I luv my clarinet sensei whee She's moved our lesson from Sunday to Thursday nights and last night I brought up discovering klesmer clarinet music, and I told her how I liked it.
Sensei: Wait a sec. *goes to rummage around in music closet* No, that's not it...no...close...hey, I've been looking for this!...No...
Me: surprised ...
Sensei: Aha! *pulls out big book of klesmer music* Let's try this stuff out.
Me: eek blaugh Yay! New music!
...and so the majority of my lesson involved learning a brief history and how to play klesmer music. It's a lot of fun. Think Fiddler on the Roof. cool

damn, hun you are so lucky... i wish that i could get that type of stuff... oh wait i forgot i never had lesson and probably never will, perhaps thats why i probably didnt know a lot of things until recently... lol.... anway good luck with the klesmer music.

Don't give up hope, Schatz! In fact, my dad got a quaint little magazine in the mail today: GIA Publications Music Education Magazine. Here's their website. They've got some great books for every level and can be used for school or home or both. I'm sure you can find something that will help you improve. And they've got a CD with Frank Ticheli's music that I'm getting *drools at prospect of more new music* heart

I'm Baaaaaack! biggrin
Today in band we played this really, really awesome song. Awesome as in: if we don't play this song for our concert there is going to be an angry band outside of a certain band director's house.
What I don't understand is that my BD said that the piece is for really good junior high bands or high school bands, and on the website we get our music from (jwpepper.com) it says

HIGH WATER MARK: THE THIRD DAY
(Gettysburg, PA-July 3, 1863)

Michael Sweeney
HAL LEONARD PUBLISHING CORP.
Easy

Depicting the momentous events on the third and final day at the Battle of Gettysburg that marked the change of the tide in America's Civil War, this composition paints vivid musical images that will leave your audience in awe! From the early morning church bells, to a cacophony of sound portraying the barrage of artillery rounds, to the parade-like advance of troops in Pickett's famous charge, this offers real musical depth and a meaningful experience for performers and listeners alike. Historical notes assist with cross-curricular teaching as well. It's a sophisticated and unique programmatic work that is worth your serious consideration!

Note the bolded easy. It has quarter, half, and eighth notes and maybe 5 16ths in the song. He's the brass coach for a college band, and he thinks this stuff is high school level? Either he's overestimating the difficulty level of this piece, or he's attempting to lie to us and say we're a really good band to give us self esteem. Self esteem is liking yourself for who you are, not liking yourself because of what someone else tells you.

...whatever. it's like the best musical piece I've ever heard, and I do hope that we play it for the concert, but I believe that he's misinterpreting the meaning of easy.

With love to my clarinet buddies,
Flaming_Ninja

I love Fearless Leader. 3nodding
Today we read...uh...the title was long and I don't remember gonk It was by Percy Grainger, and it was a Scottish folk song...once we finished FL held up his score of the music.

FL: So, who really likes this piece and wants to play it?
[About two people raise their hands]
FL: Aha. See, if you were in wind ensemble, you would be stuck with this piece for three months. There are advantages to being in this band, after all...besides having me, of course cool
Me: We love you, Davisson! blaugh
FL: stare

o_o yikes I haven't been here forever DDDDD: that honor orch rehearsal made my hand hurt for days crying it still hurts this very minute...

Hmmm my Band director did that once too, flamingninja! We got this song called Courtly Airs and Dances back in October, he was like, "This is a beginning College piece you guys" us: "O__O" me: stare are you sure? him: yes me: ...okay... biggrin cool! ::so guillible it isn't funny::. I found out its level three gonk not so college ishy now is it...-_-; bummed me out. D: last year we did level 4..twas uber fun!! Now we're at level 3? Whats with this :Scream:

hmm but maybe its hard intellectualy? Um...or maybe musically!? O_o!!! Conductors are so weird gonk

Nonee of the clarinetist talk to me in teh honor orch ;_;, I found out I'm 3rd chair out of 6 [well thats like WH000! considering I beat teh clari's from my school by a b000nch biggrin ] The two other guys don't like me very much I think...they laughed when I played long tones [and yet mr. second chair holds a rose wood clarinet and claims he practices everyday!?] and the second chair decided to make me feel horribel D:. [without talking] I was playing mozart's clarinet concerto, then he started playing it really well =-=;. The first chair is absolutely horrible...absolutely.....the 4th chair is one of my teacher's students...and the rest...I don't know who those two are o_O; last chair guy is weird...

Our conductor wrote one of teh songs, its SO COOL! [but so uncool because of the clarinet solo...that first chair guy was bad...really bad...] http://65.23.157.59/mp3/33128.mp3
