her hand on his shoulder, the only action she could think of to try and calm him, before the phone rang once again.
Throwing an irritated glance at the thing, Nikki sighed and dropped her hand, before walking over and picking up the stupid contraption. "Hello?"
"Hey, little girl," said a male voice, the tone filled with evil and hate.
And despite the fact that Nikki knew instinctively who it was, knew that it just might be time for her to pick up and run again, she didn't want to admit it. "Who is this?!"
"I'm gonna get you b***h, for throwing that vase at me last time. And this time, this time you're not going to get away. I'll kill you--
Nikki slammed the phone back into the cradle and yanked the cord out of the wall, her face pale and her body shaking as she stared down at the silent black machine. How? How, after she had been so careful in laying a false trail that wouldn't lead back to her, had he found her? She was so tempted to just crawl into bed and wrap herself in blankets, to hide herself from the world.
But Gabriel was here, cooking her dinner and he so didn't need to see her like this. Taking a shaky breath, she rubbed some color back into her cheeks and turned to face him, offering up a small forced smile and a roll of her eyes. "Prank callers," she muttered, hoping he couldn't see the lie in her eyes.

Something was definitely up. Nikki had slammed the phone down like it burned her fingers. Not to mention she yanked the cord out. But he'd play along. "What did they say?" he asked innocently, trying to sound curious rather than suspicious. Maybe it was prank callers, but if so they had said something that freaked her out. Though thankfully whoever it was had steered the conversation away from himself.

Vaguely Nikki wondered when it had become so very easy to lie, to hide things she didn't want to be seen. As she reached up to push away another strand of hair she was surprised to see how violently her hand was shaking. She didn't realize her entire body was shaking like that. Stepping around the paint, Nikki moved forward again and gently took the plates, the cermaic rattling together. "I don't want to repeat it," she said finally, barely managing to set the plates down on the counter without letting them drop. "It was too disturbing..."

acebirchy "Starving." His smile lit up his face, his brown veil of hair hiding his eyes. He leaned against the counter, resting his weight on the balls of his hands. He watched her disappear and return, than disappear again. When she came back, at first Laurence didn't notice, his mind elsewhere. But he quickly snapped back to reality.
"Just water. Thanks," he smiled, standing up. He put his hand on his chin, looking Serena up and down. Eventually, he stopped and smiled. "Serena, you wouldn't mind coming down to work tomorrow, do you," he asked, not revealing his job yet. Serena's looks had given the man inspiration for...a new outfit. "Water, hm?" she said with a smile as she ducked back into the kitchen, fetching a glass of water on ice, and a Coca-Cola on ice for herself. Heading back to the table, she set the glasses down and arranged the food in an orderly fashion before sitting down and joining Laurence. She had to admit... She had dreadfully missed the company of another at the dinner table...
"Work? With you?" she looked up at him curiously as she picked up her napkin and placed in on her lap. "What do you do... Or is that a secret?" she smirked at him, a laugh in her voice as she looked at him expectantly, fork poised in her hand to begin eating.

"Is there any way to track down their number?" Gabriel asked, now really concerned. What could have shaken her up so bad? Inappropriate comments? Death threats? He couldn't think of anything else. Gabriel transferred the sandwiches to the plates, putting them down quickly because they were still hot. "Can you at least give me an idea?" Apparently Nikki wasn't having a good day. First she almost got run over, then she got paint all over herself, and now some creepy phone call... was this normal for her?

Since it has been a good two months the RP has been out of commission I want to start it back up with a new day to save confusion. If this is going to majorly screw up what anyone is doing let me know.

((Hmm...I'm agreeing with you about being easier to start over, The_Doctors_Wife. So, Mandy, I'll just start a new day, saying that Nikki clammed up after the phone call and steered clear of the topic for the rest of the night? It got late and she decided to let him stay the night in the guest room. Let me know if that's not all right and I'll edit my post.))
It was still dark outside when Nikki rolled onto her side and glared at the blurry red numbers of the alarm clock. Four thirty in the morning. God, she hated this. She couldn't stand being tense like this, not after all these years of feeling secure. She couldn't stand the feeling of her body shaking, the idea that she no longer felt safe in the only little niche she had. It just wasn't right. She'd gotten over it, she put it all behind her.
What Nikki just didn't understand was her reaction to that prank call. She knew it wasn't real, knew that it couldn't be possible for him to come after her again. After all, he had no idea where she was. She'd changed her name and made sure to leave no trail. There was no way he could find her.
It was instinctual then, her reaction. Anybody would be freaked out by a phone call like that, even if they didn't have the same past she did. It was rational to be scared, to be upset about hearing such things. It wasn't like she had to explain herself to anyone. No one need know about her past, about her horrible, horrible life before she turned 18. It was her secret, yet she knew it wasn't, not really. Anybody could look it up, could go online and type in her name. Headlines would pop up, tons of them, as well as pictures and medical records that were supposed to be private.
But that wasn't the problem. She knew, deep down, what the problem was. The question though, was could she really trust whoever she told to not hold it against her? How could Nikki really know what a person was like, how was she supposed to recognize the signs of a person loosing their temper? How in the world was she supposed to protect herself from something she didn't understand?
Shuddering, she pushed herself out of the warm comfort of her bed and stumbled into the bathroom for a shower. She sighed as the water pelted against her back and drove into her skin, both wanted and uncomfortable at the same time. The truth was, Nikki didn't know the answer to any of those questions and until she did, she wasn't going to tell anyone about her past. As for the call...well, she'd just explain to Gabriel how she scared easily, even if it wasn't the whole truth.

