She's right... what the hell is wrong with me? Nina thought to herself, getting tired of being in her own skin. "Krystal, just... try to stick the attack out! Retaliate with a Thunder Wave!" The Pokemon turned her head to look at her trainer, with an entirely confounded look on her face-- it seemed to read, EXCUSE me? You want me to get hit by that thing?

That was how it ended up, though-- too distracted by the idiocy of her trainer, Krystal had turned her head back to look towards her opponent, only to be blasted in the head by the Ice Beam. And it had hurt. She fell on the ground, but was able to recover, a chilling feeling coming over her body.

She didn't want to get hit by that again, so she did, in fact, perform the move her trainer had originally issued her. A weak jolt of electricity was shot at the Vaporeon, too weak to inflict any damage, but enough to cause a status effect.

Maven blinked a few times looking up at Keegan as he cheered Kasiya on. She put away her sketch book and watched as the Ice attack did its damage. Maven winced as the dragon pokemon got hit with the force.

"GO KASIYA!!!" Maven got caught up in the action and yelled as loud as she could. Her scream scared her and she lowered her head and let her hair fall forward hiding her blush.

He stiffled a laugh as he watched Dragonair get hit with the Ice Beam. Part of him wished that he had an Ice-type whenever he had battled against her. That would've made the battle against her even easier than it had been. Kilik craned his neck to see what was going to happen next. He was very interested in the battle now for two reasons alone.

One: Nina was losing.
Two: Kasiya was winning.

He smirked then heard the girl yell out for Kasiya. Kilik looked over and shook his head lightly, turning his attention back to the battle.

"Try to avoid it," Kasiya stated firmly, glancing over at Keegan and winking at him. She caught sight of the girl sitting next to him, feeling even more confident that someone she didn't even know was cheering for her. Making a mental note to thank her later, Kasiya turned back to Ariel as Krystal let loose her Thunder Wave. Even though she had plenty of time to recover from her Ice Beam attack, Ariel wasn't quite able to avoid the spread of weak electrical energy that came towards her. It struck her tail, but being such an important part of her body, it traveled up her spine and spread down around her four legs. "Fight it, Ariel!" Kasiya told the Vaporeon. "You're strong! We both are! Let's prove it!"

Ariel nodded, and grit her teeth, fighting against the paralysis that threatened to immobilize her. Kasiya was right! They both were strong! A bit of strain from fighting her status ailment apparent on her face, Ariel studied the Dragonair, making note of her movements before the Water-type opened her mouth and fired a well-aimed Aurora Beam - being sure to aim where the Dragon would be, not where she was.

No, no, no!!! Nina thought furiously, her eyes burning from tears that began to well up. "Krystal, please! Get out of the way! Just... do something, please!" It was clear that the strains of the battle were getting to her-- the consistency of people cheering for Kasiya, Nina's stupid mistakes, the horrible nagging voice of Kilik that she kept hearing...

Despite Krystal's efforts to move away from the beam, it seemed as if Ariel had pre-planned where to shoot the attack, as it connected dead-on with the dragon. A light hue of red flashed over her body for a moment, signifying her attack rating had fallen a little bit. Annoyed, Krystal twirled around in a coil, generating a quantity of electrical energy inside of her body. A few moments later, she sprang towards Ariel, loosing a Thunderbolt.

Keegan could think of nothing to say, so he stood silently, watching and waiting, feeling the thundering of his heart pounding up against his ribcage. A part of him wanted the battle to last a while longer, so he could enjoy watching it that much longer, but the rest of him wanted it to end, so he could enjoy watching Kasiya show off her latest badge.

Althena was standing on her seat as well, clapping her hands together and singing to herself happily. She remembered the pretty human that they were watching now, mainly because she remembered the Vaporeon she'd battled alongside a few hours ago. "Psy! Duck! Psy! Duuuuck!" cheered the little yellow Pokemon, clapping in time to her cheers.

Kasiya frowned a bit, turning her gaze from Nina. I'm sorry, my friend, but this is part of what being a gym leader is. There are always going to be many more losses than wins, believe me, I know. Kasiya had seen her own father loose approximately eighty five percent of the battles he was challenged to, and rarely the hulking man let it get to him. In fact, he'd often told her that he was proud to send winning trainers on their way.

Ariel grit her teeth and braced herself - she knew she was in for a super effective hit. She felt the electricity course through her body and she cringed. The Leftovers charm around her neck started to glow slightly, restoring a small chunk of the stamina she'd just lost. "End it, Ariel." Kasiya said sharply. "Ice Beam."

