He tilted his head in that way he did when he was absorbing things that his father was telling him...and well when it was about a place he had never been before, it was that much more fun to listen to now wasn't it? Very much so. "And since we live here it's not easy, right?" The whole surface underdark concept wasn't really too much of a concern for him, because to him it was here and there, not above and below and two completely different worlds.

Though the word winter was new for him, got a squint...he hadn't really been studied too much on surface things and that included seasons. He had heard them mentioned...something in correlation with something called a council where his grandparents were. But other than that, it wasn't too understood...he'd find out sooner or later though.

A smile at sword lessons, frown at bath...because well sometimes he just didn't like to take them and other times he was all for them. But mommy usually gave those to him and she wasn't here...so that was a blah point right now. Though a giggle on mention of his studies and he pointed to his letter. "Mommy's keeping up with my reading." But a nod he'd do them, and an odd look but nod at the magic, after all, daddy was right. "Alright...can I do it with you?" Because well...mommy usually stayed with him when he did his studies, and he was more or less glued to Malik right now...unless Malik had a mood swing in the negative direction and walked away from him.

Learning things from Daddy was always exciting and it didn't take Zykariel long to finish his sandwich either. One quick shove and it was in and then it just took him a good ten minutes to chew it down small enough to swallow. He gave his father a grin at the eye roll he knew was coming and flounced out of his seat. Thus training ensued.

He was still worried about the getting caught unawares and not fighting like a man. The opposite of that was fighting like a girl. Of course Mommy was a girl and she'd made Arthur cry but he had a feeling that he would never do that to any other male. But he'd taken a swing at his father, got a little too zealous and gotten knocked on his bottom for his trouble. Blinking up at him for a moment, he shook his head his face wavering between tears and a smile. Finally he grinned his crooked smile, "You gotta teach me how to do that!"

He grinned at his son and tapped his temple. "You can't just swing, you gotta think too, just like when using weapons. If you don't someone gets past your guard and then bad things are likely to ensue...like you getting knocked down." And worse things like the beating of your life, but he wasn't going to say that to the boy. Thus he turned his attention back to his son and reached down, picking him up. "But I think that's enough today, you've done a lot already and we don't need you getting overly worn out."

They were always telling him that. Mind and weaponry or fighting technique. He nodded solemnly and then giggled, "Silly me I always forget." He clung to his father refusing to be put down and started playing with his braid. There was a minor moment of pouting thrown in since they weren't going to be learning anything else and then he chose to move onto other things. "So you and Mommy are still playing the game right? And she still doesn't know? She seemed happy. But Mr. Malik says all sparkly stuff makes women happy..." A blink at his father. "Is that true Daddy?"

"Yes, since we live here it's not easy. and yes, you can do your studies with me. why don't we go downstairs and you can work on your swordplay. we're going to do something new today so you can learn a bit more about improvisation."

Malik got himself up, and picked up his son and carried him downstairs to the arena, setting him down and getting him in his armor and his weapon, before getting his own on.

"Okay. you try to strike me, and I'll try to get you. no hard swings. light and easy. I want you to react to what I do, and see if you can defend and attack with something that doesn't just sit still."

Leaf nodded, pausing a moment to glare at the sand under her feet. Ahead of them, the sand stretched so far as to amke them believe there was no end, like they were trapped in an endless....you get the idea. It was a disquieting feeling.

Over the next little dune...and they almost stepped off the edge of a very deep looking crevace. Fin swung his arms around a few times before getting his balance, and the three of them stood at the edge peering down.

"Right....do we cross, or do we go down?" (The following question would be 'how?')

He got a smile from his son that would probably remind him of a certain look that Piper got from time to time. It was just that smile that said everything in the world was right for this breif moment and couldn't be happier. "Okay daddy." Thus letting his father pick him up and take him back downstairs, though he did grab his letter and fold it carefully, tucked it down his shirt.

Patiently he waited as he was put back in armor, and given his weapon back. Malikhai gave a nod of understanding and then seemed to contemplate the much larger and mobile opponent that he was faced with. Of course there was the need to impress, seeing as it was daddy. So then a moment more of contemplation, and onto jumping in full and ready.

He gave a grin as his son non verbally expressed how he didn't want to be away from him right now. Truthfully, he reveled in that fact. After all, Zykariel meant the world to him and it wouldn't do well if his son didn't want anything to do with him. "Yes, silly you." That excuse would fly for now, but not later. Elves simply didn't forget unless severe head trauma or magic was involved he was sure.

And then the child went into asking questions to settle his fears. "Yes we're still playing, she still doesn't know, and yes she's happy about new jewelry every woman is. But she's also happy for the game, and for having you." Ruffling the boy's hair.

Ugh...there was a horrible heaviness to the air. This was unpleasant...what was that feeling. A few trial and error tests and he got his answer. No magic. A wicked smirk graced his features...how positively lovely. After all, he was never one too much for magic...relying on the physical and more naturally made assailants and such. Well then, that was a load off of his shoulders. A gentle tug at his gloves before he brushed his hair from his eyes a moment. Pulling out the map on his person he gave it a glance and mentally plotted his location. Oh good...Twilight Lands wasn't far off...maybe a day or three to reach.

Piper starred at the abyss for a moment, and then looked across it to the stretch of sand that continued on...then back to the abyss, back and forth a few times. Getting across would be no problem, Serino's hooves were still off the ground. "Well...either cross and continued through the barren sand waste of nothingness," at least there wasn't any sun to constantly shine on them and make it worse, "or we can go down into deep dark nothingness. I think the more important issue for the decision is to think about the giant crack in the ground. Firstly, it's in the middle of nothingness...which is naturally suspicious. Two, how hold is it...if it was caused by the recent quake, it may be nothing more than a land scar. Three....anything odd about it." Of course she could always ask Serino to go investigate, but she really didn't want to use too much of his energy. "So, let's investigate."

