He advanced on her, standing so that his breastplate would be in contact with her arm, and he bent forward a bit, bringing his face nearer to her ear. "I don't want to use you," he said, nay, growled. "Whether you're needed or not, I want--"
What? What did he want?

Ever gasped as Ares moved closer to her and growled in her ear. It had been almost two days since he had gotten that close to her or spoken in such a way to her. She had actually forgotten what it did to her.
She had to reach up and hold onto the branch above her to keep her balance. She wanted to say a smart a** comment, but she couldn't think of one. And she just wanted Ares to continue. Well, she did, and she didn't. She was deathly afraid of what he had to say and yet she wanted to know as well. Maybe he'd choose to just ignore what he was saying again.

He punched the trunk of the tree, his arm going across her body, and he breathed in. "I... want you." His voice was low, grating, almost a snarl.

Ever gasped loudly as Ares thrust his arm in front of her and punched the trunk of the tree. When he growled in her ear, she closed her eyes and moved her hand from the tree branch to grasp Ares' arm in front of her.
With her eyes still closed, she whispered very softly. In fact, she wasn't even sure that she said the words outloud.
"In what way?"

He laughed, a low and husky sound. "How don't I?" he asked, cheekily. "It's a shorter list." He moved forward the slightest bit.

Her eyes were still closed. She was afraid that if she opened them, this all would disappear. Ares was still here. He hadn't left because she could no longer give him what she thought he wanted.
She turned and slowly guided her forehead to rest against his forehead. She sighed and spoke softly again.
"I... I don't know what to say."

He chuckled softly, lowly, and pushed her hair back. "You don't have to," he whispered, wishing that her eyes would open. She needed to see the world, to accept it. This veil of ignorance had to go.

She laughed and shook her head slightly.
"But you don't understand. I always have a smart-a** comment available. So, me being speechless is not normal or comfortable for me."

He sighed softly at her words. "It's okay to be speechless," he murmured, not sure why he was being so soft with her. "It happens to everyone."

She smirked. "Yeah, right. Are you admitting that it's even happened to you?"
She took a deep breath and then slowly opened her eyes. The glare of Ares' breast plate hurt her eyes momentarily, and she had to blink rapidly.
Then, she lifted her eyes to finally look into Ares'. Her eyes were back to their normal blue color, no longer red.

He watched her, looking into her eyes for a long moment before responding. "Yes." It was a whisper, but that didn't matter. His eyes burned into hers.

Ever was completely out of her element right now. Ares was being soft with her and his eyes were blazing passionately into hers right now. This wasn't the passion they had the past 2 days. This seemed different. And it scared her.
She reached her hands up and very slowly finally placed them on Ares' forearms, on top of his armor.
"I'm... surprised. I never would have expected you to ever be speechless."

He laughed, soft but strong. "It happens to everyone, as I said." He placed his hands carefully on her waist, eyes searching hers for--he didn't know what. Something. Anything.

Ever loved his low, strong laugh. It even brought a smile to her face.
But the smile fell when she saw Ares searching her face, her eyes. He was looking for something, and she didn't know if she could give it to him. She was scared, and she didn't want to admit she was scared, not to Ares. It would be one of her worst nightmares to do that.
"What... what now?"

He smiled softly, though he didn't seem to be fully in the smile. "I don't know," he replied honestly. "Something dramatic, I think." He grinned cheekily at her.
