I watched my family burn as my country, government, and life fell apart all around me at age of eight. In my 20s an elaborate plan was made to coax me into the KGB; a plan that has haunted me to this very day. I don't feel that you've experienced anything "worse" then me, just different. And I don't think I can judge what has happened to you two in relation to my own life. Attempting to do so is insensitive and futile- and as a fellow canidate running for office; yes, I feel the charge is relevant.
There are equally, and I mean infinitely, just as many dimensions the individual can experience and endure. Not that I believe events themselves define people, but rather how people react, grow, and what they take form events.
