"Not perfect, but it's better," he murmured, clearly tired as he draped a hand across Alti's hip with the faintest of smiles. "You're not as bad at healing as you think you are," he added softly, closing his eyes. He'd just...rest his eyes a bit.

[[Rest his eyes, hah! He's dead to the world right about now. XD]]

((Waitaminute. Is Alti on his side or back or... what? I'm kinda confuzzled. xD;;; ))

Alti nodded slowly. He would have to... to try again... but later. His eyes were most deffinately growing heavier and heavier, he noted absently. A small smile curled upwards on his lips as his eyes finally fluttured shut and his breathing became slower... steadier.

[[I don't know. o3o Haar is on his side. He just yanked Alti down...I don't know how he landed. x3]]

Harsh breaths grew calm as the young man slipped into a deeper sleep. Hopefully, a dreamless sleep. A good sleep. He hadn't had ones of those on a regular basis for a long time. Fingers clenching around the fabric of the boy's shirt, Haar mumbled something under his breath, incoherent, before drifting off again, his expression troubled as he slept.

((Nnn... if he was on his knees, then he's probably now on his side....

Ohyah, and sorry for all my little typos and errors and everything right now. I'm on my dad's laptop and the keys are very frustrating. Especially the shift key. D:

Annnnd... I dunno what to post for Alti. D;

[[Peyton sort of got pwned so he's with him. :3]]

Brown eyes narrowed lightly. Did this prince think he was smart? Top secret information (of which he had little of, Haar was a man that kept many things to himself) was hard to buy, especially from him. Disregarding his previous flirting with his father's group of henchmen, Xel was relatively loyal to people he chose as friends.

Then agin, it was strawberry pie, and he highly doubted that anything the little prince asked would be too secretive.

"I do think I'm ready for dessert," he murmured with a slight grin, setting his fork down without a sound.
[[Ohhhohomygawd. If Ruehl only knew... he would go nuts xD]]

Ruehl's gaze snapped back to those dark eyes, a smile now playing agreeably on his lips. Perhaps Xel wouldn't be so terribly disagreeable to him after all. He nodded genially and motioned over a servant. The servant left with the pie order.

When a delightful serving of the dessert was set before the two men, the prince didn't hesitate any longer.

"Does he have any family that you know of? Do you know where he grew up?" The questions were eager and interested. The prince waited, taking a bite of the pie, yet entirely jaded by its taste.

He was so frustrated with Shay... why was the other so distant all the time? Why... couldn't he just take those subtle hints Ruehl dropped? He clearly favored the commander, didn't he? Seeking his company like that after a mission! Malachai had stepped on his foot or kicked him under the table whenever he stared to much at the other in formal settings. The prince had only been gone for a year or so traveling and yet upon his return so much had changed for Haar.

.... The heartwrenching truth was that he didn't know Shay. Commander.

"What's his favorite color?" he added, off-topic. As long as he was searching for information, he could try little trivial bits of information as well. That wouldn't arouse anymore suspicion, right?

[[He'd attack poor Alti. XD Haar would still be clueless and probably defend him. 'What the hell, you've gone insane!']]

Brown eyes narrowed lightly at the questions. "His little sister works as a messenger and seamstress around this castle, I thought you'd know that, my prince," he murmured with a sly grin before continuing in a teasing manner. "I'm not sure exactly what the village was called, it's been long since pushed out because of encroaching cities, but it was to the south of the fire nation, near Dezgard."

Where was his pie? He wanted pie (and Ceris, but that was a thought for another time). The pie had been brought out before the prince started rambling off at the mouth. It was just sitting there. In all its strawberry goodness.

The knight blinked several times. "Favorite color? Hell if I know, you truly think that man would talk about his favorite color during a sparring match, or less likely when he's been slashed to bits?!" The young man pulled one of the dessert plates forward, coughing lightly, "I'm not sure. He wears a lot of red and black, varying shades of the two, but I've never heard him say specifically what color he liked. He's always been fond of Ceris's hair though, and Peyton's eyes. So quite possibly purple or blue, but don't quote me."

