Indeed the insects were normal, and the extreme cold did kill them. But what of the amount of time spent to generate it? With the swarm allowed to bite at any part of exposed flesh they found for to seconds plus the additional time spent in the initial burst, it would probably leave Laz a bloody mess of painful welts all over his body, sort of like having your skin stripped as the flies tore at it to feed on the blood.

And when everything quieted down, there was no ghoul left, it was gone, and probably the puppetmaster as well, as that would be the end of it. Imagine, a swarm of the tiny insects in a dense forest, unassuming, and then striking at all sides at once to tear someone apart and break their oncentration so that they could hardly fight back. Even worse, imagine armies clashing as such insects tore at the soldiers to distract them as blades met flesh.

But this would not be the case. During the time Laz would be vulnerable, there was no further ghoul attack, no spells, no people, just the swarm, and when they were dead, the alley would be empty but for a carpet of dead insects that rained down onto it.

Laz actually had something prepared for defense.... he knew that other ghoul was there and likely to take advantage of the situation, and it was better to drain himself staying alive than to play safe and not go all out. It's what he was prepared to do... but it didn't seem like he'd have to.

"Haaa..."

A deep exhalation. Though his skin wasn't feeling the cold, he was feeling the hell out of the ripped skin. Adrenaline was letting him forget it, but in this moment of calm in which Laz remained extremely defensive, the feeling came back. His body shivered at it... the welts, bumps, and bleeding from just about everywhere. It looked like those cartoons where someone gets stung by a swarm of bees or wasps, except his own case involved many smaller bumps and lots more blood.

"I'm too weak..."

There were many, many things stopping from doing what he should have done in the beginning of the fight. He was used to getting teamed, back in the day... it shouldn't have gone like this. He shouldn't be bleeding profusely.

"I don't believe it, after so long, all these years..."
"..."

Silence. Absolute silence. It was as if within this block of ice, not even the air stirred.

Lazenca, after recieving that suprise attack, had gone down to wolf form and encased himself in a layer of ice. Though the Ghoul Bomb had done very well in supressing his aura, he had gained his composure at the end and won out. Though the pain of the final attack and the effects of what came down to a failed attempt to eat him alive, Laz had decided to simply stop and heal. He was asleep in this block that was situated in the middle of the alley. Though there were plenty of passers-by, nobody bothered to stop and ponder the ice, which may have looked like glass or simply a box, depending on the light.

Episode 1: "Advent Heart"
"Stay the course despite what befalls you; destiny shall always remain true."
-Tale of The Wolf of Light

"This fair is LAAAME. Nothing's exploded yet? Give me five minutes."

"Colonel..."

The rest of the group laughed, walking into the sunset. DJ Vertigo was the first to regain his composure. "Don't worry, the freaks come out at night."

"Just what I need... to be surrounded by more weirdos. At least you big, strong men will protect me, right?" Everyone went silent, looking between each other, before first looking at Lazenca, then Twitch. This prompted her to push her boyfriend. "Fine, I'm with Colonel for the rest of the night."

"SCORE!"

"...Hnn."

He could take a joke, but he had eaten something that soured his stomach and mood. Lazenca closed his bomber jacket, yawning. "Well, whatever, however long it takes... something needs to happen, or I'm going to fall asleep. Want to do a few kiddie rides until the other group shows up?"

Colonel, his arm around his sister, shrugged. "Revolution Evolution's like... being rented out, ain't it? Dunno what's taking them so long." He looked around, checking their position. "We're at Fat Man's hot dog place... we can leave 'em hanging for just a bit. Let 'em wait and all, since we waited for them."

"Yeah, alright. I'm not riding no kiddie ride, though. I'm going to the fortune teller." Vertigo looked in his wallet. "With plenty of money to burn. Let's go."

Lazenca stepped up between Colonel and Twitch, putting his arm around them and making Colonel's arm slip from his girlfriend to himself. "Feel the love, baby." He then bumped his hip against Colonel's, pushing him away. "There are good mages and mystics, but don't get scammed. If you've got so much money to burn, maybe you can pay the rest of my tuition?"

"Ya. No. I pay you enough at the club, just to stand by me and look cool. you're going to actually have to do something to get that promotion. Soooo... let's go. Maybe the teller'll see it in your future?" He led the quartet on to where an elaborate tent was set up... it was huge, with a trailer behind it. It was strange, though- there were many people already there, though too young for the group's taste, but nobody was even looking at the tarot stand, as if it didn't exist at all.