Once more managing to fight off her paralysis even as extra static bolts clung to her body, the Vaporeon repeated her attacking process, watching Krystal very closely before letting fly her powerful Ice Beam.

Kilik shook his head. This was it. Ariel was healthy enough to survive the Thunderbolt and still be able to unleash another Ice Beam in Dragonair's face. The boy sighed. No matter what Nina did, unless by a twist of fate that Ariel's attacks all missed, there was nothing to stop Kasiya's inevitable victory. Kilik stretched lightly, enjoying the show. He listened to Kasiya's final words before closing his eyes.

He heard the wind howl in the Gym and he listened to the sound of ice cracking as the beam flew.

The dragon bolted away from Ariel as fast as she could, after having struck her, to avoid the potential additional damage. Despite her speed, however, she felt the extreme frigidity of the Ice Beam nearing her body. It inched closer, closer, closer still, the frost was nigh upon her, and then--

Nina held up an Ultra Ball, recalling her Pokemon. She would sooner throw a match than watch helplessly as her Pokemon fell before her again.

Third time's the charm, Nina thought horribly to herself, recalling her losses to Kilik and Mike. Why did I bother? I had known it would turn out like this from the moment that she stepped in my door. Her eyes burned some more, and her face grew wet. She hated this. And she had to face Kasiya in this state, in front of several other people. She started to walk forward, hands digging around in her shorts pockets.
Raimundo and Whitney, who were on the sidelines, distanced a bit from the bleachers, looked on disdainfully. "Oh no," Whitney whispered, knowing exactly how Nina was feeling.

"C..." Nina's attempt at a word fused into a sigh. "C... co..." Another sigh. She bit her bottom lip, sniffled, and tried again. "Con...gratulations, Kasiya. You beat me. It's not like there was any question-- you've been a far greater trainer than I have since day one. And, don't you dare try to deny it; the both of us know that it's true. It's just, I'm willing to admit it, while you may not be, due to your own modest and polite nature."

The girl shook her head a little. Great, I'm crying in front of Kilik. That gives him something else he can razz me about, the girl thought. "Aside from having talent, you've got friends, a posse of cheerleaders over there, a moderately normal personality, and a bond with Pokemon that overrides any psychic bond I could ever hope to hold. You're just... a better person than I am. All of those factors are what caused you to win today-- that, plus the fact that I couldn't battle my way out of a paper bag, even if the bag was already torn and open." She took her hands out of her pockets, and held in one the winnings that were merited-- a small wad of money, a TM disc, and a round badge. She handed the items to the girl, awaiting to see how she would respond.

Kilik stood up and stretched his arms up into the air, placing his hands behind his head. "That was interesting. Shame I didn't have a soda and popcorn," he shook his head and walked towards the Gym's door, looking over his shoulder at Nina, Kasiya, and the others. "You tried, right, Nina? That's all that..." he sniggered, "matters. Sooner or later..." he shrugged and placed his pointer finger on his forehead.

"You'll just have to stand at the front of the Gym and hand out your badges. It'd save a bunch of people's time." Kilik slipped his hand into his pocket and waved over his shoulder at the group, "Toodle-oo!" he called out, taking steps towards the door. When it slid open, he stepped outside into the night. The door closed behind him and he yawned. The boy thought for a moment, then got the idea.

"I'll trade out Sudowoodo and Lairon, rest up and start training hard tomorrow morning." He made his way towards the Pokemon Center, humming to himself the entire time.

For some reason, it didn't feel like a victory. Kasiya sighed, and looked over at Ariel, who was struggling to get back over to her trainer, but could barely take a step forward. She recalled the Vaporeon into her Pokeball, pulling the green bandanna from her head and stuffing it into her pocket as she clipped Ariel's Pokeball back into the first slot. She stared at the items in Nina's hands for a moment, and sighed heavily. "Oh Nina," she stated softly, shaking her head and stepping forward. "Just ignore Kilik...he's full of himself." Not caring if Nina would have rather levitated her into a wall rather than face what she was going to say, Kasiya gently put her arms around her friend and hugged her, causing the money, TM and badge all to clatter to the floor. "I don't care what you say, those things aren't true." She sniffled a bit, hating to see her friends down on themselves, especially when she was the cause of it. "I don't think you're ready to be a gym leader just yet," she went on. "I know that both you and I haven't been trainers for very long, and it's unfair to throw you into such a position without the proper experience or training. You should resume traveling, and collecting badges of your own." Kasiya knew what she was saying was pretty lame, but she didn't care. She pulled back from Nina, wiping her own tear-streaked cheeks with the back of her hand. She went to say something else, but it came out kind of garbled and impossible to understand. The girl gave a sheepish, pathetic laugh and shrugged, shaking her head and staring at her shoes.

