"The forest was like she had never seen before, it was lush with greenery, something not seen back home as the sun often bleached the plants," Cindy explained, "And as she wandered throuhg the forest trying to find her ball, she came upon a lake. It's waters crystal clear and so deep that she did not know it if even had a bottom."

Donovan was half tempted to tell Aliya that rear would be a better word, but he really shouldn't be encouraging her. It would be like encouraging Lin to swear, even though for some reason the little girl was quite good about it.

"See you within two week or so," he nodded as he rode off.

Taking note of the sun and recalling where he was headed.

"Bye!" Aliya waved. "See you in a few weeks!" She hopped off her father's back and ran after Donovan, laughing. "Beat you to the trees!" she giggled, and took off like the wind, her long hair streaming out behind her, her long legs blurs as she ran.

Adonai rested his chin on his hands and smiled. It was a nice story, even if it was a little bit scary ... what he understood of it anyways.

"Yots of watah?" he asked Cindy.

"Lots of water, so much you would probably couldn't swim across it," Cindy replied, "Well... unless you were a really, really good swimmer."

Or a mer, was her thought, but she didn't want to get into that quite yet.

Donovan chuckled as he sped up the horse a bit, he didn't need to run it to the ground before even getting there, but enough to humour her. As he passed the trees and was on his way towards the points given to him. This should be an interesting solo trip for him.

Aliya laughed and stopped as she reached the trees, climbing up into the first tree that she came to. From the lowest branch, she waved at Donovan as he disappeared into the trees.

Adonai grinned at Cindy. He was a good swimmer - or so he thought. Of course, all his mother would let him do was splash around while either she or his father was holding him.

Ulani put one arm around Ulrich's neck and leaned on him, then looked up at him and smiled. "So," she sighed cheerfully. "What do you think?"

Ulrich grinned back, then leaned over and kissed her. "I think he'll be just fine," he replied. Then he tugged on her hair playfully. "Come on, let's go check on Cindy and Adonai." And he twirled her around and led her towards the house.

"She had never seen that much water before," Cindy murmured, "Because the floating island wasn't that big, so at most it had a river and a pond, but nothing else. As she stared into the lake, she thought she saw some sort of shadow under the surface, and bubbles rose from up that shadow."

Adonai was completely entranced by the story, and he didn't even see his parents come back into the house.

Ulani and Ulrich, for their part, just smiled and passed them by. Ulani had some cleaning to get to, and washing, and Ulrich was planning on doing a bit of woodwork. Both of them got the things that they needed and headed back outside.

As she passed Cindy on her way out, Ulani knelt down and tapped her on the shoulder.

"I'll be outside, behind the house," she told her softly. "If you get tired of him or want to do something else, or need anything, come get me."

Cindy nodded absently at that, she figured after she finished the story, even though she had no idea where she was going with it. Honestly she didn't, she turned back to Adonai, noticing he was quite interested.

"She stared, and stared, and wondered where those bubbles were coming from. The shadow seemed to get closer and closer until out from the water came the top of a boy's head with his eyes peering back at her curiously."

Adonai blinked. "Boy inna watah?" he asked. "How a boy inna watah? I go inna watah an' 'a watah go in me."

He didn't like choking on the water, and he was eager to improve on his swimming skills so that he wouldn't.

"Because he was a special kind of boy," Cindy explained, "You see, the boy was just a boy like you with two arms and a chest, and a face with two eyes, two ears and a nose and a mouth, but he didn't have feet or legs. Instead of legs he had a fish's tail with dark red scales."

Adonai blinked again. What a strange story this was turning out to be.

"Fishy boy?" he asked, confused now.

Cindy giggled, "Yes, he was a fishy boy, he was a mer, all mers are fishy from the waist down and they can go anywhere in the water, so they don't take water in, even though they're in water."

She smiled thoughtfully.

"He was curious as to the stranged winged creature near his lake, because he had never seen an angel before."

Adonai nodded and tried to think through what Cindy was saying. It was all confusing to him, especially considering that he didn't know some of the words.

"Fishy boy ... buhdie girl ... go inna watah?"

"Well... birdie girl doesn't know how to swim," Cindy smiled a bit, "But she did ask the boy if he had seen her ball, because he might have you never know."

At least she wasn't too badly at the moment, she hoped.
