Toby perked up and looked to Maia. What, him? She was certainly looking at him. She meant him?
"Yeah, I feel fine. Why?" He touched his cheeks. He wasn't hot, but was he cold? No.
Dari wanted to tell Maia what was really happening, but this was not the time nor the venue. He didn't want to remind Toby of anything either. If he was lost in some weird half-conscious middle ground where it didn't hurt, that was just fine.

"You're acting odd," Maia informed him. "All quiet." And Toby was anything but quiet, usually. She scooted closer to him in her chair. "What are you working on today?" she asked. Something important? Well. He wouldn't have been working on It, had it not been important.

"I am?" Well, it was getting around that time. He even felt a little 'off.' That didn't mean he wanted Maia affected, though. He offered her another smile and shook his head. "Just an off day, I guess. HEYHEYHEY--" He hurriedly put his hands over his screen.
"Maia," he said with a chuckle, "We've talked about this." Really she wasn't even supposed to be in the office.

"I know," Maia backed up. "But something has you not feeling well. And I thought maybe it was whatever you're working on." She'd make soup. Lots of soup. Some thing was wrong and she didn't know what, but she wanted to help. "I'll go get you a coffee, if you like."

"Even if it was, you can't just peek." He considered the coffee offer for a moment. He was feeling pretty fatigued, caffeine might be nice, but Maia wasn't an intern. She was a friend. "No, but I think I'll go get some myself. If you don't mind." He hit a button and his computer screen blacked out before he stood.

"I'll go with you," Maia offered, standing. It wasn't like she could catch whatever Toby had. She wasn't human, after all. She went out into the hall and headed for the lounge.

Oh, uh. Alright. He gave Dari another glance and then headed out toward the lounge with Maia.
"So. How were classes today?"

"They were good," Maia said, giving Toby a smile. "I asked Dari about taking online college courses. He said I could. I might want to look into that at some point. And Lori's teaching me all about US history. I think there were an awful lot of greedy people back then. But there's probably even more now."

"People don't really change. Pop culture does, not people." Toby drank this coffee only in emergency situations. He was spoiled by his home brews and special one-cup machine. He took a sip and grimaced. Blech.
"College courses could be nice. We might even back them, I'd have to check."

"Dari told me I should keep reading my Narnia book, because the lion comes back," the selkie confided. Toby didn't seem to want to talk about what was making him feel bad, so she gave him another topic. "I don't know what I want to do yet. I like it here, though. I think I'll stay in Arizona." At least for a while. She had friends here, and someone she rather liked--she hadn't had that in Oregon.

"Oh, I didn't know you'd stopped. I could have told you that." With his shitty coffee in his shitty cup, Toby started back toward his office. "Oh? That's nice. It's a lot easier to set someone up nearby." He smiled a little again. "I'm glad you like it, though."

"Well. It was an awful death," Maia said, making a face. She hadn't liked that the lion had not attempted escape. "And I'll be able to see you--you and Dari all the time." She'd almost slipped. Dari had told her not to reveal feelings. "And Lori and Seamus. And when I get a job, I can take you to the cafe."

"Sure, that sounds great," Toby agreed. Either he was unaware or refused to hear the implications. "The guys I went out with the other night, they both relocated to be around here. It's easier sometimes, to be able to drive straight here and find someone who can help. Uh. Not everyone has as much access as you, though. Once classes end it might be a little stricter." Maybe. Probably not. He'd work his magic.

"Dari told me classes don't have to end," she informed him. At least, that was what she'd gotten from that conversation. "I don't want them to. I want to keep learning as much as I can. I'm still wanting to decide what I want to do." Besides stick with Toby, that was.

"Well, that's fine. A lot of people have no idea what they what to do. It's a big decision. And, uh... classes will end. We only have so much to give. That doesn't meaning learning stops, though, and I'm sure Lori will still be available." He returned to his desk, wiggled his mouse, and typed in a complicated password.
"Did you have a fun break?" Dari asked.
Toby offered a 'cheers' with his cup. "Disgusting."
"Fantastic."
