Cryptic Angel I cancelled my art contest today, due to lack of interest. That was depressing. ._. aww... y,y no entries?

Cryptic Angel 18, when I put a minimum of 25, none of which I really thought were worth any of the 40k+ prizes. Also had one person drop out, which caused some lovely drama... maybe I'll try another one sometime, but meh. Note to self: never enter Cryptic Angel's contests.

I've found that limits on entries tend to reduce the entries you get. You're already taking a risk entering a contest, that you may not win, To enter one where you not only may not win, but no one may win at all, that's not going to look very promising to people, especially better artists who can afford to be pickier. Did you let it come to the end of the date you set for it before canceling?

That's real comforting, thanks.
Also, if it matters, I've paid all the artists what they thought was fair for their works, so I spent much of the art funds anyways, even though there weren't many entrants.

it seems less people are entering contests, just because they can make as much, if not more running an auction.
but i'll keep my hopes up and advetise like crazy to promote it. : D

I can't speak for kheleksul, but I gather that response was specifically because of the "none of which I really thought were worth any of the 40k+ prizes" remark. I don't know, I guess it just seems a bit harsh to put it like that, perhaps? Especially considering people do contest holders a favour by entering in the first place - they don't have to enter at all (even though some of them can expect to win something). I think it's really excellent that you paid everyone something, anyway, but your words just came off a little less than gracious, I suppose.

I think the minimum entry rule might be the reason you did'ny get many entries. I understand it feels like a safty-line for you, but I think the contest would have been more successful without it. I personally would'nt dare to enter a contest like that if there where'nt enough entries allready, and it all turns into a bad circle for you. In my point of view I take a huge risk entering and I have no control of the situation cause I can't make others enter.
Canceling is'nt fun....I just extended mine a bit. Ends at halloween now.
