But Ponydash was beyond listening to anyone. Even as the last of his attack faded away, the dragon charged forward, targeting not Ponydash, but Miyuki, its jaws opening wide and revealing cozens of razor sharp teeth, each one easily as long as Miyuki's fingers.

At the same time, the rumbling behind them grew louder, and in the light of Ponydash's flame body a second dragon's head appeared: very similar to the first, but three times larger.

There weren't many choices really when one had a large dragon come towards you. Miyuki hit the ground, and her hand reached for her scroll as she shouted for Ai to use Confusion.

She had looked back once she hit the ground and it was only then did she spot the other dragon, a much larger dragon. Ai moved to send a wave of disorienting psychic power at the dragon.

"Run now!"

It wasn't a question if they could out run a really pissed off dragon, since really they had no choice and she was sure it was pretty pissed off. She also didn't want to think what its relation was to the other bigger dragon.

The attack hit the smaller dragon's open mouth, and the dragon seemed to choke on it, flailing about with its body as thunderous gasps burst from its throat. Andarien and Aranxia took off running, trying to get past it, and Eon shot off a quick shadow ball at the larger dragon. It was less than a distraction: the attack bounced off the dragon's protective scales and had absolutely no effect.

The larger dragon began to move more quickly as well, chasing after the prey that had started to flee.

She didn't even bothered to grab up her staff again, Miyuki was too busy wanting to make sure there was enough distance between them and those dragons.

"Ai! Eon! Let's go!"

It felt, surreal in a lot of ways. Like it wasn't actually happening even though she knew it was. Her body was moving the motions but she wasn't even thinking. The scroll she had reached for was tossed behind her, the clasp undone allowing it to fall to the ground and unfurl itself.

From it burst chains of inky black runes that seemed to leap off the paper and wrapped around the larger dragon. Miyuki grimaced as she hurried after the others because she knew that was not going to hold.

The chain of runes had been an inspiration from the Winters' security system and spurred into creation from the attack that Miyuki had seen in her childhood. Miyuki, hated the idea of creating anything that could kill anyone, so making runes that could bind a person seemed like the better idea.

However, that was the problem, she had created them with people in mind, and it had all been theory. She didn't know for how long it could hold a person, how strong it was, or if it could hold more than one person. There had never been a chance to test it, and it was never her intention to test it on a dragon.

The dragon tore right through the seal that Miyuki had tossed at it, its sheer size and strength greater than Miyuki's amateur magic. One of the ink chains caught one of the dragon's forefeet, and the dragon stumbled - but its other three legs kept it going, and it was only slowed by a few seconds.

Meanwhile the other dragon had recovered from the attack it had taken, and now it whirled to look at the group, wary of another similar attack. It was a smart creature: this time it kept its mouth closed, which protected one of its only vulnerable areas.

Ponydash scooped Andarien up onto its back and took off running, leaving only Eon's pulsating rings to light the way out for Aranxia and Miyuki. Aranxia was running as fast as her legs would take her, her lungs already searing with exertion and panic.

She so wanted to turn fox at the moment, but she couldn't not yet. She was worried about Eon, Ai and Aranxia.

"Keep looking forward!" she shouted to them.

It was hard to follow her own advice, because she wanted to look back. Especially since she needed to rely attacks to Ai, and Ai had to pause in order to make those attacks.

"Ai! Flash!"

All the while she kept thinking, look ahead, look ahead, look ahead. It was scary though to not be able to see Ai pause and face them. However, she knew that the jewel on Ai's forehead would give off a sudden and bright light and the last thing she or anyone needed to do was look back to be caught up in that light.

By the time the girls, Eon and Ai made it out of the cave, Ponydash had already made it half a mile away with Andarien.

"Keep going," Aranxia gasped at Miyuki, running for the edge of the small rock plateau that led to the cave. She could hear the dragons chasing after them, though the dragons could not move at full speed in the confines of the cave.

There was no need to tell her twice. Ai had let off a flash of bright light at the dragons before dashing out after her owner.

By this point there was nothing to do but run. In the mist of running (and realizing they would need to get down from the cave quickly), Miyuki finally turned into her fox form. Without her skirts, her coat and being confined to two legs it allowed to run just a bit quicker (and move easier).

Out in the sunlight, the dragons were fully revealed: outside of the confines of the cave, they spread their wings and took to the air for their chase.

Before they could catch the girls, there was a shriek from above: a roc, whose rider had spotted the fleeing children and their pursuers. It dove at the larger of the dragons, talons extended, and a second roc, too far away to join in the battle, soared back towards the city.

On the ground, Aranxia was aware of none of this but the cry of the roc - and she had no intention of slowing down to turn and look at what was going on.

Miyuki kept close to Aranxia, she didn't want to lose her cousin. The only reason why she wasn't freaking out about Andarien was because she knew Ponydash probably had not stopped running and was a lot further than they were.

She too heard the roc, and really hoped it was a Wing Rider.

The large dragon turned at just the last second and claws met claws midair: the beginnings of a battle.

The smaller dragon took advantage of the distraction and dove for Aranxia, the bigger of the remaining targets. Aranxia sensed the attack coming and dove to the side, and the dragon's claws missed her by only a few short feet. She scrambled to her feet and took off running again, this time back towards the forest that they'd left behind, hoping to find some shelter in the trees.

Miyuki had scrambled out of the way and was relieved when Aranixa managed to dodge it. She could only bark at Ai in this form instead of talk. So it was difficult to give orders.

Not that Miyuki had any idea of what to do at this point. All they could do was run and nothing Ai could do at the moment would do any good against a dragon that size.

She hurried into the forest, taking cover in the underbrush.

The trees were not perfect for cover, but they did help enough that the dragon was slowed down in its hunt for prey. The battle between the roc and the larger dragon was still going on in the sky, and after a few minutes the second roc returned. It slammed into the large dragon, throwing both it and the first roc to the ground, and when it was close enough to the ground a figure jumped from its back and hit the ground running.

It was Aerin.

Fire in her eyes, blade in hand, she ran towards the smaller dragon with as much speed as she could muster, desperation giving her strength she had not felt in a long time.

Being so close to the ground, Miyuki could feel the earth shake when the large beasts hit the ground. Now she wished she knew of a way to hide both her and Aranixa.

Ai was sticking close as possible to Miyuki, even though she could no longer understand what Miyuki was saying in the form her owner was in.

Aerin couldn't see where the girls were, but the dragon was impossible to miss.

"Hey!" she shouted to get its attention.

The dragon didn't seem to hear her at first, or maybe it was just ignoring her; but after she shouted a few more times, it turned to look at her. Aerin was nearly as tall as the dragon, and too serious a threat for it to ignore, and so it turned and bared its teeth to her.

Aerin slowed down marginally. Now that the dragon was distracted away from the girls, she could be more careful in her approach. She held her blade out in front of her, approaching the dragon cautiously, waiting to see what its first move would be.

The dragon could see that she didn't have any of those small creatures with her, and it opened its mouth. A bright glow appeared in the back of its throat and it spouted fire at Aerin, who didn't have time to shield herself.
