I think Farsight realised that it was necessary to expand on the Tau dogma to retake what was lost and expand the Empire.

He may well have gone off on his own with his own loyalists because the Tau heirarchy would never accept what he planned to do. That's the thing. his actions became legend, and pushed the Ethereals out of the light as the true leaders, so they got jealous and called him heretic etc, and employed someone they could control easier instead.

Perhaps.

It's all speculation really.

He didnt expand the empire, he went out on his own, for his own gain, not the emperors

The.. Emperors gain?

I stated he went to retake (what the Orks had taken) and/or expand. Records on what he did after retaking and fortifying the system is vague or nonexistant.

Also, where is the evidence he did it merely for his own gain?

It says that farsight went fighting ork after ork after ork, and killed tons of them, purged several worlds of greenskins, and then eventually, settled down in a region of the demacles gulf. The area he settled in and fortified was long forbidden by the Tau, and he was acting without guidance of the ethereals because they had been killed. Contact was severed between the empire and farsight and his followers. Since then it has been the notion that he has served his own purposes fighint orks and turned his back on the greater good and the empire
look at the codex, its in there

It's against forum rules to quote fluff..?

As I understood it's only rules.

Curious.

im pretty sure that we cannot directly quote from the codex
not sure about fluff...
well lets find out:
"In the ruins of pre human civilisation, the tau forces engaged an unknown enemy and the ethereal caste leaders of farsights expedition were killed. Undaunted, farsight continued the war agaisnt the orks without the guidance of an ethereal and soon his expedition was well beyond the known reaches of tau space. but farsight refused to return to the tau empire, instead choosing to establish a string of heavily fortified strongholds along the frontier of the damocles gulf. This region has long been forbidden to the tau, and when contanct was severed beteween farsight and the tau homeworlds, it could mean only one thing. but to countenance the notion that forsight has set up his own colonies is the accept that he has turned his back on the empire and is fighting for personal gain rather than for the greater good"

I think that was the planet where he acquired the Dawn Blade and supposedly is under the influence of a Necrontyr god.

I personally don't think he's abandoned the Empire, but is keeping watch for something.

Being under Necron influence is conjecture. There's no evidence to his being controlled by anything. But the Necron or Eldar are popular candidates for the source of his sword.

Okay, so I went in to pick up my ordered farsight pieces, but to my amazement they had casually given them to someone else!!!?!??! gonk scream
So, if I don't get my money back or the pieces I ordered, i'm going to file a complaint against gamesworkshop for faulty sales. stare

Did you let them know about you ordering the pieces?

It was a written order. stare
They even told me that they gave them away, but they never said that they were going to re-order them and they never called me back about it.
So, I don't think I am going to be getting anything back. sweatdrop
