Marik was listening to the two.

"First off, when in the Shadow Realm, you'll have to split away from Ryou. It won't be of much use to you to be blind, will it?" Atem asked, eyebrows arching, though he knew facial expressions were pretty much useless with Bakura when he was in control of Ryou's body. "And since it'll pretty much be useless to us anyway, no using Millennium Items. The Shadow Realm, as you said, will provide when we'll need, so no energy attacks at all." He paused to allow Bakura any sort of objection.

"That's all agreed to." Bakura said, nodding his head. "I'll say the rules of the game when needed; there are no conditions on my part besides asking you to bring your deck, which I assume you already have. On to the rewards. You say what you'd be willing to give up, and what you want in return, and I'll tell you if I have any problems with them."

Atem felt himself hesitate, wondering if he should continue with this. He tried to determine why Bakura wouldn't say what game they were playing, but didn't dwell on it too much. If they didn't use thier Millennium Items, and their decks were involved, nothing could really go wrong on his part. "I suppose this isn't going to be a simple match," Atem said bitterly, trying to think of what he could afford to give up that would equal Bakura risking his freedom. "I will give you the Millennium Puzzle. I can't really think of much else to give you, seeing as I won't be able to do much if you win and I'm trapped within the puzzle. I'll agree to let you decide on the rules of the game entirely, and the consequenses. If I win, however, your soul will be forced into an object. Something you cannot escape from, like the Millennium Ring, obviously."

Bakura's smirk showed through. "Agreed. Let's go gather the others those who wish to come, and who can handle it in the Shadow Realm." He knew that mortals couldn't last as long as others in the Shadow Realm, which was good for Bakura. That meant less annoying people around.

Ishizu tagged after Atem, but stopped in the living room when she saw Khalid awake. Torn between seeing what had happened, since she had heard Bakura's voice from the kitchen, but decided to go to Khalid. She stood on her knees besides the couch, grasping Khalid's hands in her own and glanced towards the kitchen. "I don't know what's going on or what's happened, but do you think you'd have enough strength to walk with me in there?" Ishizu didn't want to miss out on anything, but she wouldn't force Khalid to do something if he was too weak from the stab.

Khalid shook his head at Kira. "I'd like to know what's going on as well..." He said, not wanting to just sit around longer than needed. He knew his body would need to heal, but this might be more important. Khalid didn't have to worry, though. Bakura and Atem stormed into the living room, where there would be more room.

Atem glanced over at Khalid, then down at his Millennium Puzzle. He knew if he used it to summon the Shadow Realm, there might not be enough for later, when he would need it. He looked back at Khalid, his expression asking what he wanted.

It took a moment for Atem to catch Khalid's eye, and another one for Khalid to make out the pharaoh's expression. Nodding his head briefly, he knew that the spirits would be weakened magically from everything that happened, and he'd have to summon the Shadow Realm. He was glad that this was something that wouldn't hurt him physically; he probably wouldn't be able to handle that.

Darkness swallowed the living room and everybody in it, the area soon becoming darkened immensly. Bakura couldn't help but grin; he always felt at home here. Some of the others shivered, hating the coldness of this place.

"Well, let's get this over with." Atem spat, rubbing his arms. The Shadow Realm already seemed to know what rules they had agreed on, for Bakura and Ryou had split bodies already, which Atem knew the tomb robber couldn't do with his items. "Name the game."

Bakura glanced around, though there wasn't much to see, just enough. "This will be a game of luck. We have our decks here--" He swept his hand in a wide motion, the Shadow Realm creating a table with chairs, "And draw a card. If you have a monster and its attack is lower than mine, you lose that round. The same goes for me. Trap cards win rounds automatically, and magic cards signal defeat. If we have equal cards, it's void."

Atem nodded his head; he knew that the tomb robber was using his stragities against him by springing a game of luck. But even in this kind of game you'd have to keep your nerve; it was almost as though the cards could tell what you felt. If you got scared, hesitant, or completly panicked, that would mean you'd be on the losing side. "And the consequenses?"

Bakura's grin spread. "Of course." He whipped around and pointed at Yugi and Ryou, where the two of them had been edged a little bit away from the others, inched aside by the Shadow Realm. At Bakura's sudden movement, energy cages sprang up around the two hikaris, crackling with electricity, deafening to those inside the cages. "Each hand you lose, the cage will shrink around your hikari. Lose ten and Yugi there will recieve a painful and fatal shock. If I lose the game, the same will happen to Ryou."

Atem paled. He had thought, for a moment, that if Ryou and Bakura were split he could get the hikaris out of any harm. He was utterly wrong. A look of hatred spread across the pharaoh's face; Bakura would sacrifice Ryou any day for Millennium Items; meanwhile Atem cared for them both. He couldn't let Ryou die, but he wouldn't place the boy before his hikari. There was no way to save them both; he had already agreed to this Shadow Game. No backing out now.

Malik blinked, he hadn't been paying attention, "Oh erm--" he didn't really know how to respond to that.

The two duelers ignored those on the sidelines; it meant nothing to them at the moment. Bakura slyly drew his first card; White Magical Hat. 1000 attack, could be better, but it was good enough for now. He laid the card down on the table to show the pharaoh, who drew and showed his card. Swords of Revealing Light. "Oh, too bad. Magic cards lose automatically." Bakura said with a smirk, turning to watch the cage around Yugi shrink.

Atem felt himself tremble with rage and fear. He couldn't spare them both, and his loyalities were with Yugi. He wouldn't sacrifice his hikari for Ryou, but he couldn't find any way out of this mess. Breathing in deeply, he knew he would have to get control of his nerves to continue this game.

-a little while later-

Bakura was winning, that was obvious. Yugi's cage was smaller, and Atem was struggling with himself. Ryou could tell that from the sadistic glee coming from his yami, with occasional pangs as he lost a hand. Ryou sharply drew a breath; he couldn't let Bakura win, couldn't let Yugi die. He knew what he had to do.

Atem glanced up wearily at his hikari, wishing that he had never agreed to this duel, never let Bakura make the rules. His gaze shifted over towards Ryou, who was backing up cautiously, scrunching up as though to run. But where would he run to? There were only the bars of the cage to go to... Oh, no. Atem rose to his feet suddenly, a look of horror on his face as he opened his mouth to maybe protest, to tell Ryou something. Anything.

The pharaoh was too late. Forcing his mind to become blank, Ryou bolted forward. There was a loud screaming from Bakura, both in his mind and out loud. He paid no attention to what his yami was saying; it didn't matter. Slamming into the side of the cage, Ryou felt the electricity jolt through him, burning his soul. It didn't seem to be affecting him physically like normal electricity would; it was searing through every part of him, but he wasn't aware of any real fire. Falling backwards, Ryou crumpled to the ground, not quite dead yet. He struggled to take a few burning gasps of air, but his body wasn't responding.

Finally, Ryou's body lay still at the bottom of his cage, peace at last came to the boy.
