Oh yes... in other action/soap opera news, Bleach got really awesome again out of nowhere. The next chapter seriously cannot come out fast enough. ******** manga making me tear up like that. crying

Yeah, I was amazed--Bleach has pretty damn good anime filler! xd
As for the manga, it'd slowed down a bit (since Ichigo's training is ALWAYS the same--get his a** kicked until he realizes why he's fighting, then unleash new power and demolish everybody), but it's picked up very, very nicely once again.

Even if they are good, they have no reson to be there.

Actually, they do--it's so that you can manage that balance between keeping a decent pace behind the manga and not having extremely drawn-out main story sequences--the anime for both Dragonball Z and One Piece were/are notorious for that, although One Piece doesn't do it nearly as bad since they have a (usually kickass) filler arc between each main arc.
No filler means stuff like the Gokuu vs. Freeza fight in DBZ, which actually felt like five very long minutes in the manga. xd
Very little (or no) filler means that your series may very well catch up to the manga, and halt production completely on your series, meaning you'll get what happened with Rurouni Kenshin and what's happening now with Naruto--seasons of uninteresting filler. xd

What do you mean no reason to be there? If an anime overtakes its source material it has only three viable options.
1. Stop. Example: InuYasha
2. Make up its own storyline to keep going and become original to its source material. Example: Fullmetal Alchemist
3. Make filler episodes to keep the manga's plot from progressing until the manga gains a decent headway. Example sad A GOOD example) Bleach (A BAD example would be Naruto... though they pull off a decent filler arc every now and then its not nearly common enough)
I think filler has a pretty darn good reason to be there. Its either that or the options of nothing at all or an entire series of what is basically made up by the filler people anyway.
But to each is own. Your opinion expressed, my opinion expressed. Let us allow them to coexist and leave it at that.
EDIT: Oh yeah, and the DBZ option: Draw it out. I forgot that one.
