Name: Arch-Magus Lazarus (Laz for short) (25) Attack: 0 Defense: 2 Combat Dice: 1d3 (1) Magic: 8 Equip: 3 Life: 15 (3) Abilities: Skilled Caster x2 (~8~) Items: Potion of Strength, Imp Toast, Heart of the Crypt(c 0/3), Force Field (c 3/3) Spells: Overblast, Energy Burst, Lesser Heal, Heal Actions: Power Up
Suddenly the shadows begin to shift, and swirl. from out of the gloom, a seamingly young mage appears, draped in a red-flowing robe. Hanging from a chain around his neck is a small metallic heart, and on his left hand is a metal glove. The glove hums lightly, and has one button, and a three-sectioned window. Through the window, three lights shine through. The mage looks physically young, but as if he has lived a much longer life. He bows low to the surrounding party, and smiles. "My name is Arch-Magus Lazarus, The Fallen, and I offer my spells as assistance to your cause."

Vincent turns in the doorway, seeing the young man as he "phases" into existance. Vincent raises an eyebrow before addressing him, "Greetings my "young" friend...Wait...what the?!? Where did Gerbo go? That gnome is going to give me a heart attack one of these days..."

Fury looks surprised by the sudden appearance of Lazarus, then confounded by the puzzling disappearance of Gerbo. "This just keeps getting stranger with every passing moment. Oh well, welcome to our little foray Lazarus. It is good to journey with you once again. Hopefully you won't feel the strange urge to disappear yourself at some later date." Moving across the hallway to the other door Fury says,"Well? Shall we try door number two?"

Perrian blinked. "What the- What in the world is happening here!?! Who the heck are you!?! Wha-...." Perrian said in shock of the appearance of the new person. "Oh....sorry...my apoligizes. I shouldn't have acted like how I did. Well, Arch-Magus Lazarus, I am Perrian, an angelic healer who is a servant of Shiva." Perrian bowed to the new adventurer. He then turned back to Fury. "Well, I guess. Lets try the next door."

The opposite door swings open at your touch, revealing a well-appointed and carefully maintained bedroom, obviously belonging to the late Rufus and Regina. The room is filled with personal memento's of the odd couple's past, things that would only hold value within their memory. Dominating the center of the large room is a 4-poster bed of Colossal comfort. The Bed stands several feet above the floor on sturdy legs, revealing a terrible, cloying darkness beneath it. Staring back at you from beneath the bed, two gleaming eyes observe your actions. Whatever it is, it seems content to watch as long as you do not attempt to approach.

*Djanni blinks at the new person, torn between greeting the new comer and keeping her bile under control at the sight of the bed and what its monstrous proportions imply*
"Nice to...*hurk*...meet you..I'm Djanni, the, er, Cursed."

Lazarus smiled lightly at all the friendly greetings. He had an innate ability to learn all about their quest, and was quite caught up on everything that had occured. "Master Gerbo had other matters to attend to, and the mystical forces that be asked me to take his place. I am glad that you accept me, and hope we can deal with the matter at hand quite readilly."
With that, Lazarus followed everyone into the next room, and glanced around, studying everything around the room, peeking in dressers, chest/hope-chests, bookshelves, and anything that is not the bed.

Perrian nodded. "Seems like we should explore the rest of the room before even attempting under the bed, we don't wish to disturb whatever is underneath. But I'm guessing that, unfortunately, that is where the staff is." Perrian said and started to look around the room, avoiding the bed.

Vincent, also agreeing with Master Perrian's analysis, also begins a futile examination of the room.

Your search reveals nothing of value, as you suspected; merely trinkets and baubles that may have held some value to the previous tenants. A dry chuckle can be heard coming from beneath the bed, as if whatever lurks within knows exactly what it is you hope to find...

Lazarus sighs lightly, looking at the people he has joined up with. "Well, it seams we shall have to speak, or fight, or tame the beast underneath the bed. Perhaps one of you fine front-line fighters would do the honors, just incase it's hostile?"
Lazarus stepped back, his fingers quickly motioning the signs, in preperation for his spell-casting.

Fury looks at the glowing eyes, not quite sure how to approach. "Well, if it's okay with you Master Perrian, I'll step up and try. I've probably got the best defense right now so, if it reacts aggressively, I stand to take less damage. At least theoretically. Shall I make the attempt?"
(I also have the choice of sending Dancing Sword. Since I still have the "My Friend" ability to use, he won't take any damage, and it should reveal the monster's capabilities without anyone taking damage.)

If you would like, I will give you the following special ruling for the purposes of this dungeon;
Study Opponent: If combat has not been previously engaged, you may take a round to study your opponent to learn it's capabilities in combat. If you fail the attempt, combat begins immediately with no further pre-combat interaction.
Option A: Individual Study; individual chosen rolls 1d6, 2 or better for successful study roll. If roll is failed, must face the opponent for one round in single combat.
Option B: Group Study; Leader rolls 1d6, 4 or better for successful study roll.

Perrian nodded. "Fury, you may to study the opponent if you wish." Perrian said, staying a little distance away from the bed to insure that he would not get attacked if the monster attacked."