"Trisection Tarot, huh? Wonder what that's all about?"

"I dunno. May as well see what's up."

They all filed into the tent and treated to an amazing sight. They could all feel the magic in the air, and see its effects- while the exterior was simply a big cloth tent and trailer, the interior was like a stone cathedral, complete with stained-glass windows apparently depicting female angels falling from heaven. The place was well lit with golden candlelight that hung upside-down from the ceiling, but the flames pointed downward with no hint of candle wax dripping on the ground. Three men sat at the end of a long row of stone columns, a table between them and the four friends.

"...Man, this place is cool as hell! Remind me to get this motif for [R]Evolution."

"Oxymoron. Rhetoric and rhyme that lasts through all space and time. By falling from above, you rise to something greater than yourself."

"...What?"

"I don't know. This is freaky, yo."

"Paradox. There are three, but there is one. You are mortal, but you will live forever."

"Live... forever? What do you mean?"

"Enigma. The puzzle, the riddle. The answers are never the same."

"What puzzle? What riddle? What answers?"

All three men spoke at the same time. "Trisection Heart... Kal'su Rei. Approach, and you will take the first step in finding your own answers."

There was silence in the cathedral, until...

"Come on."

Nobody knew which of them had spoken, but after a shared nod of reassurance, all four stepped forward.

-----------------------------------

By now, the ice had melted since Lazenca wasn't upkeeping it at all. However, nobody had bothered him and hopefully, it would remain that way. He remained asleep, his body burning off fuel so that his surface wounds could heal quickly, taking care of the bleeding and missing skin.

As time wore on and the night was erased from the sky with the sun's rays, Lazenca woke up. He had gone back to mixed hair... stable enough, but who knows what his next emotion would be. Crystal blue eyes opened, and he shifted up into his Transitional state. His gaze remained down even as he stood and leaned on the brick wall.

"You'll fight me with limits... barriers... stops on your inner power. Everything is for a reason." His eyes lifted to the open alley before him. The flies were still scattered before him, a testament to his brief battle. "The more you get used to these limits, the more you'll break them. Real life situations... if you get into a fight and can't overcome your limit, then we die."

Pushing off the wall, Laz started walking forward into the street. His stomach growled, telling of his hunger. "I can't die yet, I've only touched the tip of the iceberg."

It was easier to blend into the early-moning crowd. Not many people walked the streets, and less were the people who cared about one disoriented person exiting an alley. Unbothered, Lazenca would fade from the horizon as his journey continued.

**A bright flash of bluish-green light explodes out above the gardens of Latent, followed by screaming stream of profanity about not wanting to die and a and a sharp thud of something heavy hitting the ground.**

The impact sight is at the foot of one of the watersheds that control the irrigation of the cities gardens. In the center of the quickly flooding crater is a dark haired, deeply tanned, man in his late teens to early twenties. He lies down at about five foot six inches from top of head to bottom of feet, and is currently stark nude, on his stomach. He has several scars on his back and legs, some of them looking intentional, others look like battle scars. There are two of tattoos that standout from the mix of scar tissue. The first one is a mark on his upper right arm of what looks like a claw mark filled with silver ink shaped vaguely like a river with a small fish swimming between the banks. The other is a well done full back tattoo of a phoenix, it's flames accent the scars on his lower back and almost blend into the artwork.

At the moment, it's hard to tell if he's conscious or not. A few second later, he starts to move slowly, but judging from the fall, it's likely that he's pretty badly injured.

Now, that looked like it hurt.

::Standing on the edge of the impact site was a man. He didnt look special in any way, but there was. His spikey navy blue hair blue gently in the wind. For those that could sense it, they'd see this man was human, and his hair...was not died.

He carried no weapons on him, and really didnt even seem assuming at all. He wore a button up shirt which was open and flowing. It faded from grey to black, with black near the shoulders and a rich grey at the ends of the shirt. This led down to his dark grey pants, and his pale legs wearing black flip flops.

He seemed average in almost everyway, he even had a cup of something from a cafe in his hands, and black thick framed glasses atop his head.