Zykariel swiveled his head and glanced around for a moment before dropping the braid and rubbing at his eyes. Fighting was hard work. "You're silly too, Daddy. I think I got it from you." A nod of his head and he listened, watching his father to make sure everything he was being told was in fact true. Mommy was happy about the game which meant she was happy loving Daddy! That was a very good thing. But he tilted his head and poked him in the shoulder. "You're happy too right, Daddy? 'Bout all of it?"

Though another pause and he rubbed his eyes again, hiding a yawn. "Can we go read a story or are you too busy?"

"Oh yes, I'm sure that's where you get it from." Shaking his head lightly, though he noted the tired motions of the child, trying to hide yawns and such. Perfectly reasonable that he was so worn out...training was a lot for a toddler to handle. A look to the spot where the boy had poked. "Yes, I'ver very happy about all of it. Now then, let's go read that story okay?" He knew the boy wouldn't last too much longer anyway, might as well keep him entertained till then. Off with them to thier current room then.

He was curled up in his father's lap, head lolling back against his shoulder as he listened to Daddy read. Of course he had to giggle a few times at the voices and subsequent tickling moments that always accompanied Daddy reading to him. His voice was lulling Zykariel though and he rubbed at his eyes again and let them drift closed before he snapped them back open and looked at the book only to let them fall again. He fought it valiantly but it was just too much for his little self. Reverie claimed him in the middle of the evil knight escaping with the princess.

Zahara finished in the stables, certain their baby was going to pop out any day now. That would be a sight to behold, now wouldn't it? She headed into the house and up to the room stopping for a moment when she walked in on a rather adorable picture. Zykariel was going too, she could see it. She stepped in quietly and kicked off her shoes then joined the boys on the bed, slipping in next to Sevilin and just listening.

Leaf looked down, Fin whistled in her ear, imitating a long drop with his hand. "Indeed."

She took a sniff of the air, couldn't smell anything but more sand. She stood, looked around, checked the map. "By all means, we should at least be seeing the temple by now."

Fin threw some sand off of the cliff, watched it fall. "Or maybe the temple dropped." He held up a ahnd. "I vote going down."

Malik didn't go easy. he moved at the same pace his son did, and moved as he would in a real fight. he used his sword to parry, deflect, push his son's blade.

"remember, a sword is not just the blade."

said right after he used the hilt to push his son back some. though when he found an opening, he'd poke his son lightly, just enough to let him know he found a spot open. nothing to injure or even bruise. not to say malik didn't let his son see opening's and try to exploit them. he also moved to defend when his son tried, more to show his son by example how to defend if someone did try to get through an opening.

He merely kept ready even as Zahara came in and plopped on the bed with them, he knew from experience that it was best to just keep reading until he was sure that Zykariel was in reverie. Three pages later, he closed the book and set it aside, shifting the boy in his lap a moment, giving a pat at his hair before turning a look to Zahara. "Got done what you needed I take it. He'll probably be down for the rest of the night."

Malik may of not gone easy, but that didn't discourage the boy, actually it only made him work a bit harder and he did put forth his best effort, taking advantage of the holes in his father's defense as well as using his size to his advantage to duck under swings and such. Even if he got knocked down from a return hit or a poke he just rolled himself back to his feet and went right back at it. Rather competent little swordsman.

Though soon enough he was getting tired, but didn't stop. Quite obvious that he was getting worn though, what with his movements slowing and a little sloppy, getting knocked down more and leaving more openings...but he still tried his best to keep going.

"You're right...would be kind of hard to miss anyway what with well...we're in a desert, and we're elves..." Would be hard to miss something like a temple of any sorts in this waste. Another look down in the abyss. "Okay, well Serino can certinally ride us down, but we're in trouble if he runs out of energy. We have ropes and such on us, I suggest sectional repeling. Everyone comfortable with that?"

She listened to his voice and watched her son fight his body's impulses and lose. It was rather sweet to watch him fall asleep in his father's lap, his face soft and innocent, relaxed in repose. Nodding silently, she pushed off the bed and stood next to Sevilin before leaning down and lifting the child out of Sevilin's lap. His head rested on her shoulder and she arranged him gently on her hip before stepping back and making her way to the cot on the other side of the room. Bending down, she set him down carefully then untied his boots and set them quietly down beside the cot before tucking him under his blankets and smoothing his hair. She caught sight of Rawr dangling on the bed and scooped the dragon plush up settling him in his rightful spot under the child's arm. Reflexively he tightened his grip and shifted slightly then lay still. Her lips lifted in a small smile and then she turned and made her way rather purposefully back over to the bed, kicking off her own boots and crawling back to her spot by Sevilin's side. No words needed to be exchanged between them, the look in her eyes was enough. Silently she leaned in and cupped his face, kissing him slow and deep, the thread of desires already thrumming within her. Amethyst met ruby and time stood still as both gems glittered and glowed with the inner fire. She requested. He accepted. Together they rolled, the rhythm built, and they danced.

Malik relented when his son showed signs of tiring, and put his hand up in teh stop gesture.

"that's enough. your doing very well, and you have a bath to get yet. after your bath, if your up for it, we'll start your other studies. if not, you'll start on them first thing tomorrow."

sheathing his blade on his hip and picking his son up. hey he knew he was clingy right now and didn't exactly blame him. but they made their way to one of the bathrooms near his room to get his son a bath.
