Ian wasn't so dense as to miss the cues that Emerwyn didn't want to talk about her illness. So Ian decided to change the subject - what to talk about.... His mind started searching for something to talk about, anything to talk about. "Um..." he couldn't find anything....He gave a small chuckle then realized that his arm was still on her shoulder. He in his social ineptness wondered if it would be more awkward to leave his arm there or remove it. Then his problem was resolved, his arm began to itch. Removing his arm from her shoulder he went to the nearest tree and began to rub his arm viciously against the bark until the tingling was resolved.

Emerwyn very easily noticed that Ian felt uncomfortable. She blamed herself; she shouldn't have acted so melancholy. She kept making people feel upset on her behalf.
Now she felt awkward. And she hated that. Being a writer, Emerwyn was rarely at a loss for words. She searched for topics. "So..." she looked up at the trees. "I really love the scenery here." Oh my GOD, woman, what's happened to you?! "It's quite a stark contrast to those drab buildings." And then put a damper on everything... "I really love trees." You're getting better... "I missed seeing them, living in the city for so long. Of course, there was Central Park. But that place depressed me. They looked closed in. Like a tree museum. Only the memory of trees. Something that was once there, but is now gone." Emerwyn recalled a poem she had written about just that.

Ian looked interested. Emerwyn was so much better at starting conversation than he was. "I love the trees too. I hated it when I moved to the city, but what is ironic is that I could never bring myself to leave the city after that. And now that I'm here I find myself in the forest a lot. Probably the side effect of turning into a cervid." He nodded thoughtfully, he was sure he was turning into a cervid now. He had been too busy to notice that he had a definate cervid-like tail before. He flicked the said tail in confirmation. "Cute little fluffy tail." He grinned impishly, "I belong in the forest."

Good, it worked."It looks like our situations were pretty similar.
What's a cervid? I guess that means you've figured out what you are turning into?"
Emerwyn laughed when Ian flicked his little tail. She hadn't seen it before.

"Yeah," Ian agreed, laughing with Emerwyn as he flicked his tail a bit more. "A cervid is the creatures with antlers that drop off in the spring. Deer and moose are the two most common cervids though there are many more. With this tail I think I'm a deer of some kind. Moose don't have tails quite like this." He frowned at his fingers, "I really don't want to lose use of my hands if the transformation extends that far."

"A deer? That's sweet." Emerwyn thought about the effects of the transformation with Ian's concern. "That would be terrible. If that happened to me, I wouldn't be able to write anymore. But who knows-" Emerwyn tried to brighten up. "Maybe I'll turn into a monkey! Then I could write with my tail."

Ian snorted with laughter. "Are monkey's tails flexible enough to do that? I knew they were prehensile, but enough so to hold a writing utensil, or strong enough to use a keyboard? I don't want you to be a monkey, they throw poop." Ian had a sudden inspiration that would have been better left unsaid, but Ian was not very good at thinking before he spoke. "It would be cool if you were a deer too." He shut his mouth promptly after that. He shouldn't have said that, curse him being unable to keep his mouth shut. What if she suspected something from that?

"I honestly don't know," Emerwyn said, trying to speak through her laughter at the poo comment.
She must not have caught what Ian feared she would, for she nodded in agreement. "Yeah. It'd be nice to be able to connect with someone. It'll be easier to get through the changes."

Ian smiled again. It made him happy to see others cheerful, and Emerwyn must not have suspected anything from what he said. "When you change you can know that I'll be around to talk to, if that helps any. And it would be nice to have someone who knew almost exactly what was happening to you." He wanted to grab Emerwyn's hand, but was smart enough this time to resist the impulse. "You wouldn't mind if I ate in front of you would you? I have a craving for some leaves." He was a bit embarassed, but his rumbling stomach was starting to get annoying.

"Thank you." Emerwyn smiled.

"No, not at all. In fact," she sensed he felt a little uncomfortable again, so she shared a bit of information of her own. "I found myself... chewing on bark the other day. It wasn't half bad."

Ian nodded and plucked a leaf from a nearby shrub, taking a bite and beginning to chew. He looked of into the distance as if pondering. "Leaves are pretty good. I also seem to really like apples and tomatoes. "Maybe I should be heading back to my duplex now. I have to think about things." What he didn't say was that those 'things' were about Emerwyn.

Emerwyn nodded in understanding. "You go ahead. Thanks for talking with me. It really means a lot. And... I never got to really thank you for standing by me... the other day."

Ian smiled at Emerwyn warmly. "It was no problem. That's what friends are for." He gave a wave, "Remember that you can always visit me at my duplex if you need anything." He started off back towards the aforementioned duplex.

Emerwyn smiled and waved with a nod of her head.
He was a really sweet guy. And she laughed quietly to herself as she watched Ian's tail as he walked away.
She turned away, and leaned up against a tree. She sighed, then got a hold of herself. What are you thinking? Not this again. Emerwyn slid down the tree trunk and broke off a piece of bark again. She munched on it, actually biting into it, hoping that the crunches would block out her thoughts.

Pyroth Ignatius

Pyroth was more restless than he had been lately. Feeling time slipping away from him with the arrival of the next injections for Cassidy and Greer he wanted to see the whole island, enjoy himself as much as possible before he too fell foul of whatever fate awaited him. Today had brought him back to the jungle where he had spent many a night's sleepwalking. It loomed, practically daring him to enter, but he wasn't afraid of it. The sea he didn't like, anything on land was fair game.

However, he didn't want to head in unprepared, so he decided to take a wander around the perimeter of the dark forest, get his bearings before he went in.

It certainly was very dense foliage in there.
