Atem held back a sob of his own; now wasn't the time for grief. Turning his attention back towards Bakura, there was a look of pure anger on his face. "Let's continue the game." He growled, voice dripping with hatred.

"You still are losing the game, even if my hikari is dead." Bakura snapped back, supressing a shudder at the pharaoh's rage. He knew, though, that with the risk of Ryou dying was out of the way, Atem wouldn't hesitate to defeat him now.

Which was the truth. Atem easily watched as the cage around Ryou's body continued to shrink further, Bakura starting to lose his nerve. But Bakura won a hand here or there, and they were about tied later on, Yugi cowering in his own cage, the wall mere centimeters from Ryou's body, though it didn't really matter. Atem held his breath; this draw would show the winner of the game.

Bakura felt beads of sweat appearing on his forhead; this was it. He'd get to defeat Atem this time, he was sure. Glancing up as the pharaoh flipped his card, he scoffed at the monster. "A kuriboh?! Ha! That has to be the weakest monster in your deck! Anything in my deck could defeat that. I don't even have to draw." But as though to prove his point, Bakura did anyway, smirking as he flipped the top card from his deck.

Now it was Atem's turn to smirk. "Well, look at that. Change of Heart." He sneered at Bakura, looking down at the card the robber just played. "By your own rules, magic cards automatically lose. Suprising that it was Ryou's personal favorite as well." Tears now came as Atem watched smugly as Bakura jumped to his feet in disbelief.

Bakura didn't have enough time to scream something at the pharaoh; no parting words, no threats, nothing. The Shadow Realm tore at his being, his soul, seeking out the object to place it in. The realm chose the Change of Heart card, forcing his soul into it. The picture washed away, an image of Bakura taking its place, much like how Pegasus had done in his tournament. The energy cages disappeared, along with the surface they had been playing on.

Atem managed to grab his deck afterwards, but Bakura's fell to the ground, the cards scattering everywhere. He sorted through them for a moment, then found the soul card, pocketing it before suddenly being embraced by Yugi, who was doing his best not to cry. Atem hugged his hikari back before swiftly making his way over towards Ryou's body, which was lying still on the cold ground of the Shadow Realm. Atem closed his eyes, reciting a prayer for the dead in his mind. Glancing around the area, he nodded slightly at Khalid before bending over slightly, picking up the boy's body bridal-style.

Khalid got his message, and the Shadow Realm quickly faded away. He gasped sharply in pain, for he didn't have a source like the Millennium Items to dip into for energy. He had to convert his own life energy to get them back to Kira's home. "What a waste of a life..." He muttered, shaking his head as he watched Atem carefully lay Ryou's body out on the couch, arranging the boy gracefully.

Kira was beside malik so she reached down and put her hand on his shoulder fighting back her own tears. She soon started crying silently as well.
Malik didn't even feel Kira's touch, the deep pain he had felt when he thought Ishizu had died crept back up in infinite amount.

Kira walked over to the couch tears still running down her cheaks "Atleast he's at peace now...no more pain...and he can see.."

Ishizu stared in shock at the body. Tears silently trickled out of her eyes, but she didn't seem aware of them. Murmuring something, she nodded her head slightly to agree with Kira. "It shouldn't have ended like that..." She mumbled, stroking Malik's hair. An anger ripped through her, directed towards Bakura, which was useless because she knew he was locked away.

Yugi hung back; he wanted dearly to go towards the couch, apologize, say good-bye (though it was a little too late), anything, but the fear of his friend being dead was griopping him. He felt cold; this couldn't be happening. What would the others say? Would the kids from school even care? Brushing aside those thoughts, Yugi swept the back of his hand across his cheek, wiping away his tears, letting out a choked sob.

Atem suddenly found that he had little strength. His head spun, and was feeling light. Turning towards Yugi, he remembered that his hikari was wearing the Millennium Puzzle, which had happened automatically during the game. His body dissolved in the air as he sent his spirit to the puzzle, doing this all silently. The soul card fluttered to the floor, which was quickly snatched up by Khalid.