-----

Cyrus leaned back in his chair, grey-blue eyes flickering towards his office door, making sure it was closed before he continued. "I need your help with a few things, my friend~ But first, I must take certain measures to make sure no one listens in on this conversation," he explained before the torches in the room flickered and died. One snap a tongue of fire appeared above the rangers hand. "Never trust fire issued by the king, it hears things you don't want known."

Calix shot a skeptical look at the other before shrugging, pulling over a chair in order to hear the general more clearly.

"I'm planning a bit of a rebellion, I suppose that's what you could call it. A rebellion against the strict rules placed upon generals and higher class soldiers," he whispered, watching the archer's bright amythest gaze widen in interest. "You'll help me, won't you? At the festival?

"In your room?" The archer suggested, black hair falling into his eyes as he leaned forward with a smirk. "In the hall?

Cyrus laughed, letting the flame disappear. "I knew I could count on you..."

"Miiiiidaaaaaaaaaaaaas," came the call. "Midas!!" The older teen looked up, his expression irritable as his bright green eyes met his brother's blue ones. Helios was smiling his usual grin -- which was to say that he appeared perfectly happy with abosolutely everything and that seeing his brother was just a little perk in his perfect day.

"...What?" he replied, very tempted to just ignore his twin.

"The festival is almost here. Just the end of today. And then tomorrow. And then it's THE FESTIVAL!!" Helios grinned from ear to ear and then sat down on the (very large) window sill next to his brother. "Aren't you excited?"

Ruehl felt a little slighted. He hadn't known about this sister of Haar's, and Xel's comment didn't help the feeling. Glad that the knight had moved on, he made a mental note of the information he'd been told. Dezgard... that far south? He'd certainly traveled far.

The prince watched Xel's reaction toward the appetizing dessert and listened to his remarks. He was rather surprised by the other's table mannerisms-- swearing? It appeared the slightly older man wasn't as smoothly accustomed to the ways of formal dining. However, it intrigued him. What about this knight made Haar choose him for a friend? And, indeed that was his next question.

"What... is your relationship to the commander? How long have you known him?" he asked in a slightly quieter tone, "Is he well-liked?"
PostPosted: Sun Jan 28, 2007 1:11 pm

Xel frowned slightly. Why did the prince want to know about his 'relationship' with Haar? "Hn, I suppose...I could call him one of my good friends. I don't have many, mind you, and he's definitely one of them," he explained while scratching at a bit of scruff he'd missed when shaving. He tended to do that quite a bit...

The knight counted off on his fingers, "About four and half years. I met 'im when I first joined the fire army and that was a little over four years ago." Blinking several times at the next question, Xel's expression shifted to one that of seemingly deep thought. "I've never actually trained under him, so I don't know how his personal troops feel about him, but his apprentice is...quite ...fond of him. As long as I've known him he's been a good person, a good friend... Hell, if I like him then I guess others do too."

Ruehl nodded, moving the pie around on his plate a bit. It didn't surprise him Xel didn't have many friends... look what he tried to do to the 'good' ones he had! Take their fingers off! Perhaps he might understand that mentality with time.

Or not.

When Xel mentioned about Haar's apprentice, the prince's bright eyes darted from his plate to the knight's face. He recognized the reference. That boy seemed to never leave Haar's side, it was almost cute. Except it stopped Ruehl from approaching him more frequently. "Yes, right. I'm sure he has..."

He started, "How long has he had Peyton?"

Xel took a forkful of pie, drumming his fingers against the table before answering, "They were together before I knew Haar. I know Peyton came to this kingdom when he was ten and soon after found Haar... So I guess close to six years? Peyton's almost sixteen so I guess it's somewhere around five or six years," he murmured before taking another bite.

"Why all the questions about the Commander, anyway? Would you like to know a bit about your generals, as well?" He asked in-between bites, brown eyes narrowed lightly as they held still on Ruehl.