Keegan watched Kilik walk out of the gym, shaking his head slowly. "And I thought I was a jerk," he mumbled, holding up Althena's Poke Ball and recalling her into it. After the battle had stopped, the young Psyduck had fallen asleep.

He made a move to head out to congratulate Kasiya, but stopped, seeing the raw emotion flowing from both trainers, and he sighed. "It must be tough to be a gym leader," he murmured, frowning, as all the celebratory feelings he'd been building up were suddenly gone, as if sucked into the depths of a black hole. Straightening himself up, he chose to continue anyways, stepping over the short guardrail and heading out towards Kasiya.

When he had finished counting Dante placed all the coin's in his coin case and stretched. He knew he had a lot of training to do, especially with Levi and Moeder. However he had a feeling that Bahamut would be evolving soon. She was much more powerful then she was when she had first evolved, and he would love to have her evolved strength on his team. Sighing he wondered what he was going to do when he got his Porygon even. He was really only confident in Apollo, Bahamut and Kenny, those three always seemed to pull out all right. Shiva was showing the most improvement, she was becoming stronger and more determined with every battle. Levi was very young and even the battle's that he tried to put her in she usually lost, though last time she had taken out that Qwilfish, though ended up fainting as well. Moeder was just to new to his team, while she did seem powerful, she just didn't click together like his other pokemon did. Loosing Meowth from his lineup had done a lot of damage to his team, still he did not regret letting the cat pokemon go. Running a hand through his hair he started to go back to his thought's when Bahamut's screech and tackle/latch onto his arm, interrupted him. The small dragon like pokemon looked up at him through large eye's and a bright expression on her face.

Seeing his happy pokemon Dante couldn't help but smile at her. Seeing her trainer looking more cheerful the dragonfly like pokemon buzzed her wing's happily. "For some reason you just seem to be a cheerful pokemon." Looking down at his watch Dante noticed that he still had a bit more time on his break. "Hey let's say that me and you go back to the arena and have a small training match with Moeder? We need to see all of what she can do." For once Dante wished he had a pokedex, it would be helpful to just be able to look up her moves. Resolving to get one when he was done with this Dante and Bahamut headed back into the arena. The light's were not as bright as they were before and they seemed to be just on a normal level.

Nina wasn't expecting that type of reaction-- after all, she had been much less than kind during the battle. She felt a bunch of tears spill down her face when her friend hugged her; after all the things she'd said and done, Kasiya was always able to find some way to forgive her. She felt she really didn't deserve that type of friend. She sniffled, hearing two pairs of footsteps coming from one direction, and one pair from the bleachers.

Nina chuckled a little at Kasiya's attempt at a sentence; she was kind of used to the dorky girl doing things like that by now. Crouching down, Nina picked up the girl's rewards, getting up and looking to her friend. "I didn't mean to be such a pessimist, Kass. You've got those qualities I mentioned before... and you've got this trait of unprecidented friendliness to you. You truly do deserve these things." Handing the money, TM, and Marshbadge to her friend, she kept in mind what Kasiya said-- maybe she should get more badges of her own before she battled anyone else.

She turned her head to see Keegan approaching-- it had been such a long time since she'd seen him. She and Sabrina had abandoned him in Celadon's Department Store a long time ago, and she never did apologize. "Listen, you guys, I know you've both probably had a long ride out here, and it's late... How's about I let you two spend the night? There's a dormitory area in one of the back rooms of the Gym. It can be my way of trying to make up for acting like such a baby." She chuckled a bit, wiping her eyes, and felt a hand on either of her shoulders coming from behind-- it was Whitney and Rai.

She was feeling better now, and everything Kilik said on his way out of the Gym didn't faze her in the least.

Kasiya could think of nothing to say in response to the kind things Nina said about her. She grinned sheepishly, mainly because they were true - she held a grudge like a sieve held water. "Thanks Nina, that would be great," she finally said, accepting her winnings and putting them into her pockets. "And don't worry about it. I'm used to things heating up during a battle, like emotions. Remember all those awful things my dad said to me during my gym match with him?" Spotting Keegan out of the corner of his eye, she gave him a small wave, smiling brightly through the few tears that remained in her eyes. "Well?" she asked once he had reached her. "Did you manage to watch all of that one or not?"
