On Gaia, I just use asterisks to indicate an action *laughs*
But I'd -love- to use the hyphens to emphasize a point, but MLA format tells me no.

Alright... it's still strange to me too. I'm with Scoot on this. The only time I've seen double asterisks is when an *action* is being taken on the internet.