Gabriel had fallen asleep for probably four hours. He had woken up at about 2:00am, staring at the ceiling. It was unsettling, being somewhere other than Lucy's. Being on a bed instead of a couch or a bunk. Wasn't it more likely that he had dreamed about visiting Nikki, or about meeting her at all? When he was in prison, he had had crazier dreams.
He propped himself up on his elbows when he heard the sound of water running. That was unusual for a dream. He sighed, sat up properly. He threw on his shirt over his undershirt, threw on his shorts. It was impossible for him to sleep anymore, and it appeared Nikki was awake.
Bleary-eyed from lack of sleep, he felt his way to the living room, plopped himself on the sofa. Maybe she'd come in, probably she'd go back to sleep. Who else besides him would even think about walking around this early in the morning? Maybe it'd be better if he just left now before she finished. It would save him from awkwardness, save him from socializing - she probably wouldn't talk to him again.
He got up again, went to the windows. The lights on the street were still on, dimly illuminating the neighborhood. A cat skulked around a trash can someone had neglected to move. He felt like a stray cat himself - belonging nowhere, bound to run at any minute. Once again his eyes flicked to the hallway. He'd better go now, before she realized he was awake. He turned the doorknob; the wary cat scampered off, scared by his presence.

Nikki came out of her room, towel drying her hair as her feet padded against the floors. She wore a pair of grey cheerleading shorts and a blue t-shirt. As she passed the guest room, she noticed the bed was empty and the bathroom door was open, the light off. A little confused, she continued down the hall and came to a stop in the living room, giving her a clear view of the front door. And Gabriel.
Leaning against the corner, Nikki let the towel slip from her head to rest around her shoulders as she watched him. She could see the tenseness in his shoulders and back as his hand rested on the doorknob. She watched him quietly, debating between stopping him or letting him go. Whatever it was that hurt him, it seemed to be just as bad if not worse than her own pain.

[Well, monet, I hope you don't mind. I was thinking that maybe they were watching a movie, and Laurence slipped out, leaving his number on the counter]
Brown eyes were glazed in weariness as long black lashes fluttered open. Light streamed through his open shades, dotting his room in rays of sun. The dark green walls darkened despite the beautiful light, the plush black carpet beneath his feet only a cushion for his landing as he slid out. But no longer was that burden of getting up to live another day. As another person. He'd found something worth living for. Even he was surprised at how much could change in one day.
Laurence pulled open the door to his walk in closet. After much thinking, the male chose something casual, his outfit reflecting his laid-back personality. As he dressed, the brown-haired guy couldn't help but hope that Serena just might call him. After she had fallen asleep while they were watching a movie, he'd slipped out, leaving his number by her phone. His own cell phone was in his pocket, burning a hole through the fabric as he collapsed onto his couch.

The door slowly opened. Gabriel let his hand fall from the doorknob. Wouldn't it be bad to just leave without a word? He glanced back, then did a double take when he saw Nikki standing there. This was awkward. He rubbed the back of his neck. "I uh, didn't see you standing there." Way to state the obvious. "I thought I'd go and pick up some coffee or something," he lied, though now that sounded like a very good idea. Except... wasn't it way too early in the morning?

She raised a brow at his comment, before shrugging. "Feel free. Though I doubt there's anything open this early in the morning." Turning away from him, she made her way to the kitchen, avoiding the large, semi-solid puddle of paint. "Of course, it'd probably be a waist of time, seeing as I have coffee or something here." Glancing at him, she offered up a small smile. "If you're uncomfortable here with me, then you can leave. It's your choice. I'm not going to hold you prisoner because I think you're hot."

Had she seriously just called him hot? If Gabriel was eating anything, he probably would have choked. As he wasn't, he just turned sharply to look at her. "Wh-what?" he sputtered, his face a picture of disbelief. Then remembering the rest of what she said as he made his way into the kitchen after her, "I'm just not used to..." he waved his hands around, trying to come up with something slightly less weird than talking to someone his age for once, "changes. I guess. Something like that. Putting myself out there?" He leaned against a counter. "I don't typically... talk to people that are..." Hm. There wasn't really one word that summed up Nikki. He managed a nervous laugh. "I really have no clue what I'm saying anymore." Was he really this messed up? Now that she was here, his fight or flight reaction had calmed slightly. But still, he had to get back to Lucy and Marisol. He watched her rummage for coffee stuff. But not right now. Maybe after some coffee.

Nikki smiled to herself when he turned to look at her, before setting about to make coffee. As he spoke, she listened, noting his first sentence, though hard to decipher, made sense. She'd been like that at first as well, especially when still adjusting to living on her own and then to having a room mate. Everything was hard if you had past. Just from looking at him, she could tell he did. Once she had the coffee set and running, she pushed herself up onto the counter. "I'd say I understand, but you probably wouldn't believe me, not until I told you my story."
Turning her eyes to the window about the sink, she seemed to drift off into herself for a moment, serene looking and yet almost...childish. When her eyes drifted back to his, there was a small spark of amusement visible. "I'd also say lets just get it over with and have sex, but I don't quite thing we're to that level. So, I'll just say this: You tell me your story and I'll tell you mine." As Nikki studied him, she wondered what had overcome her, since when had she been such a brash person? But then again, after the hell the first eighteen years of her life had been, Nikki had learned not to take such things, or people for granted. If a situation opened itself up to you, then obviously you were meant to do something with said situation.
