One of the other guilds I'm in UOE has tried this a few months back, and honestly it was a spectacular failure. The off-Gaia forum is practically on life support.

Well ******** :/ Basically, the whole idea behind getting our own place, is so that we would move away from all these...gods, I don't even know how to say it...amateurs? Immature players? Just kids?
You know what I'm trying to say.
Gaia, as big as it may be, is still largely a young teen community site. With many many flaws. I mean come on, look at Barton.

It wouldn’t be such a bad idea to have some sort of presence off Gaia. If we had our own site we could whatever we wanted there. Perhaps we’re not totally ready to exist on our own but maybe it’s time to start thinking about having our own place.

I agree though, I wonder would we go that extra dirty minded mile that real Drow behave at?

Well, I can understand the appeal of leaving Gaia. I also see a possibility that this will hurt.
A separate place, while it nice for those of us who are already part of the guild. I would like to be able to make use of my house rather than just play the day to day stuff.
From what I can see, we'd probably end up attracting more of those who will want it by the book, rather than willing to create something new. Which is one reason why I think my house was allowed...I mean, it doesn't look like what I've read or even seen within all my drow research.
Plus, like all lose site, you run the risk of going stagnate. No new people coming in, old people not being interested. I mean that what we have here, but at least we can caught the attention of the random seeker. Rather than being completely out of the way.

I think having a separate forum outside of Gaia would be neat, but not to be known as, or to replace UnderGaia here on Gaia.
I think that what makes UnderGaia, well, UnderGaia, is the fact that it exists as an attempt to be the shadow of Gaia itself. To attempt to detach Gaia's shadow and move it someplace else would be to strip UnderGaia of it's soul I think.
That being said, Gaia IS full of kids, as Aglo said, and Gaia isn't really a great place to host mature roleplaying.
I think if you wanted to meet up with friends made here in UnderGaia in an offsite location and create something new (and perhaps better), it should be given a different name which doesn't identify itself as a chibi anime cutsie drow slice of Gaia.
You might theme it as a Forgotten Realms free form forum RP, or you might make it anything else drow oriented, but I would definitely not limit it to Gaians or make it a Gaia oriented production.
If you did limit it only to Gaian migrants, you'd end up with a situation where you are distilling an already rare solution 'till you have nothing (and no participants) left.
There are a couple successful drow forums, one of which had become quite famous and based entirely on Forgotten Realms. All characters in that forum were obviously built using Dungeons & Dragons rules knowledge and it's fame was largely spread by use of the incredible CG art posted on DeviantArt of characters in that forum. You may have seen the image of a female drow with copper colored hair sporting a streak of white... that's the drow RP I'm talking about. I don't know if that RP is still going, however, I know that enough UnderGaians exist (have existed) to form the core of an equally ambitious project at some point. Again, I don't think such a side project should be even remotely stated to be affiliated with Gaia, as that would detract from its impact.

I think I agree with feany. It would be cool to have it as a seperate feature, but let's not forget what makes this place a refuge in the first place. smile

*Appears in a flash of black flames*
Never fear Chemosh is here! I have returned from the weeks of no internet and have learned so very much. Reading the posts since my absence has been... interesting to say the least. I also agree that we need an off site forum where mature roleplaying that use Forgotten Realms as it's base should be created. I myself am able to create said forum, but I would want the go ahead from Undergaia Crew first since I would want them all to be moderators of this new forum. Mostly because it would be such a huge undertaking for me personally (and since I cannot think of any names!). Other than that, I can see that the mass reset was quite thorough and successful. I hope everyone has been doing well these past few weeks!