Khalid seemed the only one not crying. Looking around the room coldly, he tucked the card into his own pocket. The trip to the Shadow Realm seemed to have healed him a little; it looked as though he had more life than before.

Malik buried his face deeper into Ishizu's clothes, the tears still flowing.

"Happier?" Yugi asked, his voice barely more than a squeak. "Happier?! God, he's dead. You think that if we could go to wherever dead people are--" Yugi said this carefully, aware that some of the Egyptians in the room might believe that there was a land of dead, after life, while others believed in Heaven or hell, "He'd never want to be alive again? That despite what he'd have to go through, he'd never want to see the outside, or--or--" Yugi ran out of words, or breath, or had just been blurting out something random. Promptly bursting into tears again, Yugi buried his face in his hands.

(Okay, here's an idea I had. We fast forward a few months in the future, after all of this. Like in spring/early summer. The Ishtars and Khalid go to Egypt, where Khalid seems to completly vanish from their lives. Atem, Yugi, and Kira stay in Domino, where the boys see Kira every now and then at first, before she seems to lock herself away entirely from outside life. We could have the Ishtars come to Domino for either a visit or to stay again, and everybody meets up. Then we'll just go from there.)

Yugi drummed his fingers along the counter, bored out of his mind. Atem was upstairs in the bedroom, sulking, as he did lately. It seemed routine for his yami to be doing that. Day after day... It was hard for Yugi to drag Atem outside to see the light of day every now and them. Even the boy's usual cheer got dampened around Atem. Going over to the door of the game shop, Yugi flipped the sign to read closed. It wasn't really as though people were around then. Stomping upstairs to alert Atem of his approach, Yugi burst into his room to find Atem sititng on the floor, surronded by duel cards.

"Hm? Oh, hello, Yugi," Atem greeted absently, not even looking up. He gathered all of the cards together, shuffling them into a neat deck. "Any customers?"

"No. It's pretty slow today." Yugi said, walking over to Atem. "We should go do something. I can write a note to Grandpa when he wakes up, and then we can come back later to finish the shift."

Atem sighed heavily, his whole body heaving. "Actually, Yugi, I was planning to--" He started to make an excuse, but was cut off by his hikari.

"Nope. I'm not believing anything you say. We're going outside and there's nothing you can say or do to stop me." Yugi said, shaking his head, giving Atem a look to tell his yami to just surrender. Grabbing Atem's arms, he half-dragged him out of the room, scrawled a note for his grandpa, and then marched out the door with Atem. "We'll think of something to do."

Yugi dragged Atem down to one of the least crowded places he could find; the park. It was pretty empty that day, and Yugi felt himself brighten. He glanced over at Atem and gave him a wide grin, which the pharaoh couldn't help but return. The two sat down on a bench, Yugi chattering mindlessly about business at the game shop.

Atem perked up, like a dog seeing a rabbit. He turned his head, making Yugi halt abruptly in his spew of words. Atem was gazing at a girl under a tree, doing something with a portable computer. As Atem searched for the word in his mind, he also tried to place the girl's face. The two clicked at the same time, and Atem pointed over at her to show Yugi. "Look! A laptop!" He said, sounding a little excited. Those weren't the words he had meant to say, and Yugi was utterly baffled.

The boy sat there, trying to make sense of what his yami was meaning. A lot of people carried laptops to the park... what did that have to do with anything? An odd expression came over his face as he stared wearily at Atem, as though he was an insane person.

"No--no-- I didn't mean that." Atem said quickly to calm Yugi. "It's Kira!" He jabbed his finger again in Kira's direction, still excited about it. It was nice to see a familiar face now, since Atem had been hanging around in Yugi's bedroom so much. Besides, he hadn't seen Kira for a while, and she might be in some sort of contact with Malik or Ishizu.

Kira really wasent payying attation or listening for that matter. She had her headphones on and was listening to music on the web as well.A smile was never on her face and her eyes had dulled over a while.

"C'mon." Atem nudged Yugi over to the girl, where he sat solemnly besides her, waving a hand between Kira and the screen to get her attention. It was odd that she was so zoned out. Atem could tell that he wasn't the only one that had taken the abrupt departure of the others so hard.
