Xel tried very hard to keep from laughing. Well, maybe not as hard as he could've tried, but for a split second he had actually thought of not completely dying in front of the prince.

Wiping at one brown eye, the green-haired man cracked a crooked grin once his series of unchecked laughter was over. "Seeing anyone? Why the hell would a prince want to know that? Just checking to see if he's following daddy's rules? I don't believe so," Xel murmured with a shake of his head, before shrugging.

"If you truly want to know if some rumors floating about are true then just ask the man. He may not answer you but I suppose he's the best one to ask," he added, his grin fading a bit as he pushed his cleaned plate away from him.

"Lovely dinner, really. We should do it more often," he said in a most clearly teasing manner as he slid from his seat. "Now, do you want me to tell my dear Commander about this crush you have or are you going to stifle it? I assumed, you of all people, knew the orders placed on him and all the highest ranking generals when they're promoted. No relations," he explained in an almost condescending voice.

Casting brown eyes towards the door, Xel started for it before adding, "Find yourself a nice princess to have runts with. That's what you're supposed to do, anyway, right?" He didn't wait for Ruehl to answer as he slipped out of the dining hall, boots clipping against the marble floors as he headed towards the hospital wing.

There seemed no recourse the fire prince could take as Xel unleashed a gale of laughter upon him. Ruehl had never felt so completely... foolish his entire life. A blush began to paint his tanned cheeks. When Xel began to question his motives, almost blatantly mocking them, the prince opened his mouth to try to speak a defense.

But what could he say? A hand went up to his temple, holding it, fingers barely threading themselves in the fine crimson bangs. Ruehl's gaze widened in horror only when Xel brought the reality of what he could do with that information to light...

"Xel!" he hissed, dropping his hand to the table. It didn't seem as though the knight cared, or was listening. Within moments, Ruehl had been left with more troubling news regarding something about restrictions on Haar's relationships and an insult about where his attentions were directed in the first place. "Hey!" he called after the knight, nearly stumbling out of his chair in his haste.

"Xel! Come back here!" he called as he followed him through the door in pursuit.

Out in the halls, he spotted the knight quite a distance away. Ruehl didn't care who witnessed his eloquence any longer, he ran down the hall after the knight, reaching an arm out to grab at his elbow. "Don't you ever listen? Even to your own prince? How about this: did it ever occur to you that maybe I don't like princesses? How can you speak to me like that, really?"

[[Guh, I'm so bored. I rewatched most of Tactics today, at least the BOYLOVIN' episodes and such and was inspired to write some Haar crap. I don't know why incredible anime makes me think of Haar, but whatever~ :3

@Sona: Sorry my Xel post took so long. x_x;]]

The knight flinched at the touch, stiffening considerabley as he turned to face the prince. He knew he had stepped over a few boundries, but that was how he did things, right? That was how Xel got business done. Smack someone hard with harsh realit- it hadn't been the first time he'd gotten yelled at for it, and it wouldn't be the last...

Brown eyes drifted towards the walls. "I simply assumed you'd want an heir," he murmured in a less than teasing voice. Dark eyes focusing in on bright greenish-blue, Xel gave the prince his best grin, all flashing teeth and everything, "Do you think I'm stupid? Not only do you stare at the Commander anytime he's in your presence- and I mean you stare him down, but you also just asked if he was available. Of course I realize you don't like princesses, but a relationship with Haar, of all people, is never going to work."

Maybe part of him was jealous.
Since his promotion to general, Shay had been under tight supervision on who he could be seen with, much less who he could actually be with. No one had ever cared so much about his relationship with Ceris- and if only they had locked him up for a year or two...none of this would have happened...

He wouldn't exactly be in love either, but...

Rubbing at the thin scar across his nose, Xel's grin faded a bit, "How did you expect me to react, your highness? Tell you where and when you could meet Haar for a little get-together?"

[[Xel is brutal. :c I still love 'im, though. He's just a b*****d, sort of.]]

He was laughing. He was reallyreally laughing. Laghing so hard the boy was pressing fingers against his lips to stop him. "You're going to rip open all my hard work," he whispered in-between giggles, blue eyes gazing fondly at the soldier as both of them calmed down for the moment.

Shay folded one arm behind his head, breathing in a deep breath as the burn in his gut subsided. "Hah, sorry. I just always thought you were a girl." Red eyes drifted over the boy's figure. He wasn't sure what he had been thinking...up close the kid was definitely male- seen if he did have the girliest colored hair he'd ever seen: pale cerulean blue.

The teen frowned softly with a heavy sigh, "It's okay, I get that sometimes from the blind men." The comment caught the young soldier in a fit of laughter once more, fingers pressed up against tight bandages to relieve the hurt.

The teen stuck out a hand once the soldier's breathing returned to normal, "My name's Kaelin, and from what I've heard, you're Commander Haa-"
The teen was quickly dragged forward as Haar leaned in close, whispering sharply, "Don't use my name unless you want your government to ruin this place."

