For that combo, I'd go with the 360. You can get a better gaming PC for much cheaper than that, though...all you have to do is wait a bit. MAJOR price drops. Hell, I'll build one for you...well, not build it. Just find the parts.

How do you figure? Thats with the tower I want as well (Lightscribe DVD drive, multiple front USB 2.0 slots, as well as memory card readers) The card I want is about 250...and it will prolly go on sale soon.

Yeah, prolly around Christmas when the new windows launches I can rake everything in for about 1k...right?

By then, both AMD and Intel, the two CPU manufacturers, are going to have a price war. AMD's best are gonna pretty much be half-price, and Intel's new Core architecture is going to be released.

I can get you a better machine than that for $1000, you just gotta be willing to put/find someone to put the stuff together.

EDIT: As for the GPU, don't bother. You can get a much better card for the same price. At least 3x the performance...well, theoretical performance. Real-world boost will be phenomenal too.

Oh, I prolly should have mentioned that the comp itself is only like 1,200 with everything installed and whatnot (Graphics Card, New Powersource, RAM sticks). The monitor costs pretty much the same as the base system >.<

Oh, and for the record, thought that I should put that I DESPISE Intel with a passion for gaming PCs. Just something about them has never run as smoothly as an AMD processor for me. Dunno with everything the same, save the processor (which were comparable speeds) the AMD does better every time.

I suppose I should also say that I hate ATI GPUs...no real reason...just don't trust them on principal.

Yeah, just looked on ebay, 512 mb cards are going for about 200...so...yeah...

Well, I cleaned out Newegg, and I got ya something that'll help ya a lil' more for $1400. I didn't include USB ports and stuff...I can get you everything if you like. And, with price drops, it'll go down further...possibly even to the ~$1000 mark.

May I have a link to the monitor in question?

And finally...Intel has AMD beat this time. It does better in virtually everything...I'm not forcing you to get a C2D PC, I'm recommending it, though. It's just the best thing around unless you're into overclocking. If that's the case, then you may as well wait for AMD's die shrink.

EDIT: ATI has better GPU's this time, except for Power and Heat. I gave you the best for the money, which happens to be an Nvidia until a few months when the 256 MB X1900XT is released...

Pretty sure this was the monitor, we checked it all out in a best buy last week, at which point we thought it was kinda overpriced, and we likely figured right based on what your saying.

As for a dual core...I have heard they ruin gaming, as the CPUs tend to fight over which is doing what and both generally end up trying to run the game, thus causing personal lag.

The only other actually important thing to me is the actual tower...its just an odd preference thing I have. The tower is similar to what I have been working with for about 5 years...and I don't really wanna change it.

Aie, missed a lot.

Ianex: I personally would love that computer so much more than a 360. But...I'm the kinda guy who doesn't think Halo is insanely good. And I'm also somewhat anti-Xbox.

You also don't need 2 GB of ram. 1 GB is pretty good as it is. X.x

jdr: Ah, good reading, isn't it?

Ianex: Also, listen to GK. I don't know that much about computers. Er, good ones, anyways.

Monitors, monitors...I know Samsung just released a bunch. Or announced. One of them. Anyway, I'm gonna say shop around on them. Only thing I know about them is that Dell and Apple make the best, Samsung and Viewsonic come in close, and Sony's unbelievably overpriced. Dell's truly are superb, though. Look on their website.

As for the dual-core thingy, that's been fixed with an AMD hotfix and a Microsoft patch, and probably a few other things. Even so, I don't believe setting affinity to one core is so hard. Plus it'll help on upcoming games.

And as for the tower, those are the other things I don't know much about. I've got an HP myself, and I don't like it...sure, it looks nice and all, but the ventilation is poor...my video card goes up to 100 degrees Celsius during load sometimes...if you're sure it has good ventilation, then go for it by all means.

It actually makes a lot of difference now. 2 gigs in games like Battlefield make things much smoother...they also help out in Quake, Prey, etc. Plus, Microsoft "recommends" it for Vista, meaning that you'll need it due to the memory hog it'll be.

Its not that I am a BIG pro-X-box person, its that I am a "$&*@ spending $600 on one console (PS3...) I would rather own a good normal console (360) and a really cool looking innovative one (Wii...which is only gonna be like $250, which is cheap enough for me to buy even if its just to play Red Steel and SSB:B)

Hmm.

My would've-been opponent Pm'ed me about our match;

Oblivionic

I have internet back this thursday.... I understand if you'll take the default win. stare

I wonder if the little starey face is supposed to make me feel like a heel if I say no? xd

Ah, sheesh, I'm WAY behind...On my beating quota.

/me stabs self for that lame inclusion of a HL2 line.

I'm just getting Wii, I think. Likely just for Red Steel and SSB:B.

I'm still asking myself questions as to how some things will work on the Wii with their wireless gyroscopic-whatever thing. (I'm blanking on what they called it >>)

Like, if you're in a sword fight, and someone BLOCKS. What happens?

And why does your giant RPG feel the same as a pistol..? Heck, you're hold in the same way, too.

Don't think SSB:B will be all interactive-y and stuff. I think it's been mentioned that they'll just be using the good-ol controls for it. But I don't really care.

Go Snake!

Kk, sweet, was unaware that the dual core thing had been fixed. As for ventilation, yeah, it seems like it will be fine. The guy that was showing it to me has sold me pretty much every comp we have owned since moving to Florida and he says thats the tower he uses, with essentially the same specs I was asking for, save an ATI card and a bit faster AMD processor and he says he doesn't get much hotter than 96 tops.

Doesn't seem too bad to me. And if necessary I am willing to shell out for better cooling.

The thing I almost forgot to mention though...SPORE...thats why there is 2 gb of RAM...cause Spore is supposedly going to be a RAM hog...and if any of you have watched the demonstrations...Spore is worth the pricetag on this new PC alone.
