Nevira Shadowfire Actually no, it's the band of cork that connects the lower joint to the bell...(I suck at describing specific parts on my clarinet; I'm used to them just being there and me going "OMG this must be fixed! *points frantically to problem area* ") But I've replaced it with some synthetic cork until I can find my cork sheets. I know they're here somewhere. mad Patience, young Miyoko! Your teacher will get back to you in time. It's still the holidays; he could be out of town. My teacher's going to the Fiesta Bowl gonk My sister is too, except she's with the Pride of Oklahoma blaugh But it's so quiet in town now...it's like everyone that had the slightest chance of going to the Fiesta Bowl has gone. At least, that's what I thought until I went on OU's campus, and holy fudge! People everywhere with bags of Tostitos chips! eek It was like gameday all over again. surprised Ahhh...I KNEW THAT O_O!!!!!!!!! XD XD! No his parents came all ze way from England so he took a week off sweatdrop I felt stupid for calling him XD. o-o fiesta....:O Oooh is it funnn!? rofl its still crowded in the malls here...and everywhere really o__o;. XDD!! mm chipsss.... I had the most terrible coffee yesterday o____o; made me feel so bitter that day....DD: I wish I got Orange Julius instead crying

Random piece of advice for anytime something happens to your cork, whether it disintegrates, falls off, tears, etc., and you don't have the equipment or the manpower to fix it...Invest in a spool of teflon tape. It's what plumbers and the like use to seal joints temporarily...I can usually find a small spool at Wal-Mart for about 50 cents, definitely less than $1 USD. The stuff is non-stick, except it will stick to itself...wrap it several times around the place where the cork is missing/torn, and voila...Instant temporary cork. It does a good job of sealing air and the like, and doesn't harm the horn. All you have to do is peel it off after you are ready to replace/fix the cork, and it leaves no sticky stuff...I had to do this when my horn lost a cork right before our all-state band left for international competition. Eep! Talk about nightmarish! Have a great day all!

bmml003 QueenoftheSea Does anyone have any advice on how to make my new wooden clarinet not sound so Flat? Ahh...switching from plastic to wood eh? I did that early this May I too sounded flat for some time. and don't listen to this person, schatz_ich_liebe_dich also u could pull in out the.... piece right below the mouthpiece pulling out the barrel makes your instrument even more flat. Basically, what I suggest to you (since I have gone through this) Is to take your time getting used to the instrument. It takes practice to adjust your embrocure and air support to make the instrument have perfect tone. I do recommend also using bore oil once a month. Basically, dail maintenance as well. Hope this helps biggrin I did all of this when switching from plastic to wood and now I sound great! but when I play on a plastic clarinet and sound sharp XD so I have to pull out the barrel oh and FYI to that person who suggested the barrel, push in if you are too flat to become sharp, pull out if you are too sharp to become flat by the way it helped my problem when i switched, pulling out the barrel. it made me a little sharp though but it worked with me and thats y i did it so u can stop mouthin me off i hate it.... i was just trying to help with what helped me and also my bd when i asked told me to do that... otherwise i wouldnt have said so....

bmmi003, that was pretty rude, especially the way you corrected her! scream
I don't know if I'm interpreting this right but don't try to sound like you know everything, but if you really do, atleast be considerate that schatz tried to help!
You know, back when I was in sixth grade two years ago, I never had anyone correct me when it came to playing the clarinet not even my first teacher could correct me, I had the most horrible embouchure, terrible tone, no sense of rhythm, no common sense in music even in seventh grade last year I had no sense of what I was doing. I gave HORRIBLE advice, I didn't even know what I was saying, but atleast I tried my best, al though the world seemed so small to me at that time, at that time I was vain, I thought I was the best, even then when I didn't know anything, I tried my best to be considerate to those who helped. For those who helped me, they were pretty considerate in doing so, like my current teacher, he stayed utterly quiet about how horrible my tone was and my sense of rhythm until only a few months ago [XD he finally told me two weeks ago] but because he was considerate and trying to correct my errors he helped alot, so maybe if you were more considerate to her helping, it would be nice, she'd learn more and that would be good :].
so, thank you schatz for helping :]
note: my rant could be caused by being sick of the rose parade O_o; watching it for 13 years, waking up way too early when I slept way too late and many other various reasons o_o SO DON'T KILL ME D:

Even with 200 stormtroopers/scouttroopers/clonetroopers marching down it? And George Lucas as the Grand Marshal? Yeah, I know not everyone is a crazy obsessed SW fan and marching band geek like me sweatdrop But the Rose Parade has always been fun for me, even more so this year not only because of the 501st but because my dad and I were engaging in a father-daughter moment and appraising the bands marching in the parade. Needless to say, the Marines won hands-down gonk (Me: Holy crow! Look at those lines! And those diagonals! Dad: Even their shadows are in straight lines! Me: scream ) But congrats to all the bands in the Rose Parade. Personally, I'm surprised they let one of the Oklahoma Rising floats and the Oklahoma Centennial Band go first. My friend Erin was in there, as a trumpet. Wonder what she thinks of it...and I want to know what idiot designed those uniforms. stressed I'm also surprised they didn't play "Oklahoma!" at all. They should have! gonk

I am better now, but i try and give advise that i have gotten that i know is from a valuable source and i think will help the person who asked. so passing information that was past onto me i think sometimes helps people especially since i know how they would feel if they got the wrong advise, but hey. i'm glad i helped someone.

You're welcome ^_^, well, as a musician and a fellow clarinetist I pretty much can relate. But just keep in mind that there might be people who are just going to never ever ever praise you and be ooterly evil, so just be careful :]. Well, its pretty good to give advice, even if it is wrong atleast you're gonna find out. Mmm, but be a bit careful, I give wrong advice out too, or I sometimes end up mixing it up with something else, so usually its best to refer to internet sources too, even if you get advice from say...Michelle Zukovsky ,[I think she's the first chair clarinetist in L.A phil... biggrin D me teacher knows her whee he might be lying but he said one day he might give me to her ^_^], test it yourself, because musicians are all different so their advice might not work for the other person. Its like tonguing, not everyone tongues the reed w/ their tip, so everyone is different, so your advice could work for her and maybe its not.

I luv my clarinet sensei whee She's moved our lesson from Sunday to Thursday nights and last night I brought up discovering klesmer clarinet music, and I told her how I liked it. Sensei: Wait a sec. *goes to rummage around in music closet* No, that's not it...no...close...hey, I've been looking for this!...No... Me: surprised ... Sensei: Aha! *pulls out big book of klesmer music* Let's try this stuff out. Me: eek blaugh Yay! New music! ...and so the majority of my lesson involved learning a brief history and how to play klesmer music. It's a lot of fun. Think Fiddler on the Roof. cool
