oh, I just happened to be in a particularly disagreeable mood...

And also, it seems to make sense. For example, in books, movies, etc. isn't it always more powerful when the character doesn't cry? When you can tell they want to, but they don't allow themselves to do so? I think it certainly says quite a bit more about an individual - the times they manage to hold themselves together as opposed to falling apart. Same goes for laughter. Or anything, really...the things we hold back despite really, really wanting to let them out say a lot.
