Athena can deal.

The best way to deal with that kind of stuff is to go back to basics. If you don't have fundamentals, no matter how much power you have, you can't use it fully.

I agree for the most part.

but there are bounds of reason, reason that I feel your opponent has crossed.

*shrugs*

I'm sure you'll do fine, once your judge call is in. You have been at this a long time.

Right. After all, I managed to submit even the great Ryugi Kazamaru. Payback for that elbow drop he did in HoH 08.

It's somewhere in the Leviathan Stadium thread in Barton. Could also be in my post history.

I got to get going.

I mean come on guys, it's my first tournament.

Apparently I had really low standards and a lot of faith in the majority if not all of you and that was my mistake. But I believe this thing can fly without all the super strict bullshit laid out in other tournament rubrics.

Regardless, I am making my mistakes, and by the time the next round starts, I'll have learned from some of them. Other than this all I can tell anyone is fight or leave...

Never put faith in people to make their own interpretations without the expectation that every interpretation will be different and thus, a potential source for problems. Tournaments don't use strict rubrics to stifle players or to maintain a hyperspecific methodology; they're strict to make sure that the room for interpretation is minimal so as to avoid two participants figuratively walking into their fight with entirely different ideas of what they should do and how they ought to go about it.

It's not because people are stupid or malicious; everyone will interpret every rubric their own way. But by being as thorough as you can be in your explanations, you minimize the difference between each interpretation because there's less to interpret in the first place. The idea isn't to get everyone thinking exactly the same, it's just to get them on the same page.

Everyone makes mistakes. That's just inevitable when you're running a roleplaying event of any sort. Freeform roleplaying is pretty ******** abstract, so a lot of what goes into running a tournament is a mixture of trying to minimize the potential for mistakes, while learning to play off-the-cuff for when you do inevitably make mistakes.

The worst thing you can ever do is operate under the pretense that you can't or won't make a mistake.

Honestly, you're right. In the end, all I can do is post and trudge through it in my own style.

I'll go post then.

Make sure you have something from the Rocky soundtrack as well.

Gotta fight to the top. Gotta climb every mounta~in.

I would not be surprised with how Hollywood is when they make the decision to remake Rocky. Dunno just a funny thought, Rocky vs The North Korean. They will somehow go further, making it MMA base.

What exactly is the issue that brought upon the judge call?

An issue regarding the absolute lethality of myself and my opponent using a "lightsaber". A sword which can essentially bypass any physical matter save for living stuff. A "Brilliant Energy" sword from D&D. Technically, his didn't just bypass the metal, it cut through metal, flesh and energy. Point is, we were both swinging auto-hits.

And yes, I understand a laser sword isn't always an auto-hit, but when you've got him leaving perfect afterimages before attacks, and me rapid firing my paladin buffs, we're damn near always going to slicing each other's limbs off. I think this is a weapon which makes the fight less fun for it being there. I feel as though a weapon with that much absolute killing potential is like asking for a power creep and an unsatisfying conclusion.

Essentially I think it's unfair.

But I'm also fine with it.

I asked that if I had to fight a character who can block with magic spells while simultaneously attacking with a sword nothing can block, I'd just like my Lay on Hands back please.

A beam katana... *sigh*

Why can't we just focus on actual technique? To truly outfight the opponent, maneuvering to gain the upper hand? Don't let your weapons and powers do all the fighting for you!