The blue-eyed teen stared at the older teen in mild shock. He'd never been so close to someone of the fire nation before. He'd never been so close to a real solider before, either... Breathing quickly, Kae flushed to a pale pink color. "Uh- S-sorry, what...should I call you?"

The young man let go of the teen, appearing to be deep in thought before grinning a bit, "Just call me Shay. It's my name, after all."

Kaelin smiled, "Shay it is."

Mumbling under his breath, Haar leaned in close towards the warm pillow. "Just-..." Not exactly aware of his surroundings in sleep, the young man clenched at the fabric of the pillow- the pillow had had gotten increasingly hard and un-pillow-like.

Blinking, Haar stared straight ahead at...at...not-pillow. Was he still dreaming?
PostPosted: Sat Feb 17, 2007 3:43 pm

Alti's brow furrowed slightly in his sleep. He wasn't awake... no, he was much too drained -- too exhasted to be properly awake.... but his sleep was troubled for... some reason. He was dreaming... had been dreaming. Or perhaps he still was because he thought -- in that odd way that dreamers think while asleep -- that... was that one of his mother's plants, wrapping a large tendil around his waist? Except it felt rather like it was harder and less fluid.... So perhaps there was something behind the plant matter....

[[A plant? XD Poor, cute, Alti... Sorry this took so long, I was on the phone.]]

So this not-pillow was...was, of course, something far from a pillow and yet his brain didn't want to register exactly what this all too foreign thing was. He did know for a fact that whatever it was was very warm. Not too warm. The kind of warm that just got stifling hot after a while, like a fire you couldn't, for the life of you, put out.

It was the nice sort.

And, Haar of all people, was very fond of that kind of heat-- being the fire native he was. He wasn't sure if it was the same for others of his lineage, or if the same could be said for people of different heritages, but he felt drawn to such temperatures. Something inside of him yearned to just lean into whatever was giving off such a pleasant heat- which was very contradictory to his very nature, but he had been cold and hurt and confused all day and this feeling was the only thing that seemed nice to him.

It wasn't a pillow, something else...He would deal with the consequences later. He distinctly remembered thinking that very thought before almost snuggling into the teen, his hand ghosting up further along Alti's back before sagging as he drifted off to a much calmer sleep.

This... couldn't be right. The plant... thing... whatever it was... it seemed... warm. Hot, even. And not at all plantlike.... A small frown puckered the dark-haired teen's lips, sending his forehead into a wave of wrinkles as his nose squenched up slightly with the motion. As was usual, when the teen was uncertain or uncomfortable - even in his sleep - his posture grew slack. His back curled forward instinctively, in affect shrinking him down slightly and bringing him slightly closer to whatever warmth it was -- which did not feel like a plant.....

[[I think part of Haar would die if Alti told him he thought he was a plant. XD]]

Haar's subconscious was racing wildly around and around, stimulated by all sorts of feelings and smells- god, the smells. The young soldier wasn't used to smelling a hint of clean rain and some sort of peppermint-type scent so close to him...

It was nice and very different from the usual murky, moldy smell he had became quite used to over the years by camping out for months at a time. Warm and pepperminty- it was almost like the scents that wafted through the air continually during the holiday season. Novias was the most commonly practiced holiday in the fire nation, and it revolved all around the light that was within each and every one of the fire natives. Granted, that very light could be highly dangerous, but...fire casted light. Fire poured heat.

And as Haar nuzzled in closer somewhere inside he realized this thing was no pillow...nor any inaminate object for that matter but something closer to his own species-- a human, perhaps.
PostPosted: Sat Feb 17, 2007 7:39 pm

"Nngh..." Alti made a slight sound as he turned ever so slightly to the side, body shifting to more face the matress, which had become warm after absorbing Haar's and his own body heat. It wasn't a plant.... No... but... he couldn't think what else it was... other than warm.... Perhaps it was some sort of embodyment of warmth.... like a seel or something... or a walrus. Those would probably be pretty warm, he thought slowly, his mind a slur of trying to decide just what that... non-plant thing was... as well as the half-dream he was experiencing, which seemed to have something to do an antelope and his mother wearing botanic life forms.

A human.
A human?

There had been no human in the same bed with him besides Kae... or...when Peyton was younger and they had to share the same tent and...he would have these bad dreams so-

A human??

Haar's brain just didn't want to even think about the possibility of the warmth being created by a human. It was just too much for the young, and much too exhausted, commander to take. It was probably just some...sweet-smelling dog, even though dogs didn't tend to have such a nice smell to them.

Nor did cats, and this thing was much larger than a cat.
And why would there be a dog in Alti's bed anyway?

Red eyes snapped open. Cursing softly, the young man drew in a quick breath as he realized just where he was and who he was with...and exactly what sort of position they were in- which was not a very uncomfortable one, Haar would admit to that, unfortunately. The way he was curled ever so slightly in the general direction of the boy, one arm very carefully slung acrossed his midsection.

