That's an interesting back story. Did they just do it because they were assholes or was there a reason for getting rid of the shrooms?
If we were on a level playing field it would be a lot harder for me to just eat up the mushrooms and one-up you just like that. And since the bugs live inside my body who's to say that the spores began to take them over while they were inside me and ultimately make them eat me from the inside out?
xp It would be an interesting dynamic if you did choose to go with that character
sweatdrop neutral well.....I don't know quite what would drive the two clans to fight that much, only the fact that its a semi-predator cycle where the insect eats the fungus and the fungus eats the bug. Don't know. Perhaps an Fungal member was turned off by the Aburame clan coldness to those around them that caused the fight, or maybe it was the Enoki clan doing something that angered the Aburame clan. Who knows.
As for the idea of what happens if an Aburame swarm gets infected insects returning to the body, well I really doubt they would get angry with you and begin to eat you.
Remembers the scene from the mummy, where scarabs eating a man alive, always haunted by that scene emotion_0A0 .
Usually in nature, insects can tell when a cordycep fungus is present in an insect. In the case of ants, they attack and force the insect away from the hive to stop them from spreading the fungus to the rest of the hive. I would see it the same way with the Kikiachu, as they use the human body as a hive and would do everything in their power to protect it. In most cases, the cordyep would infect about 100 or less of the insects and those infected would try to spread the cordycep to the rest of the hive, but because they are infected, they are weak and would be easy to cull from the rest of the swarm.
The thing that makes it dangerous is that the Cordycep jutsu does two bursts of spores over time. The first burst comes from when it is first grown from the mycelium, what I would call the "Starter Burst", and a second time, which i would call the "Contagion burst", when the fungus matures inside of a infected individual. If the swarm was attacking at full power and the development burst happened, the swarm would be thrown into chaos, with the swarm turning upon itself. The swarm could then either retreat back to the hive and try to protect the hive from infected insects or it could try to cull the infection quickly by killing off the insects before they can hit the contagion burst.
The only real trouble and terror is when the swarm is out in force and the infected have managed to hit the contagion burst. Then the real danger begins as those 100 or so bugs that where infect are now each producing about 100 spores per each insect, leading up to about 10,000 infected insects or the whole swarm, if it is present. That is the only true way that the swarm would be wiped out.
But then, that then brings up another question. What happens if the hive finds itself infected, as the jutsu doesn't only infect insects but humans, beasts and plant life as well.
twisted In that case, I think the swarm would be smart and know that hive has been infected with a virus. But instead of ending up like that scene from the mummy where a guy was eaten alive by scarabs, the hive would be smart about it. By trying to eat the host, they would also be eating the fungus that infects the person as well, thus spreading it to them. In most cases, they would leave the hive as quickly as possible, as with wasps when their hives are infected with mildew.
So I wouldn't worry about being eaten alive by your bugs.
