Anonymooo Here's something I've been meaning to ask since I started RPing here: why do all of you call it SPARRING when it's not sparring? xd Edit: I'm game for a slugfest minus weapons and supernatural abilities, as long as you'll call it what it is--because it ain't a ******** spar. xd Sparring is a form of training common to many martial arts. Although the precise form varies, it is relatively free-form fighting, with enough rules, customs, or agreements to make injuries unlikely. By extension, argumentative debate is sometimes called "verbal sparring".
Is too. XD

Naw, he's right.
When you're sparring you're not trying to kill each other. Therefore any RP fight with bladed weapons, guns, or fatal abilites isn't sparring.
Which is what everyone here does.

Sparring is more for educational purposes--see what works, see what doesn't, and perform a physical exchange with your partner to fine-tune your strategy and technique. Almost all the RP "spars" I've seen are non-lethal competitive matches. 3nodding Wikipedia Sparring is normally distinct from fights in competition. The goal of sparring is normally the education of the participants, while a competitive fight seeks to determine a winner. Is not, says this. What have you trained in, Typhoon? 3nodding

Which is why I was gonna fight with my sword sheathed, or not use the sword.
Injuries are for serious stuff, or characters who are crazy pumped enough not to care. I generally don't play those.

Read the first paragraph. domokun And, yes. Non-lethal competitive matches -impart wisdom- in the purposes of a fight; it's really why I've had my character do any. =P
And, get ready for Implosion #II, all. Blame Fas.

We looked at the same entry, Omi. xd
In my experience, you don't try and "win" a spar. It's a learning experience, more or less, and there's really no winner or loser unless some unlucky schlub actually DOES get knocked down/out. xd

XD Well, intention or no, the basic guidelines of a spar still come into effect, even if you're not intending to "learn" directly. Because, -in most cases-, you almost always DO learn from a new situation. =P BUT, that's me. I'll call it a spar, I'll call it a WAR. Yes.
"Hey! Wanna have a war!? [Puts out his hands.]"
And: As I promised.. [Lifts a tree, grunts, and drops it next to Nihilistic, before unimploding everyone.] ...PSCYHE, BITCHES!

Omi, I don't think you understand something.
I'm a goddamn samurai. That makes me immune to imploding.

Sweet. We've gone completely from topic of a practice/boredom fight to discussing the meaning of the word 'spar' with no effort.