Swallowing several time, Haar closed his eyes. He just wanted to go back to sleep and forget that the nicest feeling in the world had been caused by Alti.
PostPosted: Sat Feb 17, 2007 8:05 pm

((That's cold right thar. O: ))

Alti's hand tightened slightly into balls... and then relaxed, at the same time his shoulders tensing... and then lowering. "-tlope..." he mumbled slowly, brow furrowed. His dark bangs were an almost painful contrast to his so effortlessly pale skin... but in his sleep, he was warm... and his cheeks were a light pink.

The antelope was running now... and his mother had vanished, thank goodness because he couldn't relax with her around.... But there was a slightly hoarse muttering.... and.... Wait, where had the antelope--?

It was gone, as was the dream. After several moments his subconscious had given up trying to figure out just what was so warm... and had decided to rest its energies until it was fully recovered and could think better on the subject.

[[Xel is brutal. :c I still love 'im, though. He's just a b*****d, sort of.]]

[[o_O;; Ouch. Lol. It's his way. I still like 'im. I think.]]Ruehl opened his mouth, determined to protest against the accusations Xel pressed against him. He didn't stare! He didn't really ask it that way!

Or... in effect...

Did he?

He had. It was true. And that horrible grin on the other's face irked the fire prince so much, he wanted nothing more than to wipe it off. Even so, no matter how Ruehl looked at the situation-- he'd been beaten. But the fiery-haired youth didn't release the other's sleeve.

Grimacing slightly, Ruehl stared back into dark brown pools. "You sound exactly like Malachai, you know that? And no, Xel! I don't expect that-- I just--" he broke off, breaking eye contact to glance down the passage and make sure no one was coming, "Don't tell him. It's just... I don't understand why in my own kingdom, I have to fall for the one person... the only person I am told I could not have. I can't even touch him. And the second I get close enough to talking-- you have to interrupt for a sparring match."

Releasing Xel's sleeve, Ruehl now let his gaze drift down and he shook his head. "Listen, I'm sorry," he murmured, waving a hand dismissively between them. "I should not have involved you. If I care for someone who is so clearly out of my league, why not just let the boundaries set by the law define my relationship, Xel? Maybe you're right." Ruehl smiled ruefully and extended a hand to shake the knight's. "In any case, I'll bid you a good night. Thank you for your dinner company. Give my best to Ceris. And Peyton-- if you see the boy."

Pressing a hand to his forehead, Haar shifted a bit, turning onto his back as he stared upwards at the ceiling. It wasn't that Alti was a bad person, or anything, it just pained the commander to know that being in close proximity to other human beings could be all too nice and pleasing. Of course, the soldier was continually close to trainees and the like all day long if that's where he was scheduled for the day, but not...close like this sort- there was a very big difference, and that difference was all the more emphasized right then as Haar was debating whether or not he should get up.

--------

Xel turned away for a moment, drumming fingers against his pant leg before quickly shifting back towards the prince. "Look, the law...isn't a good one, I can tell you that. You do know why it was put in place to begin with, yes? A few generations back a princess had clearly fallen for one her generals, a general who was not of noble descent. As I'm sure you're aware the relationship was not accepted by the ruling king at that time and the law has been in place ever since, not to mention that fact it's been more practiced as of late because our soldiers aren't coming from all royal or noble bloodlines anymore," he murmured with a bit of a shrug.

"It's a sad thing, I think...and I know Haar doesn't gree with it but he can't exactly waltz up to your father and ask him to take away the decree- I don't think that would go over well."

The knight sighed, "Oh well, there's nothing really anyone can do at this point," he added with a light frown as he gave the prince a wave, "Thank you for the pie, you highness," he murmurd with bit of a teasing grin as he turned back around in search of the hospital wing.

Alti's form seemed to go slack into the matress - finally and totally relaxed. It was quite the contrast from his usual, awake self, which always made such an effort to remain tensed and suspicious. He wasn't mumbling or muttering anymore in his sleep... nor was he dreaming. His mind was just as lax as his body, at that moment.

Red eyes stared intently at the door, then flickered towards the window, and then back once more towards the entrance of the room. He knew it was unlikely that anyone would question his whereabouts, but since he had dismissed himself with a guest to go get Peyton...then someone had to realize he should've been at the castle by then (as long as Peyton and the others had arrived safely, that is).

Part of him liked staying here, in the storms nation, where life was a constant source of spontanuity- and yet the other parts of him knew very well that he couldn't bask in the pleasures of that lifestyle for long because he was needed elsewhere... He was needed back home. Part of him wanted to stay, but the rational half of him urged him to flee (or at least try and notify the castle and tell them of his absence).

Sliding from bed with the most careful of motions, Haar gazed at the door before sighing out a heavy breath. He had been forced into bed by his own lack of strength hours earlier (or however long it had been, the soldier couldn't quite tell), but now he was feeling much better. He simply hoped, as he stood in the doorway, that he wouldn't relapse again. He didn't need another round of nearly passing out.

The brown haired male turned back for a moment with a mixed expression before heading down the hallway in search of- well, he wasn't too sure.
