"Mmhm, that's a thing," Toby agreed when he rose to the surface again. "Race? Sure. Wait. Did you bring your pelt?"
"That would be cheating," Dari said while he re-pressurized.

Maia shook her head. "No," She said. She was still cautious about being seen. And as Arizona was landlocked with no seals it was probably safer not to have someone spot one in a freshwater lake. "I've gotten better at swimming like this," She said, demonstrating with a back float. "See?"

"Oh, very nice," Toby replied, looking Maia over approvingly. She didn't have the best form, but it was good enough. "I'll race you to the buoy and back?

"Okay, Dari want to race with us?" she invited. She moved beside Toby and prepared to race. "If you like, I could bring my pelt next time." As long as she had Dari and Toby with her, maybe it'd be okay. "But I'd always win."

Dari didn't think he had much of a chance of winning without morphing his shape. He came over nonetheless and readied himself beside the others.
"That's all up to you," Toby said, "It could be risky, it could be not. No more risky than Dari being out here as himself. ANDGO." It was all one word as he started off toward the buoy.

Maia nodded in understanding; and she had no doubt if it did become an issue, Toby would be able to fix it. She swam after him, trying to catch up. "Hey look! A Nessie!" she pointed, hoping to distract the guys from the goal.

Toby could be heard laughing briefly as he stroked. Dari was well behind but did not stop. Toby beat Maia to the buoy and Maia beat Dari. At least there were only three of them. Everyone placed! He was sure that at some point Maia would become a better swimmer than him.

Once Maia reached the shore, she declared that everyone had won. She didn't get out of the water, instead she waited for Dari. She wanted to see how they'd plot to corner Toby and splash him.

Dari joined them in a few moments, smiling.
"I lose," he said, but Toby shook his head.
"Maia says we all win."
"Oh. And you're going to let her?"
"Sure. I won first place, she won second, and you won third."
Dari chuckled. "Nice."

"Yup, we all win," Maia told Dari, with a smile. "You would've won if you'd morphed a little. And I would've won if I had my pelt. Let's all cheat next time."
"Go away Toby, Dari and I have to plan to beat you," Maia said, pointing in another direction, indicating Toby should go that way. "But don't go far. It won't take long." She reached for Dari's hand. "I think if you jump in again like you did, we'll win," she informed the alien.

Toby laughed. "That's your master plan?! Warning me?!" He shook his head and started a backstroke. "I'll just be over here planning my defense."
Dari laughed and looked to Maia. She was rather childlike at times. He wasn't sure if it was her innocence or her nature. "I could do that."

"Good, and while you're doing that, I'll attack from in the water. He'll never see it coming." Plan decided, Maia swam over to Toby. "You can come back now," she said. She offered him her hand. "Did you plan a good defense?"

"Alright," Dari agreed, and he ducked underwater and headed for the shore. He would see it coming, but the both of them liked to see Maia happy.
"A flawless one," Toby said, and immediately swept his hand through the water to create an enormous wave over Maia's head.

Toby had caught Maia off guard, and she sputtered. She sent a splash his way. "We've got a better one," she insisted, trying to mimic his movements to create a wave of that size. Hers were always smaller. She used both arms to create a wave and sent his way.

Maia's splashing was a good distraction. Toby seemed to have forgotten about Dari who now ran from the sandy beach and leaped into the water, briefly depressurizing. All of the fluid within him went into a central core in his gut, everything else remained transparent and wiggly, and there was an enormous wave that went up over the back of Toby's head. He was totally caught my surprise. "GAUGHK."