Carefully, he plotted toward the impact point and kneeled down beside recently fallen. Was he an angel? A demon? A mistkake from a nearby jet? Who knows!? He did however speak, his voice was warm and friendly. While he was obviously a stranger, he spoke as if he'd known this man for a hundred years, and maybe even related to him. But he wasnt. He was just friendly. And in that friendly tone he simply asked...::

Are you ok?
PostPosted: Mon Feb 20, 2006 10:33 am

I think so... ugh.

**starts to roll over and sit up and something in his head seems to connect the dots**

Great, clothes are missing. This is just getting better and better, first that stupid crystal blows me up, throws me god knows where, then strips me to the skin...

Um, that reminds me, where am I?

:: Oh if only one could take a picture of Nostalgia, because that was the look on this simple mans face. It was just so familiar he couldnt help but chuckle a bit.::

Ooh, thats a long long story my friend, a better question might be...

::He didnt pause, but he did stand up, and he reached his pale hand down to try and help the fallen man up. Assuming of course, he could even stand.::

...where were you? And can you stand?
PostPosted: Mon Feb 20, 2006 10:46 am

**takes the man's hand and pulls himself up**

Yea, I'll be ok in a few minutes. I was in northern Mongolia... Oh, sorry about that.

**At that, the nearby shadows begin to animate and wrap around him, forming a mostly insubstantial pair of shorts that fall to the knees**

There, that's a little better. Being naked in front of a stranger is usually considered rude unless you're into that kind of thing.

**extends his hand to the man that just helped him up**

I'm Lanhie.

Mongornia...nope. I cant say I've heard of it.

::His eyes seem drawn to the shadow play. A loose curtain of shadow? Well it looked effective...but...::

That has to be uncomfortable. To be...you know...hanging around like that...

::His right hand, yet still holding the coffee cup makes a sort of waving gesture toward Lahnie's crotch area. He was trying to be decent.::

Well you know its...a bit nippy out...and...

::Alright, theres 10 ways to say this, and one way to do this. So he just does it. For a second Lahnie might notice a sparking in the mans eyes. It was a black almost electrical sort of energy followed a bit of wieght in Lahnie's waist area. The mostly insubstantial pants, were no slick black shorts. They had wieght, they had thickness, they for intents and purposes felt and were, totally real. And yet still were shadow. It was like someone had pulled the shadows together, molded them tightly in thread, and instantaneously weaved them into shorts! A silky light material, which seemed utterly black.::

There! That might work a bit better.

::The man smiled very brightly, and gave a satisfied nod, as his eyes rose to meet Lahnies. His eyes were black, but naturally. A cornea and pupil were clearly visible, they were like very very dark brown eyes.

With a tight grip and stark shape, Lahnie would find his had met and shook.::

Pleasure to meet you Lahnie, welcome to Gaia!
PostPosted: Mon Feb 20, 2006 11:06 am

Thanks. That was pretty co **something heavy and black hits Lanhie square in the head with a somewhat sickening whack, throwing him back to the floor** ouch...

**rubbing his head** Hey! My cloak! I forgot how heavy this thing was.

**Stands back up and puts on the cloak. It's a deep black tattered cloak that seems to move somewhat on it's own. Around the shoulder area on the cloak, there are several dull steel plates and a battered chain that connects to a tarnished silver broach to hold the cloak around the neck.**

Wait a minute... Where am I again?

Whoa!

::The man jumped back a foot, they were being attacked! He took a sort of kung fu-esque pose until he realized that their attacker...was a huge cloak. Now he was a curious man to begin with, this just raised all sorts of questions. He had seen cloaks, before, but ones that clammer and have chains! He couldnt help but ask.::

What is that?!
PostPosted: Mon Feb 20, 2006 11:16 am

It's an armor of sorts. The steel plates on the shoulders and near the ends are ment to be used in a kind of dance, obscuring the wearer to a degree while deflecting attacks. Think of it more like a shield you wear instead of carry. The chain just keeps it on me while I move. My father gave it to me.

You said something about Welcome to Gaia? Because I'm just alot confused.

Very nice indeed.

::The man leaned forward with a finger stoutly place on his glasses and sort scanned over the cloak for a moment before being snapped back from his invesigatory mode by Lahnie's questoin.::

Gaia! Yes Gaia.

::His foot tapped on the ground, as he infact pointed at the ground.::

This is Gaia. More specifically I should say, welcome to the Town of Latent. But this world, is Gaia. Its very big. Very big indeed. And I'm just going to go out on a limb here and guess...your not from here. Are you?