Rosaline followed the other, his expression showing a deffinate curiosity. Just what did the prince have in mind? He certainly... He didn't know what he hoped for. He didn't want a situation (like Sylvia seemed to insist there would be) where he would be forced to reveal himself.... but, at the same time, he hoped almost desperately for some sort of excuse to continue... whatever it was that happened around the other - talking, walking... simple enough things to begin with.

He glanced down at the flower and, almost immidiately, his eyes were fixed on the small, silky fragrence.

A rose... and a pink one, at that. How... fitting. A nervous blush filled the roses' cheeks and he glanced back up at the other, a small smile on his lips. "Yes, I do like flowers," he murmured slowly. His gaze returned, inevitably, to the rose and he only just barely kept himself from wincing.

The other had no idea of just how painful of a reminder he had given Rosaline.

"Thank you..."
The blonde prince smiled, a spark lighting up his bright eyes. "I'm glad," he returned, noting how that blush seemed to... have an almost entrancing effect on him; it was such an endearing feature of his new-found friend. The fact that Rosaline seemed to enjoy the flower emboldened him to ask the question that was really on his mind.

"Miss Rosaline, I know... you don't really know me very well yet, but I was wondering if you'd permit me to escort you to the Winter Festival in the Kingdom of Light. It's this family commitment I have every year, and I'd rather share your company this time than be forced to court and dance with a dozen flight women of the Kingdom of Light," he proposed in a quiet manner. When his silver eyes glanced about, he added with a small grin, "I know my father would probably choke on wine if he knew I wanted to avoid dancing with noble women, but... I don't know. There's something different about you. And besides, it would be funny to see him surprised. He never shows any emotion these days." His eyes fell back on the dressmaker's face, searching.

"Will you come? I promise to show you a good time."

((Sona, your av right now is suu cute! <33))

...The Winter Festival? In the Kingdom of Light? It was surely too good to be true. Rosaline had been to the festival a few scant times... but only as a vender, selling his services as a seamstress. It had not been quite as enjoyable then as it probably would have been had he been there to enjoy himself.

And the Kingdom of Light... He'd never visited it before but, next to the Kingdom of Earth, it just had to be the most spectacular place... right? All... all sunshine and brightness and - oh gosh, this was all so exciting.

So exciting, in fact, that his expression was nearly transparent in the way it gave away his thoughts. Rosaline was usually a very concealed... "person." But this was too much.

A bright smile on his lips, he hesitated only a scant moment before mumbling, his face blushed into bright pink hues, "I... I would love to. A-and thank you."

The festival. This could... truly prove to be something wonderful. For the moment, all thoughts of telling the other the truth of his gender (his aparent humanity was not an option to discuss with anyone other than Jillian, who had already found out) were forgotten.

((Ohyah and... I'm sick. D: Bleeeeeeeeeh.))

Ruehl had stopped eating. Haar was like... a father figure to a kid already? On what scale had Ruehl himself accomplished something of that nature?! He had a phoenix that lived in the Uvyek Gardens. But the bird was hardly comparable to the trust you build between humans. It was no wonder Peyton never left Haar's side.

The question that Ruehl had been harboring inside began to make his chest ache. He wondered if he'd ever have the opportunity to ask it where it wouldn't look suspicious- where he wouldn't be vulnerable. And his mind centered around the single inquiry he had, the prince barely digested that Xel had even begun to ask about his motives for the discussion in the first place.

That's when it happened. Word vomit. It could have come out in so many better variations-- Ruehl had planned his subtlety for weeks around these types of subjects. But the diplomatic, well-mannered prince's vocabulary could only seem to find the four words:

"Is he seeing someone?"

Furthermore, the usually calm prince's reaction wasn't so smooth. Peridot eyes widened in shock and immediately averted themselves to the plate, the floor... anywhere but Xel. A hand over Ruehl's mouth let escape mutterings such as, "That's not... meant.. can't believe.. sn't happening.."

Ruehl tried to clear his throat and start over, but his head was inclined over his untouched pie plate. "I m-meant... simply, well to put it in other terms... I wondered if he'd ever become romantically attached in the past. As in not present. As in ... Xel, would you like some more pie? Really, I can have Jup make plenty more." An unusually trembling hand ran through crimson locks.
