My betta died because the water was too cold. It was a scary site, watching it all squirmy. >.<

You can't play with them. You can only feed and clean them out. They might be aesthetically pleasing but they're not fun in any way. And I can't see how you can get emotionally attached to a fish. Companionship with a fish? Bah! Might as well just have a pet rock.
