DarkElf27 As to his actualy question, I do belive that it can count as a weapon destroyed. Might ask someone at GW, though, because if it CANT be destroyed, it seems awful beardy... Yeah, that's a pretty crazy rule. I would say that instead of a weapon destroyed result the whirlwind itself just blows up... not like it's useful once the missle launchers gone anyways...

Lt_Brookman Hey guys, I'm having this conversation with a chap in the States about the Whirlwind and he has the idea that the Whirlwind launcher with Castellan missiles cannot be taken out when rolling a "Weapon Destroyed" result when damaging it. Rule book states that weapons from str. 4 and upwards may be selected as weapons that can be taken out. The Castallen missile launcher has no stated strength and AP. The marine guy tells me that when I hit the damn thing with a Weapon Destroyed result, that I can't pick the missile launcher as the destroyed weapon and instead get a Vehicle Immobilized result! I know it sounds stupid and trival, but I need this sorted out as this could *mean* that the Whirlwind could keep on firing until hell freezes over. So is the Castellan Launcher really untouchable or can it be disabled like any other weapon? Unfortunately that is true...but I did get this info a while back from that stupid battle for maccrage rule book, but it is still fourth edition.

he is what they said from my sources Lokust Seems logical to me that you would go off of the mines' STR of 6 in that situation, for determining if you can pop the launcher. However, consider that this can work in the favor of the player attacking the whirlwind too. It means that you get half VP's if you roll a weapon destroyed result which gets swapped to immobilized. It also means the vehicle is easier to destroy, in the sense that there are fewer (none) weapons to blow off before getting immobilized and then destroyed.

Still, it bugs me to no end that they get assed out of this so cheaply. Not many vehicles mounts weapons with a strength lower then 3. This rule was most likely implemented because of the Chimera, which has six hull mounted lasguns (Str. 3).
I'll just give my GW store a ring and wait for replies from other forums.

Morganti I thought the Castellan missile launcher was an alternate form of ammo? So, you could counter argue that the weapon characteristic is still S5 AP5 and would be destroyed. Anyway, IMO this is a form of weaselling in the worst way. I suppose you could let it stand that way, but once he is immobilized, then without a weapon and already immobile, he destorys that much easier. Besides, Immobilized means 50% VPs and non-scoring unit, where weapon destroyed doesn't.

Hmmm... My father has decided to become a Marine player as well. His chapter? The Fists of Ulric. Done in the Empire Middenheim colors from the Fantasy range and made with various Space Wolf parts.
I personally think it will do quite well for a Space Wolf Successor Chapter.
Plus, I'm making a Chapter Master for him based of the Sons of Thor Terminator bloke from the Chapter Master Competition. 3nodding

Sounds cool.
I just have to figure out how to make a cool kickass hammer. I'd probably end carving it out of green stuff.
Another idea that caught my dad's attention was the use of Marines who are the equviliant of the Teutogen Guard. Armed with hammers and bolt pistols. mrgreen

Castellan missiles are listed as STR 6 AP -, ALWAYS on the back armor of a vehicle. We (Me and Cags) use a whirlwind with castellans a lot, So we know.
