May_Rose5 Sheesh, am I the only one here who's been playing the clarinet for.....1.5 years?? Probably because all you people are in High School, and I'm over here in Junior High....I think....I don't know..... I discovered something weird a few weeks ago.....if you wear flavored chap stick and play the clarinet, the reed tasteslike the chap stick after just a few hours/minutes! I was so happy the day my reed was watermelon-flavored 4laugh !
yeah biggrin i noticed that too...though its hard to play with chapstick on...i played for my friends on friday and ew air leaked out because it felt so slippy XD
>_<; i hate it it seems that even though I've improved a jillion on my tone everything seems to be lacking so much and thats all people seem to notice now, my tone, its like my musicality can't even be heard any more. >_<;;
anyways...
I feel sooo bad right now yesterday at the all southern auditions my friend, alex his contra and bass both broke...I don't even know how...but they did, and the reeds too [he seems to always have bad luck during auditions] and I didn't even realize it and as he was putting his clarinets back I said good luck and right infront of me he was doing that, and even my mom told me that something was wrong, i feel so mad and stupid because one thing, he didn't even bother to tell me, and second of all, I could have helped, I was absolutely ready to help in times like this, I mean I had warm water ready just incase my reed broke and my car has a GPS system just incase I need new reeds AND I have a teacher whose willing to help fix things like this and I feel so bad because last year he always took care of me and everything and I couldn't do anything
crying i mean for once me over preparing actually came to use...but I wasn't able to do anything, my mom even knew what was going on and I was way too selfish and just cared about myself at that point...stupid stupid stupid...
sorry for the rant
didn't get the results back yet...I'm a little scared...

Clarinets are the best section... hands down. cool
I'm second chair in our high school's wind ensemble (highest band), It's pretty sweet. I was also co marching section leader.
Is it just me, or do all trumpet sections have a feud with clarinets? The ones at our school hate us, even though they're the cocky show off's >_>

Psh... We all know a solid saxophone section could own a solid clarinet section any day. I mean... Look at em! With their shinny brass and or (but not limeted to) black nickel, silver, and various other colors!
But seriously... I got my a** kick in Honor Band auditions... But hey, I made it on alto sax, who's complaining...

oh me...oh my...O_O I GOT INTO ALL SOUTHERN! FIRST PART CLARINET IN FULL ORCHHH [iono what chair though -__-;; i hope its first ;_; ]
if i remember last year none of ze clari's from my school got into full orch O_O so its just like...wowie...and i'm a middle schooler...so its just...wow...:O;;. Last year I had the most horrible audition ever...i messed up on my scales...and my chromatic was too slow...and my song...ew don't get me started....never ever was it in time last year...ew and I had horrible tone...
and now this year it seems I have a utterly pretty tone that our co conductor said she could listen to forever [O_O] but I still ahve my flaws...rhythm.......DX but still! I'm so happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello to all! Name's Kumo, and I am oficially obsessed with band. XD My band is probably weirder than your's, though... We're obsessed with cowbells ever since the cowbell skit from SNL. In case you haven't seen it, or you don't watch SNL, here's the linky. On our shirts, we put "More Cowbell!" in seven different languages on the back, and a cowbell on the front. (For anyone wondering, the Trombones and Percussion peoples started it all. We have a bit of a "club", for lack of a better term, where we all agree that at least 3/4 of the band has some sort of mental problem.) Cowbells are so annoying, though... >.<

We only have one marching song with cowbells and thats low rider. thank god we dont do that song very often.
btw we had a holiday concert with orch, chior and both bands. half of the people i talked to in the music department agreed with me that none of us were ready to go on stage. the concert itself, we bombed it. completely and utterly horrible.. even the parents were saying how bad it was. i'll say that was the worst concert i had ever done and i still think it was everyones fault for not being ready but most of all i blame my bd and the snow. none of us were ready. the only part of the md that didnt think we bombed was the wind enemble. well some of them. especially a couple of clarinets i know... i dont know if i want to do another concert with this band... they cant even focus and they talk to much in class. they dont listen to the bd and it just is horrible.. id rather be in a more mature band and not one thats going to mess up everytime we're away from the band room and pretty much ruin the bands rep. before the sophomores came this year we were known as the best concert and marching band... as said so by several californians and that was a compliment. after cali has some of the best bands in the country.
