So much for the fiery hand trick. Rage put his arms around Ash. Everyone could use a hug sometimes. Certain times were just more important than others.
"Just let it out. It's okay."
He wasn't very good at this comforting people thing.

"Okay?" She choked. "It can't be okay. She's dead. And it's my fault, it has to be my fault."
Loosening her grip on his jacket, Asherah gasped and attempted to regain her composure. She was comfortable in this man's arms. She had only met him once before, but in her weakened state, any shred of humanity was needed to breathe easier. Sliding her hands down, she gently wrapped them around his middle and hugged him back, her fingers curling and grabbing onto what fabric they could.
"I don't know why I just can't accept it. Her death. Her not being here. It's been two years now, and it hurts just as much as when it first happened."
It was a moment of calmness for her once again, but who knew what could set her off again into a fit of sobbing.
"How can you even stand to hear me out... I'm just a pathetic nobody, who's only met you twice." Her swollen eyes opened and stared at the folds in his jacket. "I can barely stand to hear myself think right now...."

"Sitting here beating yourself up over it isn't going to help."
Rage let out a heavy sigh. "It's not what she would have wanted. Her time with us may have been short, but it gives us all the more time to embrace what it meant for her to be here, isn't it?"
He gave Ash a bit of a squeeze. "I can't think of a single person who took the loss of someone close to them any better than you. You're not pathetic. You're just doing what comes naturally to ease the pain."
He let a moment of silence go by.

Asherah found herself relaxing as he spoke, maybe he was right. Was she doing the best she could though?
"I guess so." She whispered quietly as he hugged her closer. Asherah shifted a bit in his arms again, then found herself taking a deep breath in.
"I just don't... I mean I..." Sniffle. "I'm just so tired of being like this.. I'm sick of being alone. Ever person I try to get close with pushes me away, or urns a blind eye. is it because of this? Because I'm sad..."
Sliding her hands back to Rage's chest Asherah pushed away softly and looked up at him meekly. Her hears were pressed backward.
"Because I've lived a life that I have already lost?"

"Different people are going to want different things. That doesn't mean you should stop being yourself, you know? But you can't live in the past. You should embrace it and use it to get what you want for a better future."
He looked back down at her.
"So... try to cheer up, okay? I'm sure it's what your daughter would want."

I few final tears found their way down her cheeks as a warm smile graced her face.
"You're right, it is what she would want."
Leaning forward, Asherah placed a small kiss on Rage's cheek before sniffling and gathering her things from the table. She wouldn't let it be awkward, after all, it wasn't anything serious. It was just a 'thank you'.
"I should probably go, there's a match tomorrow... And well I'm the captain and all."
Shoving the things in her pockets, Asherah looked at him kindly for a moment before getting out of her chair.
"Thanks hun... Means a lot."
And with that, Asherah turned on her heel and slowly made her way to the door, back into real life, and opened it.
Clack.. It closed loudly behind her.

As Asherah left, Rage simply closed his eyes and smiled wanly. Solving the world's problems one by one...
... maybe he'd get to heaven yet.

Through the pale moonlight, a dark figure moved along the path to the inn. Although seemingly unhindered by the darkness, his moves still are deliberate, wasting no energy, betraying his old age. If one could pierce the night, they would immediately notice that the man has no face, rather a large eye dominates the area where the face should be. The soft whrrrings from it indicates its mechanical nature. He has long, flowing, silver hair with a plumed hat hiding where the mask begins and hair begins. The rest of his body is hidden by his long coat.
Before he arrived at the door, he tasked his eye to scan the building thermally in the hopes of figuring out how many are currently in the building.

Under the softly swaying branches of a tree that had miraculously managed to survive the destruction that seemed to plague the tavern one set of eyes looking over the rims of copper glasses followed the stranger, a smile spread across her lips as he paused outside for a moment, seeming to judge the building.
In the shadow of the tree she likely wouldn't be noticed, it was why she had chosen the spot after all.
People watching was always entertaining, even when the people came infrequently, as was offten the case at night. It was still enough to entertain her as she absently twirled long locks of dark hair around her fingers.
